Hi, I'm an active participant in Occupons Montréal who's very involved in the protests here. We don't actually have very good contacts with you guys, and I don't know how I should go about getting this info spread through your networks. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.
The people of La Belle Province invite you, tonight, at 8pm EST, to grab your pots and pans, go out on your balcony and bang it as loud as you can. In solidarity with the people of Quebec, show your indignation for corruption, undemocratic practices, and debt slavery. Repeat.
Montreal police have been doing whatever it takes to snuff out the nightly protests.
In response, we've de-centralized.
Last night, at 8pm EST, people all over the province, but mainly in Montreal, went outside and started banging on kitchen pots, making a massive noise that could be heard all over Montreal island.
People came off their balconies and into the streets, and dozens of marches started forming, getting larger, and larger, all converging on downtown.
We're doing it again tonight, and every night, jusqu'à la victoire!

WTF?! Re. Trashy - There was a pedantic put down by Bot-Boy here to which I replied (9:15 am EST, 26th May) ! Both The Trashy comment AND my reply have now vanished - despite 'up votes' for both !! The code for this site is open source and available to anyone and as Trashy clearly has some 'puter/bot-scripting skills maybe he has hacked the main code or can jump in and edit ad hoc !!

Hmmmm. That, OR the mods are just sick of his b.s., and so, when they get rid of his comments, the replies also disappear.
You are a kind at heart person who instinctively and honourably likes to think well of others ... BUT Trashy's comments only seem to be 'selectively disappeared' - generally when he has posted hastily and then regrets having done so. His prickly, pedantic instruction to me to cease using French (wtf?!) was made 6 hours ago but only vanished when I replied half an hour ago (9:15 am EST, 26thMay) !
EITHER Trashy can hack in at choice due to his 'puter skills &/or he has arrogated admin/mod privileges OR he has a 'friend in admin' ... either way I'm getting annoyed at being censored as I lost Three comments to him (one an 8 line ditty!) on GK's "Idealism" related thread yesterday !!

I also noticed, last night, a comment by Renneye in the 'Best Comments' section with 20 points, but clicking on it revealed no such (i.e. missing) comment anywhere in the thread. Remember when Trashy up-voted people to bring them to mods attention, thereby getting them deleted?

yeah,. every action is blamed on the whole movement,. individuals take actions, do they have a commitment for the rest of the movement to speak for them all with these actions?? do you really believe what you are saying? That if some dip-sht does some dastardly deed anyone he was associated with is some how responsible for his actions? people in glass houses, and all that.
They were students that took part in the protests and were part of the rioting over the tuition hikes of their super cheap tuition. That to me says the movement.

I propose we ban/protest every McDonald's in the world until they remove each and every Non-Bank ATM… WHY?
By forcing a Goliath like McDonald's to remove $2 fees, we are essentially pinning McDonald’s vs. The Banks.
If McDonald's loses enough business they will follow suit. We can continue this campaign on to other franchises. If Banks/Credit Cards are going to charge us ridiculous fees, I suggest we take away the opportunity.

One of the people in Occupy Town Square was arrested in Montreal, but is back in NYC now. Most everyone in the group of about 12 people sent him our support via email. I promised to buy a couple pitchers of beer next time I am with them all, even though I am a club soda man now. :-)

College SHOULD be as close to free as possible. College cost increases have nothing to do with normal inflation. It is criminal the way we burden our young people with huge debt just as they are starting their lives. It is a new form of indentured servants. If they could get relief they would have more disposable income to create demand (the real economic problem we face) and therefore force job creators to finally hire again. Support the 99% Vote out anti lower student interest rate politicians!
It can never be made free; at best, it's costs can simply be forced onto someone else. Tuition increases have been caused by too much money being indiscriminately thrown at college. Students and their parents borrowed themselves drunk with little thought about the effectiveness and consequences of the spending. Every loan has a signature at the bottom. Students should use their brains and make better choices before they go squealing for more subsidy.

If the a borrower is not smart enough to realize what they're gettin into certainly the banker/mortgager/lawyer/real estate agent knows. Do we believe in buyer beware? because that is the ethos we used to steal the land from native americans. We gotta be better than that. No? In any event education is a driving force in an improved economy/standard of living. We must as a society make sure it is affordable because....... ready?....... You'll never have a very good life if everything is always someone else's fault. Radical: Read what you sign. Crazy: Know that borrowing money needs to be repaid. Shocking: Default doesn't make things yours, paying for things make them yours.
More subsidy just means more inflation. There's plenty of money for education, now our educated just need to use those brains when they spend it. That's the least taxpayers deserve to ask of them before they cough up more cash.

I'm truly sorry that you got caught in that. I totally disagree with that attack, and I think it was shameful for the movement. I think most of my comrades agree.
The movement went beyond tuition some time ago. The strike was called on the tuition increase, and that's what the media's been focusing on, but it was never just a question of not wanting to pay more money.
Really, it's a question of priorities. With municipal and provincial government in Quebec that most people regard as thoroughly corrupt and in the pockets of big business, it's appalling to suggest that we need to lighten the taxpayer's burden by cutting money for an already strained education system, while simultaneously asking students to take on more debt.
The students aren't the only ones being affected by this, it touches every facet of Quebec society, sometimes in different ways, but always leading back to the same issues of corruption. It just took a little time for people to figure that out.
Last night's casserole march was one of the most beautiful things I've seen in my life, but it got very little mention in mainstream media. But tonight's going to be massive, and I think it's going to spread beyond Quebec.
