Where are all of the feminist on this Board?

Ann Romney’s debut on Twitter couldn’t have come at a more opportune time.

Ann’s first tweet came just moments after Democratic strategist and DNC adviser Hilary Rosen lobbed an insult at Ann Romney, suggesting that the 64-year-old mother of five and grandmother of 16 had never held a job.

“Guess what, his wife has actually never worked a day in her life,” said Rosen, who was being interviewed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper about the “war on women.”

And then, just like that, a familiar name popped up on Twitter: @AnnDRomney.

“I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work,” Ann tweeted.

The Romney campaign confirmed to ABC News that the account belongs to Ann Romney.

Mrs. Romney then went on Fox News this morning to address the controversy, defending her career choice and highlighting the struggles she’s faced.

“She should have come to my house when those five boys were causing so much trouble,” Mrs. Romney said, laughing. “It wasn’t so easy.”

“My career choice was to be a mother,” she said of a job she dubbed an “awesome responsibility.” “And I think all of us need to know that we need to respect choices that women make. Other women make other choices to have a career and raise family, which I think Hilary Rosen has actually done herself. I respect that, that’s wonderful. But you know, there are other people that have a choice, we have to respect women in all those choices that they make.”

Mrs. Romney, who has multiple sclerosis and survived breast cancer, acknowledged that while she may not have struggled financially as much as others have, she has faced hardships.

“I can tell you and promise you that I’ve had struggles in my life. And I would love to have people understand that Mitt and I have compassion for people that are struggling,” she said. “That’s why we’re running.”

Her tweet came Wednesday night just as husband wrapped up a second day of campaigning that all but entirely focused on the “war against women,” packing events with female business leaders and accusing the Obama administration’s economic policies of hurting women.

Several high-profile Democrats condemned Rosen’s remarks and even First Lady Michelle Obama tweeted, “Every mother works hard, and every woman deserves to be respected.”

“I could not disagree with Hilary Rosen any more strongly. Her comments were wrong and family should be off limits. She should apologize,” Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said in a tweet.

Top Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod also tweeted his disapproval: “Also Disappointed in Hilary Rosen’s comments about Ann Romney. They were inappropriate and offensive.”

Following the interview, Rosen herself tweeted, “I’ve nothing against @AnnRomney. I just don’t want Mitt using her as an expert on women struggling $ to support their family. She isn’t.”

Rosen kept tweeting, not appearing to back off of her comments.

“@AnnDRomney Please know, I admire you. But your husband shouldn’t say you are his expert on women and the economy,” said Rosen.

Then Rosen offered a welcome message to Mrs. Romney, tweeting, “oh and @AnnDRomney welcome to Twitter. You will find it a very exhilarating and often unforgiving place!”

In her own cable news interview this morning, Rosen didn’t apologize for her remarks and instead welcomed the attacks.

“This isn’t about whether Ann Romney or I work. Other women of some means can afford to make a choice to stay at home and raise kids,” said Rosen on CNN. “Most women in America, let’s face it, don’t have that choice. They have to be working moms and home moms and that’s the piece that I am not hearing from the Romney camp. Instead everybody’s attacking me, that’s fine. Attack me. But it does not erase his woeful record on this issue.”

Honestly, I must be getting old, how could I miss
such an obvious LIE from such an obvious lying Rs

"Democrats Attack Ann Romney" - FYI plural means at least two.
Rosen did not ATTACK Ann - she told the truth.
But - WHO IS THE SECOND DEMOCRAT ?
Or do you have the courage to tell the truth?

Terry O'Neil.

If I said that, you all would be hurling moral outrages at me.

Don't worry, I'm an atheist, we're disliked more than terrorists (we're the ultimate minority in this country, so believe me, I've taken more than my share of bashing). But anyway, it was in poor taste (taken care of).

Poor Ann it must be so hard to have a life filled with such hardship.Just what is a poor millionairess to do these days. What with all the occupy riff raft Raising questions about my mittens off shore tax havens and what not.

This type of juvenile mud-slinging crap does not even deserve this conversation but I'm going to respond with my thoughts anyhoo. It is truly pathetic that Ann Romney even responded to Rosen's comments. This is all so high schoolish. Whether I like Ann or not or believe she's a good mom or not shouldn't even matter to her ( shouldn't really matter to me either unless she's my mom). We all know she hires nanny's and caterers and any ole thing she wants and that's the way it is because she can afford to do that and that's all she knows. I know middle class average women who put their kids in daycare all week and then again on the weekends so they can have a day off to clean their houses, pay their bills and visit the supermarket. If anything, I think maybe we should be addressing that issue and not what Ann Romney does.

