Forum Post: Does anyone have any data to help me out?

Posted 12 years ago on March 6, 2012, 4:45 p.m. EST by JuanFenito (847)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

I am debating with someone on another forum and I need some information that proves that the crime rate has gone up as a result of firearm ownership being at a 20 year high. All I can find are graphs that indicate it is going down. Any help please?

remember ... crimes committed by the govt & the 1% are not considered crimes ... they are thrown out of court ... so they are unlikely to show up in the stats ;)

Speaking of the movement which you seem to like to speak for - when wall street takes down our nation and throws us into a state of total anarchy when money is worthless - guns will be all you'll need - when people are starving - they get hostile

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

I thought money is getting ever more valuable because people have so much less of it?

Or are you referring to the fact that the federal government constantly prints more money to covert their ridiculous spending, which devalues it?

[-] 2 points by elf3 (4203) 12 years ago

I don't care anymore this cause is simple it's one percent hording from 99 percent the god/nature- given abundance of the earth - I may need a gun which is my constitutional right at some point to protect myself from the horrors I can imagine down the road. Money is already not worth the paper it's printed on. It's an imaginary concept to begin with. Aside from which all woman should be able to carry guns - they're the greatest equalizer. I'd appreciate it much more than you if some thug crawls through my window in the dead of night - I'd truly enjoy taking that fucker out and watching the blood splatter. I'm not going to stop and have a conversation with him first either or bargain for his getaway.

Have you ever read the book " Freakonomics"?
It's best not to believe stats or graphs without giving them a lot of examination. Here's a video that may help explain why you're seeing a decrease in crime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rDdMlKV2Mg&feature=youtu.be

You can also visit their website: http://www.freakonomics.com/

My college professor told me those guys were full of baloney and not to listen to them, so I never checked it out. Something about "correlation" and "causatioin". IDK

[-] 1 points by Gillian (1842) 12 years ago

I would get another professor who will teach you how to examine all the variables in statistical research.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Why on earth would I want that when I can have a professor who gives me good grades when I stroke his ego and arrive at the same conclusions he does? I get by on about five minutes of study a week this way. I'm well on my way to getting a degree!

[-] 1 points by Gillian (1842) 12 years ago

Maybe because you have self respect? dignity? integrity?

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Nah... I'd rather have a degree and the false appreciation of a college professor.

[-] 2 points by RedSkyMorning (220) 12 years ago

Just change the subject subtly. Crime rates have been declining in the US for the last 50 years. The increase in firearms may be completely incidental. Other nations have higher firearm ownership rates, like Switzerland and lower crime rates. The US still has the highest crime rate from all crimes in the world I believe.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 12 years ago

i think Brazil or mexico is higher honestly

[-] 2 points by RedSkyMorning (220) 12 years ago

http://www.mapsofworld.com/world-top-ten/countries-with-highest-reported-crime-rates.html

Na, it's the US. Recall, we are a big country with highest prison population by far.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 12 years ago

ok thanks

[-] 2 points by PretendHitGirI (13) 12 years ago

I have all that information including the D vs R crime stats.

All gun crimes are committed by R's. D's are against them and generally never own the horrible death toys.

Before I help you, are you a D or a R?

[-] 1 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

I'm an independant! I'm sick of both parties and I probably definitely almost certainly won't vote any way but independant in the fall!!

(lol...Democrat)

[-] 1 points by PretendHitGirI (13) 12 years ago

btw.... I've been horribly constipated since I've joined this movement. Are you still in the pretzel business? I hear your metamucil and exlax hand painted pretzels are indeed the bomb.

Toss me one, thank you.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

I don't think you want a whole one.... maybe some crumbs. But here you are, at your own risk.

[-] 1 points by PretendHitGirI (13) 12 years ago

I am not convinced that your mean spirited teasing about possibly being an Independent is real joking. I am sorry, but, I cannot take the chance that you are not a hard-core, dyed in the blue and ol skool democrat, therefore I simply cannot help you.

