Forum Post: DISGUSTING! "Liberal Democrats offer relatively positive assessments of libertarianism..." Looks like Koch Brothers are winning.

This is sickening news. Libertarians are tools for the elite! I suspect Koch Brothers, of course, are responsible for this:

Mixed Views of ‘Libertarian’

"The American public remains divided over the word libertarian, with 38% offering a positive reaction, 37% a negative reaction, and 24% offering that they don’t have a reaction either way.

The steepest divide in reactions to the term libertarian are not political but generational. By a 50% to 28% margin, Views are more split among those age 30-64, while those age 65 and older offer more negative (43%) than positive (25%) reactions.

Overall, there is only a small partisan divide when it comes to views of libertarianism – Republicans offer slightly more negative reactions than do Democrats or independents (45% vs. 35% and 37%, respectively). Independents have more positive reactions (44%) than either Republicans (34%) or Democrats (36%).

Liberal Democrats offer relatively positive assessments of libertarianism – 47% have a positive reaction and just 32% have a negative reaction. This is matched by the positive ratings among people who agree with the Tea Party movement – by a 51% to 36% margin they react positively to the word libertarian."

I think liberal sounds too much like libertarian, it would be wise if OWS would help the under 30 crowd to know the difference, and also combat Koch Brothers marketing of Libertarianism to the youth.

Koch propagandists have been demonizing the word "liberal" for generations now. Since the 1970's at least. I am not sure the word, noble as the underlying philosophy is, can be saved in any less than a generation or two of concerted effort.

In Germany the Liberals are the capitalist party and the Libertarians left wing anarchists.

It does get confusing, I think certain Libertarians capitalize on it. Are you from Germany?

Liberals = FDP Libertär = politically correct term for anarchist Anarchists = those who kill leaders and riot in the streets.

The US anarchists seem to want no laws, not necessarily murderous. In truth these anarchists are tools for the elite who don't want any governmental regulation, which kind of makes them Libertarians by default.

Mainstream anti-government libertarianism against welfare is crypto-racism. Excessive defense spending is not debated. And of couse lobbyists like anti-government to advance their deregulation agenda.

Nail meet hammer. Well put.

"carrot without stick"!

On the one hand, gov gets plundered, see Blackwater etc., on the other hand regulation and control is rejected.

Carrot = state aid, gov contracts Stick = regulation, market control

when you are sick and tired of the corruption you would endorse libertarian views. Quite ironic.

Isn't it funny how the Tea Party opposes WallSt regulations and blames the President for the mess? He gets blamed because WallSt corrupted his administration and congress, because WallSt had to be bailed out.

Obama is too much a willing participant in the corruption for think of him as blameless. He has turned the oval Office into a branch office of Goldman-Sachs.

I see these as unpolitical commerical forces which overshadow and ultimately capture partisan politics. I assume that politicians per se aren't interested to open the flood gates to them. Except that carrots are nice and stick hurts.

Even gold diggers take older men as second best!

She is the exact opposite of OWS. Obama's advanced team? Uh, not after he signed NDAA. Obama has made me go socialist.