For our president to have to take time out of his day to publicly address this issue is even more ridiculous and we whine that the government is too involved in our personal lives? No wonder Washington is so dysfunctional having to babysit a nation of dysfunctional histrionics that thrive on " Nancy Grace" style circus sideshows.

That said, Ann Romney did make a comment once that did illustrate that she wasn't exactly in touch with the plight of the average American. She was commenting on how she could relate to being stressed out about being poor told the story of how she and Mitt were so poor at one time that they almost had to liquidate some of their portfolios. I chuckled...Portfolio? What's that?

[-] -3 points by Jflynn1964 (-206) 11 years ago

Maybe you could try to save some money and you would have a portfolio. Stop buying big screen TVs and forego a good and invest it. That's how wealthy people do it.

[-] 2 points by JadedGem (895) 11 years ago

Its incredibly naive of you to think that a few meager stocks are going to do much for you. Most people will let others invest their 401ks or hire someone. They will be one of many of little accounts. And when some huge investor who chose risky investments for hopefully greater rewards needs to sell that soon to sink stock, who do you think will buy it up and take the losses? Small investors are sheep to shear. Want to do something for yourself? Get a mason jar and a shovel if you can't find a local credit union.

[-] 0 points by Jflynn1964 (-206) 11 years ago

Your probably right in that the individual investor has a hard time competing against professionals in the marketplace. So yes I agree saving money at the locla credit union or putting it under your mattress will help. But the idea is that save or invest your money will benefit you as you are foregoing consumption now for it later.

[-] 1 points by Gillian (1842) 11 years ago

In all truth, I am probably one of the most frugal, non-trending people you could ever meet. ( I would have been glad to be an Amish farmer but that didn't work out for me). I'm still wearing my LLBean shirts and jeans from 15 years ago. My tv is over 20 years old and I really don't need it at all except during hurricanes. I put what I would normally pay for health insurance into my savings and that's all I can afford to save and that's really pushing the limit. I work 7 days a week, haven't had a vacation since 1982 and don't really care actually. The last movie I saw was in 1984 ( at a theater). I do go to the theater every so often for other events though. I like my lifestyle but most people would not. I don't even own a microwave and I don't eat in restaurants.

[-] -1 points by Jflynn1964 (-206) 11 years ago

Congratulations, that's great. I wish more people did the same.

ABSOULUTLY DISGUSTING LIE!

Hilary Rosen does not work for the DNC or Obama

Just another foxian twist of the truth into a lie.
NO honest person believed "no job" meant no parenting or no homework.

[-] 1 points by dantes443322 (148) 11 years ago

But visits Obama at the WhiteHouse 35+ times just to hang out. Yep, that's what I think. Just chums.

[-] 1 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

how many reporters ( which she is ) visit the White House ?

[-] -1 points by Jflynn1964 (-206) 11 years ago

She gets the campaign memos telling her what to say and how to spin. Don't kid yourself. It's not a coincidence that she said it the same week that Obama is touting his efforts for women. He should stop spending our money flying around the country.

It is a tough life deciding what nanny will take which child for the day.Poor Ann it must have been quite the ordeal.

[-] 1 points by dantes443322 (148) 11 years ago

She didn't have nannies for the children. If I am mistaken, can you please post a link where it proves she did?

[-] 0 points by Dell (-168) 11 years ago

yea - and the Obama's had it real rough too I am sure.

[-] 1 points by freehorseman (267) from Miles City, Mt 11 years ago

Was this about O'Drama or Ms.Mittens?

[-] 0 points by Dell (-168) 11 years ago

It is about the Obama admin making fun of Ann Romney for being fortunate. As if they aren't 1 percenters themselves.

[-] 1 points by freehorseman (267) from Miles City, Mt 11 years ago

If it makes you feel better attack the o'dramas.I would think that you would have better things to worry about than what one percenter said about another.Than again some people are real sensitive when it comes to there percieved leaders.

[-] 0 points by Dell (-168) 11 years ago

they are just trying to distract us from the real catastrophe.

[-] 1 points by freehorseman (267) from Miles City, Mt 11 years ago

And the real catastrophe is that you pay attention to a non issue and defend it to fulfill your neoliberal agenda. But you do get paid to make an ass out of yourself.

Are you making fun of her? Are you saying that woman who are home makers do not deserve your respect?

[-] 1 points by freehorseman (267) from Miles City, Mt 11 years ago

No are you.Do not tell me that Ann was darning socks.moping floors and baking cookies while ol Mittens was out slashing jobs for America.

[-] 0 points by Jflynn1964 (-206) 11 years ago

So now it matters what job she does?