I hope you will be able to understand, although it's been scientifically proven that anyone other than the types of democrats previously mentioned, simply cannot understand anything.

In case I am wrong, I recommend you stop by the Freebird Trailer Park, in Vermont, and have zd teach you some htmls so that you cant learn to "LOL" in larger, much bolder fonts, which are also convincingly colored.

I'll pray for you and sacrifice young virgins in hopes you will come to the light.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

When I first came on this site, I was actually a dyed in the wool libertarian, until I saw one of his "HEE HEE hoo hoo Ha HA HEE HOO posts. It made me feel so bad about myself I changed parties immediately and I saw the error of my ways.

[-] -2 points by PretendHitGirI (13) 12 years ago

Oh I absolutely understand. I'm sure now that you've spent time here and learned the errors of your nutcase ways, and now on your way to becoming an honorable democrat, you are quite grateful to him and his likes.

I'm sure they are enjoying the fruits of their relentless efforts, as well as though they should. I could only wish I had been here to help the leaders figuratively tar and feather you while you were in a state of such diminished mental capacity.

Does mental retardation or autism run in your family? Botulism? Lobotomies?

I'm sorry to hear you had ever considered any such political doctrine and I know you are aware that it is a certain indicator of a serious flaw you have as a human being. I thought at one time that we may be able to be friends or even business partners (your pretzels are extraordinary and I too will have to arsonize two city blocks as opposed to even attempting and futile sanitizing efforts) but there is no way I should ever mislead another into thinking of such bright and radiant possibilities, like raising children together, aggressive water gun fights, or just hooking up at various swinger's events.

Please tell me you don't have a big bird costume, I'll be crushed and maybe even swayed to reconsider.

It is simply a sin for me to speak to you anymore and I must also protect myself from the impossible to shake dark cloud of libertarian stain on your being.

Thank you for being honest and the road to ardent Democratisism is a long one from where you were not long ago. I wish you all the best.

Godspeed.

[-] -1 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Wait!! don't go!! I need advice here, my new found authoritarianism withering without principled advice!

Like, I was ranting on the man the other day, saying they were keeping me from getting ahead, and a friend said I should work hard and study if I want to succeed. What do I say to that?? Work hard? Like, more than 32 hours a week??

Also, someone said that birth control is not a right what is up with that? Isn't any thing I want really bad a right? Celibacy is not an option! Neither is paying out of pocket!

I do not own a big bird costume, but I am into Super Mario cosplay. Do you like patchouli?

Please, I want you really bad. I need you. A relationship with you is a right that others are depriving me of by not paying for it. In that light, are there any special Democrat rituals I can do to make me untainted by my former existence as a Libertarian? I need to make this work like you don't know.

[-] -2 points by PretendHitGirI (13) 12 years ago

I'm really kinda overwhelmed with all this, it's bittersweet indeed.

First off, your priorties are still twisted and lib bent. 32 hours a week is how much time you and your siblings and friends will need to block in to service me. I think 12 hours a week of work is really pushing it.

That's important and I'm glad you brought it up. I want you to run for orifice, I'd love you better if you were a respectable Democrat congressman.

You'll need some big PAC money and a slice of the initial pie will go for me a boob job. If you make enough money, it will be a legitimate campaign expense as your first order of business will be passing a bill so all women have a right to boob jobs. I'll let you pick the cup size.

Super Mario huh? Is your costume made of silk? This is very important as are shackles.

I'm really going to have to think about this, it's rather sudden and mixed relationships tend to be problematic. I'm certain that there are many sympathetic streeters and banksters that will indeed get our relationship started financially, and once you're in, the tax payers can surely pony up the rest.

If they won't, we'll inside trade extracting from their retirements and investments, they want us to have it anyhow. I know a few real estate tricks involving effortless and legal land grabs. ;-)

You don't happen to have lots of frat brothers reasonable facsimile thereof, with which I could sleep with on this, do you? I'm going to have to give it some meaningful thought and an orgy with people who are close to you would help. Don't worry about them gouging and rawhiding me, we'll make sure that vaginal reconstruction gets pork bellied in some superfical budget garbage if it won't slip in with free pills.

