The taxpayer was bilked when the wall st banksters (along with their repub tools) threatened to stop all lending unless they got a trillion bucks.

Australia's stimulus package actually did stimulate the economy.
So did ours. Unfortunately our repubs waterered it down, and blocked every other stimulus/jobs bill and state repubs fired almost 1 million state workers
Even still we've had slow growth since the small stimulus went through and hopefully will get more passed the traitorous repubs.
And as I recall the tarp it was a repubs program that helped repub constituents. And dem's were brought along with threats.

Eventually after the dems added some transparency (not enough) and mechanisms to ensure pay back, as well as cutting the total amount and adding money for labor anddem interests they passed it.

Pelosi did reject Bushs tarp and forced improvements that would help some liberal labor interests and stimulus and insist on payback, and cut Bushs original request.
