Forum Post: Disgruntled Old Man Squabbling Is So Last Year

Posted 2 months ago on Aug. 3, 2014, 12:56 p.m. EST by shortNfatNbaldBUTsexy (-113)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

jart tried to clean house of this disgruntled old man squabbling, but unfortunately some have created new usernames and come back to continue attacking other users with their incessant squabbling.

Disgruntled Old Man Squabbling is so last year.

Lying and making false accusations to support that type of squabbling is so last year.

"short and fat and bald..." sure looks like one of those new usernames, less than a month old, so I guess this post falls into the "takes one to know one" grouping

[-] 1 points by veritablevegitable (17) 2 months ago

I have been here but a short time. But from what I have gathered in that time - Is - that this individual = short n fat - is a long time troll. It has tried to convince me that it is a friend of the sites owner. Why does the sites owner put up with this stuff?

[-] 1 points by shooz (-6) from Detroit, MI 2 months ago

Actually, that short fat guy did a lot for this site. He helped get ride of infiltrators. That's why the owner of the site likes him.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (6667) from Phoenix, AZ 2 months ago

I would suppose that would explain him and you having been here for so long.....oh I got that wrong you are both new usernames forced into existence by that fact that you were already purged by the owner, in an attempt to raise the discussion here, oh well, life goes on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W69SSLfRJho

[-] 1 points by veritablevegitable (17) 2 months ago

I take it - that you have been here for a while. Let me ask you. Is it always so unfocused here? Not to be insulting but I do not see a whole lot of interaction that would have anything to do with protesting the corruption in this country or anywhere else.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (6667) from Phoenix, AZ 2 months ago

suggestions were made early on that might have led to the harassing of the collective voice here as it is harassed at the "live" protests, but the software was freeware and limited and the people organizing protest had little interest in the thoughts of the masses, damn shame that, I did at first see the forum as a powerful tool , but like so many tools available this became another unused by the movement, so it is an internet forum, a place to record your thoughts if you want so at least you can know you made the knowledge available, one can only do so much, people control their lives in the end.

This could have been a think tank to rival the best funded 1% tanks in the country, but ego overcame the commitment of those who might push the ideal forward and it is now an internet forum.

[-] -1 points by ZenDog (-18) from Burlington, VT 2 months ago

You never went to an NYCGA or other Occupy event I see. OWS was never focused unfortunately. Gobbledygook essentially. OWS just became a place to vent about capitalism and propose all kinds of half baked ideas of no money, minimum wage tricks, perfect cities, etc... Nothing ever comes out of any ideas here because there is no focus and will to achieve. OWS is a squabblers playground. So start squabbling!

[-] 2 points by veritablevegitable (17) 2 months ago

You do not believe in the protests.

Why are you here?

[-] 1 points by ZenDog (-18) from Burlington, VT 2 months ago

This is a forum, not the protests. The protests don't exist anymore, that was years ago. I like thinking. I believe it is time to think, not act.

[-] 1 points by veritablevegitable (17) 2 months ago

Sorry but not acting, not taking action. Is that not what has gotten us to such a nasty place as a society?

[-] 0 points by ZenDog (-18) from Burlington, VT 2 months ago

Taking wrong actions can be just as detrimental as taking none. It's important to think properly of which actions to take before taking them. OWS actions were mostly a waste of time so far. They didn't change much of anything.

When is the last time you protested in Occupy's name? I didn't even know Occupy was still organizing protests.

[-] 2 points by gsw (2697) 2 months ago

Get a corp group to tour the 50 capitals, in 100 days, (to get in the news and give solutions to the frustrated public....who was hoping for solutions and progress from OWS)

Would be cool if hedges and chomsky could speak at some of these events

Meet up with local concerned citizens

Have a list of complaints ... A petition of Grievances

A list of solutions

REPEAT

Keep it simple And watch the chomsky. Interview by hedges https://occupywallst.org/forum/its-time-to-act-and-its-urgent-chris-hedges-interv/

[-] 0 points by ZenDog (-18) from Burlington, VT 2 months ago

That would be a good plan if we were there yet. I still think we need to do very fundamental thinking about what we want and how we should go about getting it. The list of complaints is not clear, and the list of solutions is even murkier. The greatest philosophers of today still don't really know how to stop capitalism. It's a very difficult problem.

[-] 2 points by gsw (2697) 2 months ago

I don't know we need to stop capitalism, just the large scale monopolistic Wall Street model, where Wall Street sucks 30 percent off the economy,

I like the two track model, a blend

But with citizens with information as to the effects of capitalism and pollution

PS thank you ZD Glad you rediscovered your Zen

edit yes, but do we need to have all the answers immediately, just the openness to ask questions publicly would be a better place than we have now

EDIT

Maybe ban all arms sales would be needed. Outlaw war and violence.