[-] 1 points by freehorseman (267) from Miles City, Mt 11 years ago

She did nothing more than be a womb.

What makes you think that this woman had any kind of job.She had children. Then she had servants take care of them. Her job was as an accessory.

[-] 1 points by Demian (497) from San Francisco, CA 11 years ago

Why are you all even commenting on this theater? This is just a distraction from real issues

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

A ( notice singular ) Democrat attacked Ms. Mittens.

It was not a very well thought out attack - but still had it's merits.

Sure she is female sure she has a nasty illness.

None of which makes her an authority on women in the workplace.

As far as understanding the realities of the day? Her lifestyle really could not remove her much further from the reality of everyday working women.

Ms. Mitten is as far out of touch with understanding the major portion of this population as Mr. Mitten. They have no concept. Period.

[-] -1 points by Jflynn1964 (-206) 11 years ago

No one said she was an authority but she has done a very nice job of raising good clean kids. So in my book, she is pretty good. Maybe she should be divorced having a kid out of wedlock for you to respect her.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Wah! Wah! Wah! Really? REALLY?

If you listened to Rosen, you knew that she was talking about working outside the home. She apologized.

And no, Ann has no idea what it is like to work outside the home and have children. That doesn't mean that it isn't work to be a SAHM. However, she cannot relate to the women that do. At all. In fact, Mitt Romney looks more like a dumb ass than he did before.

[-] 1 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

But you know Ann -
she works outside the house - shopping in Paris and London and
she's always pinching pennies to save money for her children.
To a total of 10,000,000,000 pennies. {struth}
Come on! She only has two Cadillacs.
No wonder she is forced to install an elevator for her cars.
Just like all of us struggling Americans trying to pay bills.

I am kind of attached to here myself. There should be a little "edit" in blue at the top of your post so you could correct this.

[-] 1 points by PandoraK (1678) 11 years ago

How nice to take this out of context! Millions of mothers who work outside the home and STILL work damned hard at raising families, never quite making the Supermom status or Mother of the Year...

Yet when a statement is made that is true, Mrs. Romney did not work outside the home, it's claimed as an attack?

Jeez, can't anyone find something a bit more real to complain about?

Such an attack!
Just because it is true - if you read it the way it was meant.
Just like Allen West - one of Congress's, um, special people. The freshman tea partier and former Army colonel has criticized President Obama for traveling to Afghanistan in the middle of the night because it wasn't life-threatening enough. He has claimed that Muslim congressman Keith Ellison "represent[s] the antithesis of the principles upon which this country was established." He has warned that those "Coexist" bumper stickers will lead to the downfall of America. During his 2010 campaign for Congress, he told his followers to "make [Democratic congressman Ron Klein] scared to come out of his house." He was fined by the military for intimidating an Iraqi policeman he suspected of terrorist ties by firing a gun next to his head and threatening to kill him. You would think that, as fond as he is of doling out baseless accusations and physical threats, West could handle a little criticism from a Democratic colleague.

But he can't- West sent this e-mail, regarding fellow Florida representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, to party leaders and Wasserman Schultz herself :

Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. You are the most vile, unprofessional ,and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up. Focus on your own congressional district!
I am bringing your actions today to our Majority Leader and Majority Whip and from this time forward, understand that I shall defend myself forthright against your heinous characterless behavior……which dates back to the disgusting protest you ordered at my campaign hqs, October 2010 in Deerfield Beach.
You have proven repeatedly that you are not a Lady, therefore, shall not be afforded due respect from me!

AND NOW HE AND JOE MCCARTHY CLAIM THERE ARE 80 COMMUNIST PARTY MEMBERS IN THE US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Sir - have you no decency ?

[-] -1 points by Jflynn1964 (-206) 11 years ago

It's true that Ann Romney hasn't worked hard at being a good Mom. In my book they both are very successful in raising their family and in their professional lives. Why you want to attack that I don't know.

Maybe she should be divorced, have a kid out of wedlock, and be on the dole, That way you can like her.

Amazing how only Liberal women's families are off limits. No one attacks women faster or more cruelly than other women(liberal). As a life long Democrat, Husband and father of a wonderful daughter, I am ashamed that Rosen is a Democrat.

[-] 1 points by JadedGem (895) 11 years ago

I'll agree feminists have a tendency to treat housewives like second class citizens and it needs to stop. Your value as woman shouldn't be determined by your earning potential or even by the number and perceived quality of your offspring. Its merely that you are a human-being and as such deserve not to be dehumanized in a wide variety of ways.

[-] 0 points by Blank102 (86) from American Canyon, CA 11 years ago

Only certain kinds of women are protected by feminists.