It's a lot to consider as I really don't want to be ex-communicated from the Church of Democrat and unless I do something really taboo, like get caught being a cannibal again, or owning a gun, I'm really in.

I'll speak to my senator soon about the possibility of him ordaining a lib cleansing ritualistic act of proving and witnessing a declaration of love for flaming and bleeding heart liberals. Maybe we can work something out and I really wish you could do something about the big bird costume as it's all I can think about.

If he's republican don't help him! It's common knowledge that ALL republican's are evil, immoral, wicked, exploitative, spawn of satan!

[-] 1 points by DKAtroll (7) 12 years ago

Democrats can do no wrong. It's against their nature, which is truly, and always, of the sweetest milk of human kindness.

[-] 2 points by utahdebater (-72) 12 years ago

Obviously. Democrats are basically deities manifest on Earth.

[-] 0 points by DKAtroll (7) 12 years ago

You are very wise. If any doubt ever exists to these truths, it's easy enough to watch them go to DC and nearly give up their lives fighting the evil forces from the other side of the aisle.

They are the true superheros and rock stars. Given this, it is absolutely imperative they be allowed to milk the systems any way they are able for huge increases in wealth, as no others, which could end up with it, would be proper stewards to, or deserve it.

[-] -2 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

So republicans are blacks in the inner city?

[+] -4 points by PretendHitGirI (13) 12 years ago

All blacks who commit crimes, especially violent or treasonous ones, are Republicans.

[-] -2 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

I did not know that. We could save a lot of money by taking the police out of the inner cities. It will be MUCH safer without police and the blacks in control. That will help the budget. Thanks for the info.

[-] -2 points by PretendHitGirI (13) 12 years ago

I'm here to help spread the gospel of democrat.

If you are not a democrat, let me witness to you and sponsor your cleansing.

Repent, the end is near.

[-] -2 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

The book of "Gross-pel of Democrats" has on the first page, one and only one,,,,,,,Commandment.

"The poor democrat SHALL get poorer while the rich Democrat SHALL get richer." So say-eth, the Whore.

I think there is only one page. We do know this AS the "TRUTH" and according to government statistics,,,, really is. Even me,,, a non-believer,,, thinks it is true.

Praise the Whore. (You say you spread the gospel but based on Sandra Flukes testimony,,, I bet YOU spread more.

(give up)

[-] -3 points by PretendHitGirI (13) 12 years ago

I put my knees behind my neck for a rich democrat. Their honor and integrity is such a powerful afrodeeziak.

psssst.... I'm working on a thing with Juan, we'll have to keep our romping on the down low, ok?

btw.... you don't happen to have a big bird costume do you? Handcuffs?

Just curious is all.

I don't know a thing about it.

[-] -2 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

No,, but GirlFriday just put new batteries in her vibrator. She shot a load thinking about Rush Limbaugh a few minutes ago. Soaked the chair. Will you and her be on the border to fit Jose?

[-] 3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

May you feel the pain you deserve and your ears be cut off, you horrid dog.

[-] -2 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

For a 70 year old,, you sure are nasty.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

From the first second I met you, I knew you were a god forsaken twatwaffle.

[-] -1 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

Honey,,, you are showering me with praise. I cant take the flattery. It is getting late. I'm going to bed with the donkey. Good night darling.

[-] 0 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

You are so awesomely disgusting that having your face blown off would make you more hot.

[-] -2 points by Jflynn1964 (-206) 12 years ago

Back off Free, Friday is a nice woman and you are barking up the wrong tree.

[-] 2 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

As exampled in the language. She is not "nice." She is not a "woman" but the barking reference you gave is a hint of what she is. For a 70 year old person,,, she has a dirty mouth.

[-] 2 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

Mississippi State?

[-] 1 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

She turned 80 last week.

