In addition to the flat tax rate and closing of all tax loopholes, how about voting reform? Occupy Wall Street is looking to educate all citizens. Let's require a fundamental knowledge of civics before acquiring a voter registration. Also, let's limit voting to those individuals who pay tax.

In the old days, we had a Poll Tax instead of an Income Tax. Sixteenth amendment changed all that. Are we better off now?

This is absolutely contrary to the OWS movement. This idea is regressive, reactionary and unconstitutional.

Well, I am against Progressive thinking I guess. I am ready to see a step back. Why should individuals vote if they do not pay tax? Whether an individual pays ten cents in tax or 1 million in tax, these individuals have a legitimate stake in what happens in government since it is their money that will be spent in Washington. Anyone else is obviously going to vote for who gives them the biggest share of the dole.

Likewise, people on Welfare should not be allowed to vote. It is pretty obvious that they will always vote for those who will increase and/or extend their Welfare payments.

Well, then, I don't think taxpayers should be allowed to vote, especially the wealthy, because they'll just vote to lower their taxes.

I didn't really want to say it but that comment above is racist and elitist. It shows no understanding of this movement and is actually in opposition to this movement.

Let's just limit voting to property holders while we're at it.

Won't work. I see calls of RACISM! I actually agree with requirements before being allowed to vote. But, the Establishment needs ignorant peasants to vote for whatever the Establishment wants.

Racism is a crutch to skirt the need to seriously debate the topic. That doesn't mean it won't happen.

How about a basic understanding of economics, anyone that says lets solve all the problems of the world by printing more money should be beaten with a broom handle

You should talk to your financial-corporation-funded politicians about that ...

[-] 0 points by tedscrat (-96) 12 years ago

Based upon what I am hearing, I cannot imagine anyone continuing to have that belief

FriendlyObserverA, poster of that nonsense, is a TROLL.

As long as they are protesting and camping out, they aren't setting or influencing policy. At least I hope not.