Capitalism always leads to companies getting richer and richer to the point where you get more monopolies. Wall Street is not a model outside capitalism, it is part of capitalism.

I guess you could take out Wall Street by removing the concept of shareholders. But then companies would be even more totalitarian since only a few people would own them. At least with shareholders, the ownership is divided amongst many.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, and exactly how you would fix the Wall Street problem without ending capitalism.

Care to specify?

[-] 2 points by gsw (2697) 2 months ago

Just make the people all voters (citizens) 51 percent shareholders of all public traded corporations and equal recipients of profits, That could be an improvement.

[-] 2 points by gsw (2697) 2 months ago

I was in Alaska this summer and it was interesting how the gun loving locals look forward to their oil royalty checks.

Two track model

Food is produced locally by unemployed volunteers. They can construct green houses too. Maybe the aquaculture fish vegetable model

They can construct mobile yurt housing

All get a basic free medical plan, and additional three thousand dollar education tax credit

4 day work week 32 hour maximum

Better a 3.5 work week.

In addition to all the healthy food medical and education, they would have proceeds of yurt sales, build of green light cars, for off highway use, also efficient bikes, and can build the solar road project, and efficient high speed train systems

Their incentive to participate, retirement plan in 20 years, less for older workers.

Yurts would be expandable pods, for families, like a flower design from above

[-] 2 points by gsw (2697) 2 months ago

I'm not an economist

I don't know if we will need to end capitalism

It could fade on its own in a two track model, with worker control of production, and government sponsoring the turnover to workers.

The chomsky interview speaks to high speed trains, that could be produced here, employ many. A few key industries such as solar, do the solar road. sorry my link doesn't work, search solar road in google. http://www.solarroadways.com/intro.shtml

Really? well then - I can not wait for the site owner to get back from vacation to let her know how faithful and effective you have been - though my experience here has been short.

[-] 0 points by shooz (-6) from Detroit, MI 2 months ago

Are you in a special education program? My brother also has a learning disability. A kind of autism. He asks a lot of impertinent questions, and makes vacuous comments.

[-] 2 points by questioning (21) 2 months ago

Are you related to shortnfatnnasty? That is so interesting. Do you guide him in his explorations of the internet?

So do you have a theory of how these old folks in their rockers were able to out fox jart and seize the code?

as if it needs repeating....bullshit

[-] 1 points by veritablevegitable (17) 2 months ago

I am not the only one questioning this shortnfatnnasty individual? Good. I was beginning to wonder if this place had anything to do with protesting corruption and criminality. I will have to take a longer look at this place now. Has it always been as dysfunctional as it seems to be right now?

[-] 1 points by flip (7002) 2 months ago

hey man - you seem very reasonable and sympathetic to the goals of ows. i have been here a long time and there are too many here - still - that just want us to spin our wheels. they either support the democratic party or just want to sow confusion and disrupt discussions. do not waste your time - that is my advice - although i do not always follow that myself! the short fat one has been here from the beginning under different names and is a complete ass from what i can see - the only thing i am sure about is that he is short fat and stupid - by that i mean that he is educated and thinks he is smart but but doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground! i used to go to zuccotti park when it was occupied. what a great place - this cannot compare. there were debates all over the park on every type of subject - with every type of opinion. the one thing you could not do is try to disrupt or spout bullshit - those in the debate would not tolerate it. they were truly interested in looking for answers and trying to get to some sort of truth about things. very cool discussions and no bs - not so here. my advice for finding out who is who here is to ask simple pointed questions - especially about the failings of the democratic party. if you get an answer worth the question you have found one of the good ones here. if some sort of spinning comes back - something about the gop or koch brothers - run away!

[-] 3 points by gsw (2697) 2 months ago

Yea. What are the Dems doing for minimum wage, job creation,

They are also for the one percent, though they give. Some lip service

Edit many users got tired, I feel, of hearing the same lines, and of being called some label, so they were tired of talking to idiots, and left voluntarily

[-] 2 points by flip (7002) 2 months ago

still some of that going on - i have left for long periods because of that

I just read your last line here, really? you openly discourage people from even discussing the Royals? you are such a TOADY

[-] 1 points by flip (7002) 2 months ago

it has been very clear for a long time now that your reading comprehension skills are VERY poor. i feel sorry for you on that subject. my advise is not to advertise your failings so often. seems you spelling and writing skills are ok - too bad you have nothing to say

[-] 0 points by factsrfun (6667) from Phoenix, AZ 2 months ago

you who have never read a bad word about the GOP questions my comprehension, you are a HOOT

[-] 1 points by flip (7002) 2 months ago

i am pretty funny sometimes - especially after hockey with a couple of beers in me. i often tell the boys stories of how i got banned and some of the silly little boys who are now on ows. it is a pretty sharp group of hockey players politically - as hockey players go. just to be clear - you do not know what i read - you know what i write here but no way to know what i read. that is pretty obvious to anyone. i am just trying to help you look less stupid

