Forum Post: George Soros didn't start the Occupy movment, he doesn't run it and he doesn't fund it.

The conspiracy theorists and Truthers are all convinced that the Occupy movement was started by George Soros and he is running it. They are still convinced of this even though it has become really clear that the government is doing everything they can to shut it down. This may have been talked about already, but conspiracy theorists and others keep pushing this lie on everyone. This belief that the Occupy movement is run by George Soros has caused lots of conspiracy theorists to attack this forum relentlessly like religious fanatics.

Conspiracy theorists don't let rationality get in the way of stupidity. The Truthers, especially the ones who listen to Alex Jones have the bad habit of accusing people and groups of being government or NWO agents without providing any proof. Alex Jones started off saying that the Occupy movement was started by George Soros, but after it became clear that the government was doing everything they could to shut it down, he then started saying they lost control of it. This is nonsense.

These are the simple facts that Alex Jones and other opponents of the Occupy movement ignore. These aren't myths, they are major pieces of bullshit:

  1. Adbusters isn't funded by George Soros, it wasn't started by him and it isn't run by him. This is a major piece of bullshit that conspiracy theorists keep pushing.

  2. Adbusters received $26 000 from 2007 to 2009 from the Tides foundation, which wasn't started by George Soros either, it isn't run by him and he doesn't tell it what to do. The Tides foundation gets funding from many different sources and George Soros is one source.

  3. $26 000 over two years isn't enough to pay for one employee let alone an organization. $13 000 doesn't go very far at all. A fraction of that $26 000 over 2 years may have had some of George Soro's money in it, so the real amount of George Soro's contribution would be less still.

  4. Adbusters makes most of their money from subscriptions, ie, the average person, not rich oligarchs.

  5. Adbusters got the $26 000 from the Tides foundation 2 years before the Occupy movement started, so Adbusters was free from money from the Tides foundation 2 years before the Occupy movement started. If Adbusters is run by George Soros then they are working for free.

  6. Adbusters put the call out to Occupy Wall Street, but they don't run the Occupy movement at all, they don't fund the Occupy movement and they don't tell the Occupy movement what to do.

  7. Alex Jones pays Matt Drudge to link to his bullshit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XZbsVv6HFw. The conspiracy theorists have greatly exaggerated the role of George Soros and Adbusters in the formation and the running of the Occupy movement.

If someone can call Alex Jones and present him with these basic facts that would be good. If you call him a bullshit artist then he will cut you off. If you call up to disagree you will move upto the head of the queue.

OWS is run by Kalle Lasn and Lisa Fithian. Google those two names, read all the articles, see all the videos and educate yourselves. The only reason outsiders can get away with suggesting George Soros is because OWS's don't even know who their real leaders actually are. How stupid can you people be?

Kalle Lasn is the one who had the idea to occupy Wall Street. His magazine is published in Canada, where he lives. He got a small amount of seed money from a guy named Halper. $20,000. There was an exchange about that on this website.

[-] pinker 0 points 1 month ago articles.businessinsider.com/2011-10-18/wall_street/30292660_1_crude-wall-streeter-traders just Google lasn halper ows. lots of legit info on it. that's just the first one that popped up. ↥like ↧dislike reply permalink

[-] alouis (New York, NY) 1 points 1 month ago Okay Halper is a Wall Street veteran born in Brooklyn. Is he Jewish? I ask because it's being alleged that Lasn is anti Semetic and his parents apparently thought the wise thing to do was head for Germany (they were the "bad guys") while the Red Army (they were with the "good guys" and "our side" then) advanced. I would guess then if that's the case his upbringing might have been influenced by a dislike of Jewish people.

It gets messy because there are valid reasons not to like the influence of certain Jews without blanket hating each and every Jewish person. ↥like ↧dislike reply edit delete permalink

[-] pinker 0 points 1 month ago I can't speak to that because I don't know much about it. There are a lot of WASPs influential in politics too. Don't know what to say. However, I did come across the document Lasn wrote on Jews. It was rather odd to me. Just think there is stuff going on behind the scenes that might not be so noble. There always is. ↥like ↧dislike reply permalink

[-] alouis (New York, NY) 1 points 1 month ago George Washington took material assistance from France, which was an absolute monarchy at the time. Each had their own distinct motives. Politics makes strange bedfellows as they say. I'd not judge OW either on Lasn or Halper, but rather on what OW does. ↥like ↧dislike reply edit delete permalink

[-] pinker 0 points 1 month ago I don't have a problem with what they do for the most part, but I always question motives and who's making money. Unfortunately, there are very few wholly decent/pure people on this planet. And every movement in the end is politics. I don't think this will remain pure due to human nature. Insidious greed is always there. ↥like ↧dislike reply permalink

[-] alouis (New York, NY) 1 points 1 month ago Seems that Lasn is dependent on Halper's generosity or good will. I know nothing about Halper or his motives. I support OW for what I have seen of it. $20,000 would be chicken feed to Halper and looks to be a donation and not an investment. ↥like ↧dislike reply edit delete permalink

Clear to me the PTB or oligarchs tried to first ignore Occupy, then ridiculed it, then tried to smash it. It must be because Occupy is doing something right!

George Soros is being too greedy with his money. Someone that wealthy should be giving OWS more help. What could we do to help encourage him to share the wealth with the rest of us?

[-] 2 points by fadlusters (4) 12 years ago

Hmmmm, I'm slightly puzzled why Adbusters is now promoting a Tipton Tax scheme under the guise of the Robin Hood tax idea. This movement even has George Soros as a supporter (link: http://robinhoodtax.org/whos-behind-it )

Any small amount of research can uncover that Soros has been quoted to support such a tax for the last 10+ years. Why? Because the tax would benefit his style of stock market trading.

So let's summarise. Adbusters calls on the Occupy movement to back a Tipton Tax scheme that ultimately benefits heavy investment traders like Soros and Buffet.

Switch the light off before you leave please.

Alex Jones is not the only one who possesses correct information about OWS. Aaron Klein's research (kleinonline.com) confirms George Soros's organization(s) as the (only) financial and informational source for OWS. See for yourself by entering "site:http://kleinonline.wnd.com soros" into google.com search field.

Soros is an elitist 1% thief. Hopefully he'll join Kim Jong Ill soon.

They use buzzwords instead of argument and fact, because their audiences respond so readily that way. People don't want to THINK about an issue, they just want to be cued by their leaders on WHAT to think. If Alex Jones screams "Soros", they all jump, it works every time.
