For a year and a half, 80-year-old Kentucky resident Shirley Logsdon received repeated calls from a debt collection agency over an unpaid medical bill.

Then one day, out of the blue, she received a letter saying the $983 debt had been handled — purchased by Rolling Jubilee, a group linked to the Occupy Wall Street movement.

“I was dumbfounded but delighted, of course,” Logsdon, who is retired along with her husband of 62 years, told AFP.

“We got a letter saying that everything had been resolved — finally it is over, you don’t have to worry, you don’t owe us anything. (…) I didn’t know these people. It was a godsend.”

"According to Strike Debt member Ann Larson, 'for every dollar of debt we abolish, we paid only two cents.' ”

nice

I agree.

It does seem odd that it all of a sudden shows up in a French paper.

the Raw Story is a French paper? Nope, not quite.

By Agence France-Presse

It took me a minute to find it - for a moment I was quite confused. Agence France-Presse ran the story and the Raw Story picked it up.

Not sure about ABC, but Brian Williams at NBC might cover it in a short blurb Monday night, ya never know. But I don't think they will let Scott Pelley say such things over at CBS.

Yeah, for some reason they pick up from there and, too often, the Guardian. I have zero expectations from the telly.

I wonder what Cronkite would have to say. It is a shame really. And it's wrong. It's more than just wrong, it's completely misguided. At some point a discussion of reality that bends toward innuendo promotes confusion and distrust. It enables the promotion of dysfunctional and counter productive processes and procedures.

It isn't the scientists fault. I'm tempted to blame the lawyers, but the fact is someone must have told them it should be this way.

They were wrong.

To share out to a wider audience - that is how the internet can get better presentation to the general public.

Well since an obvious shill downvoted the comment - it must be good for a repeat:

Oooo down voted twice - same shill ? No matter seems like some shill (s) do not like my encouraging people to use social media to share out information to a wider audience - SO - it MUST be worth it to repeat:

Yep - if you're gonna "find" coverage - the internet would be the place to "LOOK" as it is not a presentation. I expect foreign media is doing the same as our own home grown corp(se)oRATe media = using events elsewhere for distractions from what is happening at home.

Yeah, I go to newspapers overseas to get the other side or the dirt on what is not being reported here. I suspect they do the same over there and somewhere we get pretty close to the truth in the middle.

Has a tendency to make the gamesmanship in the media much more obvious.

Normally debt collectors don't call to say the matter is cleared up, do they? They never give away their rights to sue at a later time for the remainder of the money.