[-] -1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

I love MSU graduates. Don't know? You Make Shut Up.

[-] -1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

I'm nowhere close to 70, Mr. Libertarian Koch whore.

[-] -1 points by PretendHitGirI (13) 12 years ago

I know your lying as she's been drier than a popcorn fart long for over 45 years now.

She's a false democrat and not even a good one at that. Just another heathen Republican snake in the grass.

[-] 1 points by freewriterguy (882) 12 years ago

i believe if everyone carried a gun not only would crime go down, but court costs would, as people would settle things themselves, here in utah we had several breakins that the burgular got shot and killed, its alot easier that way. Also, we wouldnt have lost a single plane if everyone carried a gun on 9/11.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Stop it! I need talking points and data that agrees with what I already believe, not rational analysis!

[-] 1 points by kingscrossection (1203) 12 years ago

Can't help you there but i do think writeguy is correct.

[-] 1 points by chell1 (4) 12 years ago

Sorry but the crime rates, oddly enough..considering the current state of economics..have actually been going down. Guns don't cause crime, people do..and while i am all for gun control..increases in crime rates are not the way to further that particular argument imho. i would focus on the number of accidental discharges that result in the death of children. That particular statistic has been going up.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

So, instead of being more likely to be gored to death by a Scandinavian Yak than killed accidentally by a gun, children have moved up the statistical ladder to being more likely to drown in barbecue sauce on a Tuesday?

Also, are there possibly factors that are causing more children to be killed by guns? Are guns less safe than they used to be?

I think the most effective method for gun control is letting the UN have control of the situation.

[-] 1 points by pewestlake (947) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

It's none of the above. Police departments have placed emphasis on the "broken window" theory over the past twenty-odd years. By tracking petty crime to its source, they often nab members of the 1% of communities that commit the most crimes. Gun ownership says virtually nothing about crime statistics. I link to wikipedia when the page aggregates good reference on the subject. This one is pretty good:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_windows_theory

[-] -1 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

There's that 1% again...

I don't want "scientific evidence", I want a graph that agrees with what I already believe!

[-] -2 points by PretendHitGirI (13) 12 years ago

Now you are loosing those nutcase tendencies and gaining some healthy ground on becoming a democrat, or republican. Opppps, scratch that last part.

[-] 1 points by 1sealyon (434) 12 years ago

There is a trick. The two may be correlated, but not causal.

In general crime has dropped as % of population over the last 20 years mainly due to the drop in the % of young men, the main perps.

Also, stats are usually given by State and the laws in adjacent States can have a big effect.

http://www.freakonomics.com/2011/10/06/why-gun-traffickers-should-live-in-arizona/

http://www.datamasher.org/mash-ups/crime-vs-gun-ownership

[-] -1 points by Carlitini99 (-167) 12 years ago

if you are talking about the U.S. , crime is at an all time low.

[-] -1 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

I don't know man, I really don't care what the crime rate is, I just want a graph that affirms what my college professor told me about guns being evil so I'll know everything else he said is true.

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

If you want to ask him a question, ask how much HE makes a year in salary. Ask him if he checked the little box on his tax return and how much MORE he gave to reduce the debt. Ask him if he would take a pay cut so your tuition would be less. Ask him if HE would be a good liberal and help you pay down your student loan. Ask how much he actually believes in sharing and what he is willing to share. Ask him if he would place a jar on his desk and put money in it so the class whores can purchase their contraceptives with it. Ask him what HE has done toward global warming,,,, did he,,, purchase an electric car, solar panels on his home, wind generators? See how much his liberal mind thinks about you after you ask those questions.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

I stopped asking those kinds of questions when I started getting C grades.

[-] -2 points by Carlitini99 (-167) 12 years ago

your college is probably an anti gun liberal. Ask him if illegal immigration increases crime, watch his/her head spin!

[-] -2 points by utahdebater (-72) 12 years ago

Find a regional stat and quote it as national :) they'll never know the difference.