[-] 0 points by factsrfun (6667) from Phoenix, AZ 2 months ago

By standing next to me? That should work, most anyone would look like a genius standing next to you.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (6667) from Phoenix, AZ 2 months ago

flip we can always count on you to raise forces against the enemies of the GOP, your tireless efforts to defend the GOP are truly legendary

[-] 1 points by flip (7002) 2 months ago

boring and predictable

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (6667) from Phoenix, AZ 2 months ago

yes they are "boring and predictable" but also legendary

[-] 1 points by flip (7002) 2 months ago

so i say your comments are boring and predictable - which they clearly are and you say they are legendary. no hope - coming to the park on the 17th - should be some good discussions - i would like to see how your antics work with a crowd of serious people listening

[-] 0 points by factsrfun (6667) from Phoenix, AZ 2 months ago

I thought we were talking of your support for the GOP, that IS legendary, my bad.

oh OK you used the "serious" word go ahead right here right now tell us why was it better to vote for Nader instead of Gore even if it meant getting Bush, explain, I'm serious let's see if you can be

[-] -1 points by factsrfun (6667) from Phoenix, AZ 2 months ago

flip you should glance down this thread, from the "remove" above isn't that an interesting read, I wonder who was so full of bullshit I forget

[-] 0 points by factsrfun (6667) from Phoenix, AZ 2 months ago

hmmm, this is an internet forum, I don't really spend time on others this was my first forum and continues to be where I choose to share content, I would say I find it to be about as functional as most forums, What exactly did you expect?

I say either clean up the trolls or take down the forum. It does more harm than good the way it is. People come here, see the flame wars and leave. If we can't make a good impression for OWS, then we shouldn't make any impression at all.

[-] 2 points by gsw (2697) 2 months ago

I will not like this valuable informative hub of free information and visitors to loose the access.

I wonder could site be programmed to ban moniker accounts that receive a negative 8 comment, ban for a month

Try to admonish the repeat flame warriors, identify their tactics, refer to the forum policies

Maybe utilize cone of shame

I would not like informative valuable site to be stopped, and I agree-- the good impression for OWS should be a enhanced through this site

This is a terrible example, but one that works. Stormfront has very tight moderation. They don’t put up with any BS. If you attack other posters you will get banned. As with any web forum Stormfront members disagree and argue all the time. But the difference is there are no personal attacks. Flame wars are focused on the topic, not the person. They also block by IP address and do not allow multiple ID’s. The mods are tough and don’t put up with trolls for very long.

I can speak from experience because I troll Stormfront. I’ve had probably ten ID’s on the site. It doesn’t take them long to figure out you are trolling and ban you. No, I'm not a Stormfront believer. I just like messing with them.

[-] 0 points by shooz (-6) from Detroit, MI 2 months ago

That's great, but you need dedicated mods.

Jart doesn't want to put the time, yet she doesn't want to cede control to others. She did cede it for awhile, but she made the horrible choice of ceding moderation to the Twinkle Team infiltrators.

Would you be willing to put a lot of hours each day into moderating this site? If so, I think you should find others also. For a team. Perhaps you, shadz, Renney, gnomunny. Honest people. Perhaps 4 or 5 willing to dedicate many hours a week to this place.

When you have your team, make a proposition to jart. Perhaps she will agree and make you guys mods.

[-] 1 points by MattHolck0 (1710) 2 months ago

thanks

sorry for the drama

but the old "they'll call me" when I have finally shown myself worthy wears thin after 10 years of internet presence

[-] 2 points by gsw (2697) 2 months ago

I am not interested in suppressing anyone who has a voice, and no bad intent.

BradB thinks it can be done quite simply. https://occupywallst.org/forum/stoping-bots-is-easy/

Most anyone is easy to ignore, after you are sufficiently annoyed by them. If you ignore them, they ignore you, I have experienced,

I have not met any who I think should be banned. Some who are too personally annoying, just agree to disagree, your head is your filter.

I don't think jart had banned those users, but some of them had violated some of the forum rules with language, so I am not sure I would disagree with a temporary ban based on foul language or obscene ideology

If there is a way to filter certain people at the site, I don't see the real use of that, just ignore them is the same result

Edit I appreciated this post https://occupywallst.org/forum/its-time-to-act-and-its-urgent-chris-hedges-interv/

I prefer to read and post where a non-member would see it

filters won't show me the context of posting in

[-] 1 points by gsw (2697) 2 months ago

the site could be more interesting in theory, could attract more users too,

There are times I would have liked to filter a couple users, and this could have fixed some problems for some individuals.

Agree, unfortunately, you are correct. I might be really hard to remove disgruntled old man squabbling from this place. Lots of retired folks. It's imbedded in the culture of this forum.
