I have grandchildren who live in Texas, asshole! The oldest is seven. Do they deserve your bigotry?

[-] 0 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

my bigotry is against the gun crazies & the nra who dont care if we have more of this

[-] 0 points by agkaiser (2516) from Fredericksburg, TX 11 years ago

And you paint all of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona with that brush. Your grasp of the sociology of the Southwest is as ignorant as your geography. You're attacking people, not ideas or even a dominant class that threatens us all. The greed of the rich causes far more harm than the gun nuts, How many millions of lifetimes are lost due do life shortening inability to afford medical care, for the benefit of ruling class parasites who refuse to pay their fair share of the taxes. Wake up! Your on the wrong path?

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

They deserve a life outside of Texass? Dinosaurs on the dinner table - education?

[-] 1 points by agkaiser (2516) from Fredericksburg, TX 11 years ago

Texas has Austin and the hill country that are not like the stereotype. Arizona has Tucson and the island mountain ranges in the SE corner that are a progressive stronghold.

My daughter teaches university courses online and homeschools her three children. They are building a sustainable community with like minded friends on some of the most beautiful land in America. It lacks mountains so I'll stay in Arizona as long as I can care for myself.

To me the quality of the Earth where I live has always been more important than the idiots who got there first. Now who is that Minnesota Representative with her head so far up her ass? And why are you defending bensdad? Does he have a child named ben and how would he like to have someone wish violence on him?

I agree with Gandalf. Many who are dead deserve life. Until you can give them what they deserve, don't be too quick to meet out death in the name of justice.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Bachmann yeah it seems to be surgically implanted. Defend Bensdad? Does he need defending? If the kids are home schooled - thank god for that. Hope they are also out of the major drought area as well.

[-] 1 points by agkaiser (2516) from Fredericksburg, TX 11 years ago

There's no defense for the bigotry he's displayed in beginning this thread and the one in which he placed Albequerque in Arizona. His geographical ignorance is equally appalling.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

3 students shot in a gun fight?

Perhaps there is a small misunderstanding?

[-] 1 points by agkaiser (2516) from Fredericksburg, TX 11 years ago

are you being deliberately obtuse?

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

3 students shot in a gun fight? that was the bigotry in the post? Really - curious.

[-] 2 points by agkaiser (2516) from Fredericksburg, TX 11 years ago

the title says arm more Texans. the implication is they'll kill one another. Why does this have to be spelled out for you? You're wrong! Admit it.

I think it more a comment on the nra and the irrational fear of being disarmed - then it is anything else.

[-] 2 points by bigjoe (-117) 11 years ago

I swear DK, it seems like most of your posts are directed at me personally. My (our) fear of being disarmed is rational. People really are trying to take our guns.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Paranoid Much? Silly question - you being all hot and bothered by some stupid semi-automatic weapons regulations to ban high capacity clips/magazines and some semi-auto weapons.

[-] 1 points by bigjoe (-117) 11 years ago

Well, your right may not be important to you, but my rights are important to me. Good night.

Just so you don't worry, I may not be here tomorrow. It's supposed to be a pretty day, and I may take a ride on my Harley.

My three daughters live in Texas, my two granddaughters live in Texas. We prefer to live where we can be armed and defend ourselves from the gangs and drug dealers. Agkaiser is right. Austin is probably as liberal as San Francisco, unfortunately. (I’ve lived in both SF and Austin).

We are a peace loving family. My daughters don’t even believe in spanking. But if you attempt to hurt the girls you could get shot. That seem fair to me.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

But if you attempt to hurt the girls you could get shot. That seem fair to me.

That would seem fair to everyone. Doncha think?

littletoe is so protective - don'cha think? What a guy.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Remember this?

I don't know of anyone who sat on the sidelines and said---he shouldn't have done that. So, I think there is a point where you gotta say-----duh.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

I have no sympathy for a dead rapist - take em out of society one way or another. sorry if that offends anyone. littletoe though is more concerned about having plenty of weapons then he is about anything else though. Leastways that is what his gun rants are all about - besides being a forum distraction.

[-] 0 points by bigjoe (-117) 11 years ago

So cynical. My gun rights are important, but my family is everything. You can count on that.

[-] -1 points by bigjoe (-117) 11 years ago

Well thank you kindly M'am. I was starting to think people here didn't believe in self defense.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I just had a cousin that shot a man in his front yard after he came after his daughter. He told him several times to get off the property. The guy didn't listen and just kept coming. I think it's been about a year ago and was in AZ.

The issue has never been about believing or not believing in self defense.

