Forum Post: deleting comments

Isn't deleting someone comments a form of censorship and abuse of power. Aren't we all equals with the right to be heard and express our opinion?

Yes, it is censorship. For some people( groups) tolerance works as long as you agree with them.

Zoeoz70, happy, and yesterday others but I did not think that they would be scrubbed so I don't have names, just missing comments. Please add your name to the list icou feel that you were removed without reason, no trolls or porn links please!

I will simplify lt and repost 2 of the forum rules(copy paste from the ows forum rules. I along with at least 3 others lost their account for no reason other than asking clarifying questions and digressing when I felt it would further open discussion between those who are part of the mathematical 99 %, but not sure if they want to be part of OWS and the 99% they claim to be. As a scientific being I am not going to support a movement based on no hardplatform! We all are disenfranchised in some way, but If it I allowed my "id" to control me, I can't imagine the outcome. I am the adult child of far left civil rights movement parents. My father is a lifetime protester. I have a varied enough background to see that if a burgeoning movement does not allow for dissention internally, actively turning away similar supportive groups if they have any agenda other than the yet to be disclosed OWS agenda. This is to childish and selfish to succeed. I am expecting the usual questions on how can I feel the pain. I raised 3 children in NYC, quite liberally. I was rendered jobless post 9/11 and was injured very seriously in a separate incident. I was uninsured and spent what was set away for my kids. I am homebound disabled as I gave up most comforts so my kids could have a chance. My studio in one of the poorest areas of nyc is$800 for 150 square feet. I live on disability $760 a month. So if I am not part of the 99% who is? Below are the forum rules. I was visually assaulted by porn on multiple times yesterday. I was removed but the porn stayed. OWS is a bunch of kids who can afford to live in tents that cost more than I receive from disability after 15 years of taxes. This smells wrong!

BIG?..... Who chooses the entire concept of a high content post? Why is this not being addressed as censorship? Ironically on a site based on dissent.

  1. No Platform. Conspiracy theories, including any attempt to spam material by David Icke, Lyndon LaRouche, David Duke or Alex Jones, will be removed immediately and the spammer will receive a swift global network ban. Fascist propaganda (including any attempt to spam these four people again), will be treated with the similar actions. In that we are very specific about what fascism is: the word has a meaning.

  2. Stay On target. Off topic posts, low content posts, worthless posts, bumping, etc, will be moderated and removed. Repeat posting of the same off topic posts and spamming of links that have nothing to do with the subject at hand (case in point the Dylan bullshit) will be banned outright. Similarly posters who constantly post off-topic nonsense are straddling the line very close to a ban. We do not support an election campaign for 2012. At all. We have removed election material for Obama, Paul, Warren, Paul, Cain, Paul, Perry, Paul, the green party, Paul, Nader, Paul, and did I mention Paul? The spamming by the Ron Lawl 2012 fan cluatb was getting out of hand. We will continue to remove such material and any call for the Paul 2012 campaign will, at this point, be considered spamming. End of. We're tired of hearing about it. Main street debates are also largely off topic.

Does the point system have anything to do with it? I've had comments disappear and I have no idea why. But I noticed in one post that commenters names were still listed but they had minus 4 pts and their comments were gone. Here: http://occupywallst.org/forum/fdrs-2nd-bill-of-rights-should-be-the-demands-of-t/ The two names at the bottom.

I commented there: "Where are MikeyD's and whisper's comments? 'Poo flinging monkey' trolls should be banned, but anyone fit to comment here should have their comments appear. I remember whisper's comment, I didn't agree with it, but it wasn't dishonest or obstructionist.

Is it the point system? But that would make the board a popularity contest."

Today alone I've had one comment deleted (userid: Careful) in the guerilla gardening thread where I said to be wary of heavy metals in the ground and to plant potatoes first as a filter before planting crops for consumption.

My account Eco was locked from commenting, and one of my comments in the food boycott had 14 'points'.

My account OWSCensorsMe was locked after a single comment in the 'pay mothers a living wage' post where I said I would not support such a cause, especially with taxpayer dollars.

I'm wondering now how long this censorship and self-serving moderation will continue. This is my third account today.

I wish we would be able to vote up and down threads since half this crap on here is propaganda against OWS.

[-] 1 points by screwtheman (122) 12 years ago

So if it is against your belief it's propaganda?

[-] 1 points by GreedKills (1119) 12 years ago

Most of what is posted here is against OWS is twisted BS from sources such as the NY Post and Fox News, which I have researched and found false.

There are plenty of sites where you can toss your propaganda back and forth to each other. I suggest you go to Prison Planet or the Alex Jones Channel if you find Fox boring.

The two names at the bottom still have their comments. Just click on the little [+] at the left of the names. I guess this thread is about nothing then.

[-] 1 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

Not at all. Comments do disappear. The question is why. Thanks for testing the theory, my bad. We need another theory now.

[-] 0 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 12 years ago

Most probably because they breach the forum rules. Have you read those rules?

[-] 1 points by frankharris (17) 12 years ago

go post it on youbube!

[-] 1 points by NYprotester (80) 12 years ago

Yes, but not here. Get use to the new Nazi movement code named OWS.

I did read the rules and it says I can post here as long as I agree with people. If I don't agree then I am basically a troll.

[-] 1 points by aahpat (1407) 12 years ago

And a paranoid troll as well by the sound of it.

[-] 0 points by Rob (881) 12 years ago

well, that's your opinion.

[-] 1 points by screwtheman (122) 12 years ago

So why are peoples comments here being deleted. I thought OWS was about equality.

[-] 0 points by Rob (881) 12 years ago

All people are equal, but some are more equal than others.

[-] -1 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 12 years ago

We all have the right to read and express opinions. When a spammer copy/pastes his comments and/or links a zillion times over, that assaults my right to read as the forum gets flooded and harder to follow. Write good comments, and they won't be erased. Mine haven't, and I troll more than Mike Tyson on his worse days. Don't forget, the forum is made up of writers AND READERS.

[-] 1 points by screwtheman (122) 12 years ago

NO, you like to control what is on here for others to read. If it doesn't support OWS you delete it.

[-] -1 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 12 years ago

How do I delete it? I'm not a moderator. You don't believe readers have a right too?

[-] 1 points by screwtheman (122) 12 years ago

No, but the mods are.

Even the rules say not to post opposing views.

[-] -1 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 12 years ago

Where does it say you cannot post opposing views in the rules? Most of my posts are opposing views, and I never had a problem.

[-] 1 points by screwtheman (122) 12 years ago

In the rules for posting it says that opposing views is the same as trolling.

[-] -1 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 12 years ago

I just read the rules. It doesn't say that. Again, what rule are you talking about? Are you just making stuff up? What type of stuff did you post that got deleted?

[-] 1 points by screwtheman (122) 12 years ago

I've never had stuff deleted, however I have seen where things have been removed.

[-] -1 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 12 years ago

Do you know why they were removed?

Again, what rule stipulates that you cannot post opposing views? There is none. You are just making stuff up. And yes, making stuff up is not accepted and can be deleted.
