One of the inherent problems in the OWS movement is that many insist that OWS is not a political movement. It is a social movement. So, by definition, it would be a contradiction in terms to claim political persecution in the creepy government actions against OWS encampments.

Personally I believe OWS is a political movement that simply has not yet grasp its identity. But I am just one person.

It's probably a safe bet to say to say it's both.

The boundaries between the social and political realms are beginning to blur with hard-handed persecution and erosion of civil liberties.

Democracy is politics. A democratic society is a political society.

The two can't be divorced and still be a free society.

All that we can hope to do is to keep subversives out of the body politic. Wall Street are the most powerful subversives our society has ever known. But they are subversives and need to be regarded as such.
