The term “Government Cleansing” sounds so much more civilized than “Government Overthrow”

It's just an enema.

Why should we have to choose between "cleansing" and "overthrow"?

An "overthrow" would involve violence - a very stupid idea which is rightly opposed by OWS (see their mission statement).

As for a "cleansing", considering how dysfunctional and corrupt-to-the-core our political system has become... I very much doubt that any amount of "cleansing" would be sufficient. Have you ever tried cleaning a rotten apple?

Our 3rd President, Thomas Jefferson, recommended "a revolution every twenty years", in the sense of a GENERAL OVERHAUL in order to adapt to changing times. Contrary to an overthrow, an overhaul does not involve violence and should be done methodically and democratically.

Here is the situation: Things have gotten so bad that, according to a recent poll, only 9% of Americans still have faith in Congress. The upcoming elections would be a USELESS and MEANINGLESS exercise, so why not cancel them or at least postpone them?

Here is my proposal : Next spring or summer, let's hold a NATION-WIDE REFERENDUM on a dozen yes-or-no questions, the first of which would be : Do you agree to postpone the elections scheduled for 2012 until an independent Commission has come up with a project to overhaul our present political system?

Other questions could involve reversing "Citizens United", getting money out of politics, etc., etc.

It is probably quicker and more efficient to elect our own slate of candidates - and the easiest way of doing that is to work within the preexisting networks of party organization.

I know that sounds like capitulation to corruption - but I do not think it need be. If we look at the tea party and use that as a template, I think there is much we can learn, and there are ways to maximize results with minimum expenditure of resources.

I keep using terms like purge and zendog's reeducation campaign to refer to processes that may take place once we are firmly in control . . . .

such language and advocacy makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, and no doubt makes whole networks of nimrods nervous with apprehension . . . .

Thats very doubtful given the amount of time.

that is a distinct possibility - one that raises questions regarding timing of the rise of this movement - not that it matters. What matters is here we are, what can we do with the time that we have?

Ok dude CHILL! Just heard the term used on one of the Live Stream videos and thought it was funny and worth repeating they are kind of synonymous. I was thinking like when cleansing was used with ethnic! Not really to clean but to do away with! I couldn't agree with you more the whole election is a waste of time. Bet the turnout numbers will be the worst in history. You got Obama or the Ringling Brothers!

Oh boy were in deep shit!

I'm cool, bro, you're the one who needs to CHILL... You are. after all, the one who brought up the concept of "overthrow". Why use it at all??? It's UNTHINKABLE in the American context and OWS has NEVER used that kind of language - only the T R O L L S who infest this forum.

As for the idea of canceling or postponing the election, would you be cool with that?

Yes postponing, like I said, AGREE! And I still think Overthrow and Cleansing are synonymous! Overthrow Overthrow Overthrow Overthrow it's just a word....... Look it up, that's all it means is to take over, take back, or replace, there is no violent component to the word. So why get all soggy in the britches? Why would OWS be so allergic to it, that's exactly what they are trying to do right!
