Sign the petition by Daily Kos and the ACLU asking Congress to roll back federal mandatory minimum sentencing laws by passing the Smarter Sentencing Act before the end of this year.

ooooooo another down vote. Someone (s?) seems pretty threatened by this petition request.

They think the petitions are futile,DK.BTW-my New Policy is to upvote you as much as possible-previously I was abstaining from the twinkling. So I will sign the Petition even though I,too have little faith in them. One twinkle, coming up...

What do petitions actually accomplish there are so many nowadays too are they just more white noise...?

[-] 2 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

I don't know.Move On made everybody tired of them, and they seem to be easy for TPTB to ignore. If DK wants me to sign some petitions,I'm inclined to do it because if it is a waste of time,it doesn't waste much of it.Signing every petition that I am asked to would become a freakin' full time Job.LOL

Awareness starts somewhere for some reason - something grabbed attention - sparked interest - sparked . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The only reason I care ( at all ) about the votes - is in how the negative votes can pull good things off of the best comment board.

Like positive actions to take part in.

I know there are those who don't believe in on-line actions - and that is fine - for them.

But do they really think that the 400,000 people that showed up for the climate march in New York just happened without on-line advocacy? Or the other hundreds of thousands that should up in places all around the world?

So if a comment of mine is worth nothing - then give it nothing or down vote it - but if it contains something like a good petition or some good food for thought - then by all means twinkle it.

This ( these ? ) down voting troll ( s ? ) - seem to be attacking me - but I feel it is more about attacking ideas and actions that have nothing to do with me - other than that I posted em.

I am aware that you are being downvoted. That's why I can't maintain a non twinkle policy. The hardcores don't like the idea of putting faith in elections and all that. You are a wise person and if you think I should sign things,I will.I do sign some things, anyhow. It's not like you are telling people to Take a Shit in the Ocean-that is not a constructive or helpful activity for anybody other than those who have no choice.Your comments are very good. You are Cheerful.Where's the Beef?

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Where's the Beef?

I don't think one will find it at McD's

Sorry - lame joke.

And thanks for the compliments.

But Like I say - I feel that it has nothing to do with me - but rather it has to do with trying to keep out of sight = offered actions and education.

What is wrong with internet action? Nothing - it helps or it does not - no one gets hurt.

But - if internet action does nothing else - it does plant a seed. That seed may sprout or it may not - that sprout might thrive or it might not.

But if seeds are not planted - then they have absolutely NO chance to sprout or grow.

Never mind the Beef-Soy futures are where the shorts are gonna pay-IMHO.You are doing the right thing. It only takes about 1 minute to sign these things-so why not? If TPTB wants to ignore everything, let them do.Might not always work as well as it has thus far.

Soy futures are where the shorts are gonna pay

Genetically-modified soy, Roundup destroying life in South ...

A futures market?

[-] 2 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

The people who bought soy futures even a little short are still gonna make money when they take delivery because the price is likely to be higher than what they paid.Soy is the only ag that really looks all that good right now,but wheat very well could spike horribly high.In that case even very cautious positions could end up making Bank. It's very likely a spike in wheat will occur,IMHO-wheat can be show dramatic spikes-a terrible thing for the civilians. It takes Balls of Steel and a Heart of Ice to speculate in wheat.I hate all that GM shit and Roundup-DON'T try telling Farmers that. They don't,shall we say-want to hear it.

They don't,shall we say-want to hear it.

Who wants to hear that their livelihood is poisonous?

[-] 4 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

Farmers wreck stuff. They don't think twice.BTW-people who bought up futures in Framing-(1000 boardft framing lumber=1 unit) are about to take delivery on orders that are worth way more than they paid-construction is down, but lumber prices are spiking. That means the Koch-topus is gonna get slammed because they are a supplier.(Yay!)Unless the prices collapse-but lumber kind of doesn't do that.I'm thinking the shorts are gonna bank it on deliveries in Jan-Mar '15.

Fighting For Freedom And Fairness = I LIKE IT !!!

Very much related to original post:

Big news! Walmart workers are planning huge protests in the neighborhoods of Walmart’s owners, the Waltons, next week.

Can you sign this petition so they can include your name when they deliver it to the Waltons?

Walmart workers are fed up. They’re tired of watching the Walton family grow richer each day while they struggle to feed their families. The Waltons have as much wealth as 43% of Americans combined. Meanwhile, most Walmart workers make less than just $25,000 a year.

That’s why in just the past few weeks more than 1,350 Walmart stores have already signed on to calls for $15 an hour and access to full-time work. Community members say if the Waltons don’t respond, they’ll hold massive protests on Black Friday.

Can you add your name to their petition?

In Solidarity,

Jamie Way Making Change at Walmart