[-] -2 points by bigjoe (-117) 11 years ago

The only time I’ve ever shot anyone was in Viet Nam, and that was with a howitzer, shelling targets miles away.

With all my posts about guns I don’t consider myself a gun nut. I do own several guns, including an AR and an AK, but really more interested in antique revolvers. I gave my hunting guns to my son-in-laws years ago.

My interest is in gun rights. I believe any law abiding person should be able to own any weapon they want. I’m fascinated by all this anti-gun talk. It’s a new realm for me. I never dreamed people would be so upset about people owning guns. It just seem illogical, just jaw dropping startling to me. I still don’t understand it.

[-] -1 points by Shayneh (-482) 11 years ago

I got you beat - I was on a ship and used our 8" to lob shells 32 miles inland - My gun was bigger then yours -

But we did get nailed by one of our own aircraft -

As far as firearms go - I say "solve the youth violence problem" and gun ownership won't be a problem. We have a "violent young generation" that doesn't know how to deal with problems without having to resort to violence to take care of it.

No "problem solving" skills leads to "violent criminal firearms crime".

Now not all are like this - just the ones that live in the "larger cities" - that's where all the crime takes place but they want to put "more gun ownership restrictions" on everyone because of the "mindless few".

[-] -2 points by bigjoe (-117) 11 years ago

Personally I think they should bring back the draft. A couple of years military duty would probably solve a lot of our problems.

[-] 0 points by Shayneh (-482) 11 years ago

There are too many "wimpy" people who are part of the younger generation who don't have any "balls". They have turned them over to thier girlfirends - especially those who live in "big cities".

[-] 1 points by ProblemSolver (79) 11 years ago

Texas Republicans Call For More Guns In Schools Following Shooting At Lone Star College

By Igor Volsky on Jan 22, 2013 at 8:20 pm

On Tuesday afternoon, the nation experienced its 49th school shooting since the Columbine massacre in 1999, when an altercation between two individuals set off at least five gunshots at Lone Star College in north Houston, Texas, injuring both parties and a nearby janitor caught in the crossfire. The college and the surrounding schools went into lockdown as police secured the area, chasing one of the suspects involved in the incident into a wooded area behind the school. Both men suffered gun shot wounds and are now in custody.

Texas is one of 49 states with a concealed carry law, permitting licensed individuals to carry firearms within the state, and lawmakers have introduced legislation that would allow college students and staff with concealed weapon permits to carry firearms on school grounds. Firearms are currently prohibited at Lone Star.

Now, top Republican lawmakers — including Gov. Rick Perry and Rep. Tim Poe — are using Tuesday’s incident to call for more weapons on campus. KTRK’s Ted Oberg has the report:

OBERG: Governor Perry said this afternoon his thoughts and prayers are with all the victims, but that anyone licensed and who has training on how to carry a weapon should be able to carry that weapon anywhere within the state and [that he would] indeed review the bill that’s been filed quickly. …. We talked to Ted Poe from the north Houston area, who said students today were defenseless on that campus.

POE: It brings to focus the fact that many schools and universities and students have — are defenseless at the schools and places of higher education and this seems to show that.

Dear ............................:

[ Y.O.U.R...I.N.T.R.O...H.E.R.E ]

While some people may want to confiscate guns, I don’t.
Here is a much more feasible approach.
It will not solve all gun problems, but it will
reduce the number of guns
and that will reduce the number of dangerous people who have access to guns -
and isn't THAT our real goal?

My proposal - for a NATIONAL gun law for all guns & owners:
My four points are SIMPLY based on seeing a logical parallel between cars & guns.

Please consider advocating these four steps below to help America with our 11,000+ gun disasters:

1►
all gun owners must be licensed & tested with all guns they own and pass a written test.

If you own a motor cycle, a dump truck, and a car - you are tested in each.
Require a written gun test - to guarantee the owner's understanding of gun laws thus
being forced to know the law - via the test – also means the police know who you are - and you may be less likely to commit a crime or be careless storing your guns

2►
every year, you must prove that you have gun liability insurance &
be background checked and prove that your gun is properly locked when not used.

Insurance should be at least as high as car insurance [ I would like at least $1,000,000 ]
You must prove your car insurance.
Require an annual back ground check ( with fee ) to verify your suitability to own guns.
Every gun must be locked in a gun case or have a trigger lock.

3►
as the owner of a gun, you are legally responsible for what is done with it.

You are required to report if your gun is missing within 48 hours,
The owner will be much less likely to leave a gun accessible to a family member or thief.

