Forum Post: Do I have a Heavenly Hope? Perhaps I should be asking do you have one. Im already sure about me. But if I ask you, maybe some of you will respond to this post.

No I don't believe so. I know, I know! Jesus died for us to give us a heavenly hope. But you see I'm not a Mother Theresa, I'm not a Gandhi, nor am I a Nelson Mandela nor am I one of many others in history who are more worthy for that hope.

No I have trouble just trying to be a marginally good man. So I believe that the most I can hope for is to be resurrected to God's kingdom here on earth, and that in itself will be a wonder to behold and to partake in.

But that does not mean that I shouldn't try or hope/pray for more! That is our test in this life ( I believe ), that we do our best every day not just for ourselves ( as the bible says we should love our-self ) but also for those we share this life with ( for we should love others as well as we love our-self ). That is why I am thankful for the opportunity to advocate for positive change in our world.

I may not ever make a difference, but I am grateful for the opportunity to try. And I pray that my efforts and motives will be taken into consideration on the day of the resurrection. As I pray that your efforts will stand you in good stead as well.

Forward the 99% and the effort to better our lives.

Thank you. Please share.

Believe it or not I'm not religious either.

Religion is man made.

I believe in God and His Son.

What motivates you?

To be "Good"

To do "Good"

I have a corresponding version of it. I am a believer, but am not Christian. (Also) hope you don't mind. :)

Its not in me to mind that people have other beliefs. It is in me to mind when good moral values are not expressed or supported as that does not promote fellowship. That was my intent with this post, to promote consideration.

Well?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

In God We trust.

Really? Not by looking at the lack of responses to this post.

But it used to be true ( 'er ) in this country.

Just goes to show how far moral support has been eroded.

Good post. See, some of are still alive here! I suspect there's going to be a bit of a slowdown on this website, due probably with the oncoming holidays. It should pick up after the new year. That's my guess anyway.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Wow! Thank you so much for the reply!!!!!!!!!! I thought that maybe I had gone taboo.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

I have noticed a bit of a slowdown over the last week or so, so it's probably safe to assume it's not personal. Definitely keep that sense of humor though, I suspect we'll all need one come next year. ;-)

Again. Thank you so much for responding. After a couple of hours of silence I started to feel like that guy in an episode of the twilight zone. You know the one where this guy ( Burgess Meridith ) a librarian wishes he had more time and no interruptions so that he could spend his time reading. Then world war 3 happens and he is the sole survivor along with his library. He finally has time to read all of the books he ever wanted to, and no chance of being interrupted. Then He breaks his glasses.

If I rememberize correctly the title was "All the time in the world"

A great episode from an iconic series. Rod Serling was a true genius.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Yeah even black and white it was pretty great. Thought provoking.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

Yep. One of the few TV series from the '60's that has, and will I believe, stand the test of time. As the old saying goes, 'they don't make 'em like they used to.'

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

But we can always hope that someone will keep trying.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

That's one thing that's hard to understand. I guarantee there is no shortage of good writers out there with boatloads of good ideas. Why is it so rare to get any of them on the big or small screen? I'm sure it is in large part economics, but still. We deserve quality programming, damn it!

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Yes we do but like much of big business its easier just to bang something out and rake in the cash.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

Exactly. It's all about cutting costs, maximizing profits, the same old story. It's cheaper to pay a hack writer to churn out an episode that follows a set 'formula' than to pay a real writer for an original idea. Likewise, for the 'big screen,' the prohibitive costs of movie-making means producing remakes and sequels ad-nauseam for an already established fan base is far safer, economically, than risking tens of millions of dollars on a shot-in-the-dark. Hence, the endless comic book adaptations. Also why, increasingly, many people are heading overseas to have their movies made. If Hollywood isn't careful, they may become irrelevant eventually.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Or they may very well become the modern day B - movie moguls. Although I did like the remake of Alice with J. Depp

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

Yeah, that was a good movie. It's hard to go wrong with Depp or Tim Burton IMO.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

IMO ? I'm sorry I guess I'm not that In touch with text speak. I'm gettin old you know?

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

'In my opinion.' I try not to do that (use net abbreviations) but it's an easy habit to get into. You'll also see 'IMHO' a lot, an abbreviation of 'in my humble opinion.' Don't feel too bad, I've had to look up quite a few of those in the last few months via Wikipedia. I'm getting up there myself, I just turned 53 a couple weeks ago.
