Forum Post: "Finally, thanks must be given to the Occupy movement"..,

Just a little perspective for all those who say Occupy has achieved nothing;

"Finally, thanks must be given to the Occupy movement who, a year ago, set the tone of this election year by getting everyone to talk about the 1% vs. 99%. It inspired Obama and his campaign to realize that there was a huge popular sentiment against what the wealthy have done to the country and there was something wrong if just 400 rich guys owned more than 160 million Americans combined (all those moochers and bums). This led to Romney's "47%" remarks and THAT was the beginning of the end of his campaign. Thank you Mother Jones for releasing that secret tape, and thank you to the minimum wage worker who placed a camera on the serving buffet next to the candle. This morning's headline in the Washington Post says it all: "At Romney headquarters, the defeat of the 1 percent." "

It is clearly not as much as many of us would like to see achieved, however it is something, and likely important.

Of course, Obama's victory is better than the right wing nutters taking over, (keep in mind, they still control the Congress), but we have much more work to do and should begin focusing again on specific issues. We can start with going back to the Declaration of the Occupation of NYC from 9/29/11:

There's no formula for happiness, that's guaranteed to work. There's no dream that was ever complete, without its little quirks.

But it's a start, if you open up your heart. Try not to hide, What you feel inside. Just open up your heart. etc....

Nice, builder. Thanks. :)

It's from a song that's on the soundtrack for the old surf movie Morning of the Earth. American artist by the name of G Wayne Thomas. Cool movie too.

I had a feeling it was a song. We can always count on music and art to touch our souls.

Agreed!

I like that dems use the OWS language and push the concepts. They are of course woefully inadequate and we are still on the brink of economic disaster.

I think we can move the country towards the agenda of OWS, With growing protests. Solidarity, and strength can force change that benefits the 99%.

While we work on the new system from the ground up, horizontal, with direct democracy, of course.

I think that is kind of what jph is getting at with this post. Very good, VQkag2.

Obama's victory means nothing except just more power to the politicians. With the FairTax as supported by Gary Johnson, power will transfer from politicians to the people. Vote for Gary Johnson in 2016

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Oh please let's not do the campaign thing already! Johnson got 1% of the vote. Doesn't that tell you something?

Support opendebates.com, movetoamend.com, nationalpopularvote.com. and mandatory voting If you truly support 3rd party, then maybe Johnson will have a chance in 2016.

[-] 1 points by mrbill0626 (33) 11 years ago

FairTax is what we need. www.fairtax.org Are you listening America? Wake up!

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

So your plan is a national sales tax.

That would be a regressive tax. And hurt the poorest most of all & benefit the wealthiest in enormous ways..

Sorry I can't support such a plan.

Let's just tax the wealthiest who have bought our govt, rigged the system against us, sent our jobs overseas, busted our unions, raided our pensions, raised our health premiums, crashed the world economy, unfairly hoarded the wealth from the 99%, have only benefited from the crash, & have not contributed to the recovery.,

So obviously we can't support a sales tax that transfers the tax burden from the people who created our economic problems to the the people victimized by those economic problems.

Peace, Good luck in all your good efforts.

It is one step.

Now we the people need to continue.

One thing the president said in his victory speech that is absolutely true. ( not verbatim ) Your job ( American People ) has not ended with this election. It is not time to walk away and say the job is finished. No - You ( American People ) need to stay involved and drive forward the changes that are needed.

I like mike.

Karma works.

We hope Obama can change on these issues.

You do not think that obama supports the 1%??? you are wrong. He has taken campaign donations from the and offered them entitlements.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

You offend decent people when you use racist slurs like "spic", "illegals", and "retarded".

You should be denounced by all decent people!

Didn't you say Pres Obama didn't deserve the Presidency because "like all blacks he got where he is based on special treatment with Affirmative Action"

Do you hate Pres Obama because he is black?

All other comments from you will be ignored. Go seek some mental help for your self please

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Please refrain from the hatespeech against latino ("spic", "illegals") & mentally ill people ("retarded").

[-] 1 points by Ache4Change (3340) 11 years ago

See! You can be sensible, I told you! Well done.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

I disagree. He is pretending! His hatespeech regarding latinos ("spics", "illegals") and mentally ill ("retarded") shows him forwhat he is.

Ignorant, hateful, racist piece of shit. Please don't encourage him. The public town square (this forum?) shouldbe a place to denounce this kind of 19th century hate.

[-] 3 points by Ache4Change (3340) 11 years ago

Ok lol! I must admit that in a previous comment, I did use the 'r' word to him in combination with 'reactionary and rightwing' on his '50% thread'! I won't tell you how he described Obama to me in a private message because you'd probably have a fit and possibly explode, lol.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

LOL. I

I do not have to tell you this but our political views are not he same. I am not just speaking about you and I but every American citizen. We need to work together and meet in the middle somewhere. The Gov rather Rep or Dem are hosing all of us

[-] 4 points by Ache4Change (3340) 11 years ago

I agree. All Americans must come together to act for our best interests. Healthcare, education, poor infrastructure, bloated war machine, corporate captured govt., these & others need unity and solidarity.

[-] 0 points by Nowsmichigan (-310) 11 years ago

You are correct and without solidarity we will NEVER move forward. If all Americans do not pull together than it is only going to get much worse

[-] 3 points by Ache4Change (3340) 11 years ago

Yes! All Americans of every colour and creed. From The Great Seal - 'E pluribus, unum'!

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

But you won't work with spanish and mentally ill people?

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Who do you wanna work with? Only white people without mental illness?

You have already made it clear you hate spanish people when you used the racist slurs "spic" & "illegals".

You also hate mentally ill people as your use of "retarded" as an insult indicates.