4►
every gun must be registered and tested & a sample fired bullet stored by the police

Knowing that your gun & its bullets are so easily traced will make you think before using it.

additionally -

Gun fees [ licenses fees & registration fees & fines ] should be
high enough to create a very substantial gun buy-back program

Penalties must be very high in money & jail time -
especially after the first offense

No citizens ( except dealers & collectors ) need more than a small number of guns

Gun fees should be higher for more guns & for bigger guns.

The nra will fight against this –
but will be balanced by the insurance companies fighting for it

But the nra may be in favor of this when the gun companies understand that gun owners
can get paid to turn in their old gun and will be able to buy a new gun -
with an INTEGRATED lock .

If we legalize drugs, we will clear out jail cells to fill with gun law breakers and
free up police "time" for real crime investigation

We WILL get higher compliance and lower opposition if we use high fees & buyback.

Take a position of reducing guns, like assault weapons such as semi-automatic rifles -

rather than punishing a gun nut who spent $10,000 on an armory.

LBJ proposed a gun plan similar to the above 4 point plan

============================================================

Some real 2011 / 2012 gun statistics:

Americans own almost half of all civilian owned guns in the world.
Per 100,000: America: 88,880 guns owned ; 2.97 homicides Per 100,000
Per 100,000: England.…: 6,200 guns owned ; 0.07 homicides Per 100,000
Per 100,000: Austrailia: 15,000 guns owned ; 0.14 homicides Per 100,000
Per 100,000: Canada…: 30,800 guns owned ; 0.51 homicides Per 100,000
Per 100,000: France….: 31,000 guns owned ; 0.06 homicides Per 100,000
Per 100,000: Japan……..: 1,000 guns owned ; 0.08 homicides Per 100,000
Per 100,000: Israel……..: 7,300 guns owned ; 0.90 homicides Per 100,000

http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/crime-stats/crime-statistics/period-ending-march-2012/rft-annual-trend-and-demographic-tables-2011-12.xls
The above link is to England police statistics - see table D19

Is the nra & its trolls claiming that we will fail, where England & Australia succeeded in reducing gun deaths substantially by legislation?

Statistics clearly prove that the number of guns adds to the risk of homicides.

More complex is the effect of gun laws and restrictions.

When Australia had a massacre in 1996 when 35 people were killed, gun laws were substantially strengthened and a major buy-back was instituted.
There has not been an incident in Australia since then.
Of course, they did not have the benefit of the nra.

In 2011, there were 11,000+ gun homicides in America
In 2011, there were 35 gun deaths in England

For 2011, the average Murder Rate in Death Penalty States was 4.7,
while the average Murder Rate of States without the Death Penalty was 3.1

For 2011, the murder rates were highest in red state regions:
Per 100,000: South 5.5 Midwest 4.5 West 4.2 Northeast 3.9

VERY IMPORTANT:
The 1994 gun "ban" did NOT ban assault weapons.
It banned the MANUFACTURE of assault weapons.

Scalia - yes that Scalia - has ruled the AR15s are NOT “protected” by Article 2
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said that there are "undoubtedly" limits to a person's right to bear arms under the Second Amendment, but that future court cases will have to decide where to draw the line. That link could be between you and an bushmaster.
During an appearance on "Fox News Sunday," Scalia was asked whether lawmakers have the right to ban high-capacity gun magazines without violating a person's constitutional right to bear arms. "We'll see," Scalia said, suggesting that future court cases will determine what limitations on modern-day weapons are permissible.
"Some limitations undoubtedly are permissible because there were some that were acknowledged at the time" the Constitution was written, Scalia said. He cited a practice from that era known as "frighting," where people "carried around a really horrible weapon just to scare people. That was, I believe, a misdemeanor."
"So yes, there are some limitations that can be imposed," Scalia said. "What they are will depend on what the society understood were reasonable limitations at the time."
The conservative justice notably authored the Supreme Court's 2008 opinion in District of Columbia v. Heller, which ruled that the Second Amendment protects a person's right to bear arms. The court ruled that "the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited."
Scalia pointed out that that the Second Amendment "obviously" doesn't apply to weapons that can't be hand-carried, and modern-day weapons like "hand-held rocket launchers that can bring down airplanes" weren't factored in at the time of the writing of the Constitution.
"My starting point and probably my ending point will be what limitations are within the understood limitations that the society had at the time," he said. "They had some limitations on the nature of arms that could be borne. So we'll see what those limitations are as applied to modern weapons." Ultimately, Scalia said, any new gun restrictions will have to be weighed "very carefully"

We should all agree that modern arms has made the freedom to bear arms obsolete. We should also agree that the computer has made freedom of the press obsolete.Etc,etc,

"Crossfire"

Day by day, night after night

Blinded by the neon light

Hurry here, hustling there

No one's got the time to spare

Money's tight, nothing free

Won't somebody come and rescue me

I am stranded, caught in the crossfire

Stranded, caught in the crossfire

Tooth for tooth, eye for an eye

Sell your soul just to bop on by

Beggin' for a dollar, stealin' a dime

Come on can't you see that I'm

Stranded, caught in the crossfire

I am stranded, caught in the crossfire

I need some, kind of kindness

Some kind of sympathy, oh no

(Lead) Save the strong, lose the weak

Never turning the other cheek

Trust nobody, don't be no fool

Whatever happened to the golden rule

Yeah, the problem's not law abiding gun owners.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Really?

