It's opened my eyes to what people could do locally to improve their social situation if they wanted to. Imagine a nationwide mutual insurance company with health insurance policies that work hand in hand with municipal hospitals to minimalize the costs of health care. Or imagine city universities like CUNY existing in every city and a nationwide credit union able to provide student loans. None of this would require dependence upon politicians and corporations to get it done. Just the simple will of the people to establish nationwide cooperative institutions and pass municipal initiatives in favor of public owned hospitals, universities, and utilities.

Yeah its a great vision. Gar Alperovitz and Richard Wolff are two of my favorite public intelectuals. I hope someday to be able to contribute something to growing those types of institutions
