If you're sick??

So what!!

You don't need a job.

On Friday Governor Rick Scott of Florida signed a bill that would block local governments in the state from passing any kind of mandatory paid-sick time measures. In a statement Rick Scott said:

“This bill fosters statewide uniformity,

consistency and predictability in Florida’s employer-employee relationships.

These fundamental elements are essential to ensuring a business-friendly environment that supports job creation.”

"Real Americans" don't need no sick days??

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 10 years ago

That's pretty much it.

Health care in Florida is SO good under Scott's guidance that anyone claiming to be ill MUST be faking it. So that time comes off their vacation comp time.

Unfortunately?

This "law" is what's truly sick.

why do only people with jobs get health benefits ?

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

I guess you'd have to move to Florida and find out.

Just don't expect any paid sick days.

Florida has three major problems. People come down to retire and then get involved politics because they don't want to pay taxes. So, selling business is important. Problem two is a power struggle between local and state. It's a nationwide problem. Oddly enough, the dimwits that do the most screaming about state rights and decentralization of power are silent.

Florida is not a pro-people state. It has never been a pro worker state. In fact, they have no problem hiring undocumented workers if you don't like what they are selling.

It's just another way to be divorced from reality.

The ones that are pulling it off can afford to be divorced from reality. They don't live in the real world. Rick Scott is little more than a hired thug.

Welcome to the World that ALEC built.

Just pretend not to notice, as they spread their "clients" legislation around the country, and around the World..

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 10 years ago

That's pretty much it. Ya, it's a little hard not to notice considering that they are at every turn.

Acts of civil disobedience that involve only a few hundred will not challenge the economic elite and their political policies by themselves, even if led by the unions. Such acts are easily contained by the cops and courts, and can, consequently, result in demoralization. Rather than being side-tracked by such tactics, Labor must seek to educate and mobilize its own membership, in alliance with other grass roots organizations, on the issues that affect all workers. That is, Labor must spare no costs in building an independent social movement by mobilizing tens of thousands to get out into the streets. - See more at: http://www.occupy.com/article/defeating-right-work#sthash.Gvg0aXTc.dpuf

people want to make investments that give greater return

government through tax money provides a source of money to private business

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

Then by all means, place your "investment money" there.

I don't have any to worry about.

Work sick!!

It's what ALEC wants!!

Spread some disease today!!!

It's the conservative way.

Plus all those sick folks put more pressure on "Obamacare", and you know how they hate that.

Besides if they die on the job - the employer probably has an insurance policy on the worker that will pay more then if the worker died at home.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

Yep, and they'll likely find a way to fire that sick worker, just for being sick.

You know, failure to do ones job duty, because he's dripping snot all over his workstation!!!!!

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Not to worry - right to work gives them the right to fire "for no cause".

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

Yep, and they'll dock his last check for "snot cleanup".

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Or for making them ( employer ) let them ( worker ) go without providing a notice.

You Know damn well you should of told us in advance that you were planning to be sick - we had to find a replacement "after" letting you go - now that is damned inconvenient - and avoidable had you just let us know in advance.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

Good old ALEC. Advancing libe(R)topia, whether you want it or not.
