Forum Post: Guy Fawkes Masks?

Is there a specific reason the Guy Fawkes masks have suddenly started showing up in full swing? I get it to an extent, the general idea, but I feel like the quantity of people wearing them has become more of a fad than a statement. If anyone would explain otherwise that would be wonderful (and helpful with others bring this same question to me xD). Thanks! <3
I know Guy Fawkes and I understand the usage of his mask in V for Vendetta. I also understand wanting to be anonymous due to employers and cops and what not. I guess I was just curious as to why we specifically seem to have chosen Guy Fawkes/V as the face to represent our anonymity, especially since both Guy and V were known for using Violence to make their point, when our movement is specifically anti-violence.
WE as group have not chosen the Fawkes mask, individuals have chosen to use the mask to represent themselves.
Also those that associate themselves with the Hacktivist group Anonymous use it because that is a symbol of that group.
Apologies for the wording, I didn't mean to imply that the group as a whole had chosen the masks, just that we are seeing more and more of them as the days roll on. As for Hacktivist, again understandable. Honestly I think a lot of people are using them because they don't understand what they stand for, and I suppose that is where most of my frustration comes from.
Symbolism. It's better than wearing a sweatshirt with a large adidas symbol on it or a hat representing a company.
Its smart! Lots of asshole employers and cops out here and they have the tech. to target every face they can identify. When dealing with fascists its a smart move! Go Guy Fawkes!!
They are based on the Epic Fail Guy meme (look it up) which is taken from V for Vendetta Which was taken from Guy Fawkes.
They were used to show how we are anonymous, as well as to protect our identity during Chanology. They also state "You are Epic Fail"
It shows solidarity, and protects our identity, and shows that we are part of a larger group.

We are experiencing the power of being anonimus. The mask is used by them aswell.
because he was a big kick ass dude who didn't take shit. And how cool would it be if everyone wore them like in the movie. plus the video cameras can't see who you are. plus if everyone is wearing the same thing it is a show of solidarity.