Really?

REALLY???

[-] -1 points by Shayneh (-482) 11 years ago

How many "law abiding citizens" do you know who go out and kill someone? Lets see your stats on that.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

What happened there, Shayneh? Did you forget the numerous threads that you started on how many people were actually defending themselves?

Don't ask stupid questions.

[-] -2 points by Shayneh (-482) 11 years ago

It's not a stupid question - you can't respond because you know as well as I "law abiding citizens" don't comitt crimes using firearms - criminals do.

So focus on the criminal mind and lets see if you can solve that problem. If you can, then gun ownership won't be a problem because only "law abiding citizens" will own firearms.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Everyone is law abiding until they aren't. So, how about you get over it and start actually addressing the issues instead of playing right wing shill.

[-] 0 points by Shayneh (-482) 11 years ago

I have adressed the issue time and time again - our "violent young society" - that's where the problem is. Just today another shooting - and who was involved - it wasn't a 60 year old -

It just so happened to be a couple of "young mild manered individuals" who had a "disagreement" and didn''t know how to hell to deal with solving problems just like the rest of the younger generation so a gun was used.

You can be sure that the firearms used in this crime wasn't obtained "legally" and you can be certain this individual knows nothing about "gun safety".

So tell me was this individual a "law abiding citizen" who decided to pull a gun and shoot someone or was it a young individual who couldn't cope and decided it was easier to shoot someone then thy to work the problem out.

Just like all the rest of the school shootings - See a pattern there?

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I have repeatedly addressed the issues. You simply have a lack of comprehension.

[-] 1 points by Shayneh (-482) 11 years ago

Compassion has nothing to do with it when you have people who would rather use a "firearm" to solve a problem then use rational thinking.

The younger generation in this country has a "hugh problem" when it comes to being able to deal with problems. Have you ever looked at the program "Wrold's dumbest" - just about everyone on there is either part of the X, Y or melimimum generation - and it's all about violence.

[-] 0 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Oh, lawd have mercy................

comprehension.

Now, go back and start over.

[-] 0 points by Shayneh (-482) 11 years ago

Sorry but it's all about "compassion" If there was compassion then we wouldn't be having this discussion would we.

You are in denial when you think that more "gun control laws" will solve the "ills of society", especially within the younger generation.

.

[-] 0 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Um...........no, it really is about comprehension.

[-] -2 points by Shayneh (-482) 11 years ago

Alright if you want to foucs on "comprehension" then I will say this about it.

From what I see there is very' "little" comprehension when it comes to the vast majority of the younger generation "grasping" and understanding what it takes to be successful.

If you look at who was at Obamas Inagural - it was 99% younger people -

Hitler said in one of his speeches - give me the youth of society and I can conquer the country. Well Obama has divided this country by doing that very thing.

Todays youth is bitter because they have been taught to be so. When they talk about the have and have nots they draw a bitter line.

What they don't understand is that the people whom they are talking or referring to are "Americans" regardless of how rich they are.

They look at them as "the enemy" and have been brainwashed in believing that - that is why this country is so divided.

That is why there is so much violence withing the younger generation -

They have been taught "not to compromise" but to do what they have been taught to do - take vengence on someone who has more then they do.

This kind of thinking follows a person through life and as a result they live a "miserable life". And this is what we are seeing.

We are experienceing a generation and society that has been taught to be "violent towards others"

I see it in how ceretain people on this respond when disagreeing and it's no different anywhere else.

We have a problem in this country when it comes to what our younger generation thinks and how they should resovle problems

That is a fact and using violence is the only way a vast majority know how to deal with the problems they encounter.

[-] 0 points by bigjoe (-117) 11 years ago

I just read the story. Just another day in da hood. I’m not joking. It’s so common, most cases don’t even make the news anymore.

When will people understand the problem is gangs and drugs, not law abiding gun owners. None of the proposed gun restrictions would have made a difference in this situation.

I understand the difficulty of confronting gang violence. But we must do something or this continue to get worse.
