"conservative 99% candidates" what the hell? We should have known that at some point, conservative movers and shakers would try to co-opt the OWS for conservatives.

Dear Michael Pollock/99%Declaration: Since you and your conservative lawyers have announced the 99%Declaration group will now be running conservative candidates in conservative districts to save the dying Republican/Conservative Party, Occupy America Online and the OWS New York is now your official adversary.

Make no mistake about it.

You should be ashamed of yourselves for viciously misleading all the good, sincere Occupiers who comprise your group. That's my first thought about the new 99%Declaration policy of adopting conservatism and running conservatives "for the 99" in conservative districts.

The platform you posted on your new 99% Declaration website has nothing to do with conservatism whatsoever, yet you have announced you are running "conservative 99% candidates"...I had to stop writing for a moment because I threw up a bit just writng the phrase, "conservative 99% candidates."

Clearly you are attempting to keep conservatism alive by inserting "conservative 99% candidates" into the OWS movement.

Michael Pollock, you may fool some of the Occupiers in your group, but the truth will come out soon enough, once people take a look into the 99%Declaration group running conservative candidates on a truly liberal platform. As a true liberal myself, I find that more than offensive and downright dirty for you to try to mislead and abuse Occupiers that way. Sickening and disgusting.

Clearly you and the other conservatives running the 99%Declaration group devised a way to keep the Republican Party alive by "re-inventing" and injecting conservatism into the 99% by funding, supporting and running conservative candidates in conservative districts.

CONSERVATIVES DO NOT SUPPORT THE NON-CONSERVATIVE PLATFORM YOU POSTED ON YOUR 99%DECLARATION WEBSITE.

I wrote the platform long ago on my websites, but I would never, ever in a million years support conservatism by injecting it into my group, Occupy America Online.

What about the consensus-building process you have rejected in favor of running conservative candidates?

Where's the Consensus-building in your group? You can't have consensus building in your group; that's why you eliminated (never did adopt and implement consensus building) consensus building from the 99%Declaration group agenda/policy.

Can I have a copy of the consensus vote the 99%Declaration held on deciding to run conservative candidates as a "conservative 99% candidate?"

Oh that's right: there was no consensus vote or consensus building process when Mr. 99% M. Pollock and his conservative lawyers who own the 99%Declaration group decided to dictate to the unsuspecting Occupiers that their group was now adopting a policy of running "conservative 99% candidates" for the 99%Declaration group.

Incredible.

Some conservative lawyers in your group apparently came up with what they believed to be a brilliant method to keep conservatism alive by quietly and undemocratically inserting conservatism and even conservative candidates into the 99% OWS movement.

YOU ARE BUSTED, HERE AND NOW AND EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY THAT YOU CONTINUE TO PAWN YOURSELF OFF AS PART OF THE OWS MOVEMENT.

THE99%DECLARATION GROUP IS NOW PART AND PARCEL OF THE DYING CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT.

THESE ARE FACTS EVIDENCED BY THEIR POLICY STATEMENT HERE:

If the Petition for Redress of Grievances is ignored by the 113th Congress, the President and Supreme Court, the 876 Delegates will organize a grass roots recruiting drive in all 435 districts for independent candidates that we will support to vote OUT all 435 House Reps and all 33 Senators up for election in 2014. This will not be a new "third party" per se, rather we will run conservative independents in Republican districts and moderates and liberals in Democratic districts so that every incumbent is removed and no Democrat or Republican gets into congress in 2014. This is their last chance to listen to the 99%.

Thus, if the July 4, 2012 Petition falls on deaf ears, it will be our mission to replace every single career politician in Washington, D.C., regardless of party so that the changes demanded by the National General Assembly WILL be implemented in the 114th congress. There are sane conservatives and sane liberals who care about this country who can work together if money is taken out of politics.

So this is it then for us, is it? Back to the same old party political politics? Only this time our politicians will somehow be different, because somehow they'll be 'better people'? And we'll just forget all those daft notions of direct democracy or anything at all that improves the democratic model of the country?

Seems like lots of folks who have barely ever set foot in an occupation think that our focus on direct democracy is is now holding us back enough that it needs to be ditched for more 'effective methods'. Yet look at how much we have achieved with these truly democratic methods so far in a few short months. Look at the solidarity we have for each other. Look at how effective we have been.

Some folk are getting greedy, just like the bankers. Greedy for faster 'results', greedy for more power for the movement. In the process, they are deciding that the end does justify the means after all. Yet in a world where there is never, ever, truly an ending - surely it's always ongoing - where does that philosophy lead us when we disgard our principles?

If this proposed 99% policial party ends up consuming the movement in the United States, we will become nothing more than another version of the Tea Party, which if you follow your recent history was bought out at any early stage, pacified, managed, and consumed by the elite for its own purposes.

Oh but I'm forgetting. It isn't the system that's wrong at all. It's only that the people in it need to be better. Sure. It's that simple.

Nice post, OAO, btw. Cheers for this. I have serious concerns about the folk who now seem to be leading the 99% Declaration. Even more so now that I've been trying to engage them on forums. Hostile. Duplicitous. Not at all open to a civilised discussion. We should all be deeply concerned about this campaign supposedly running in our name.

He doesn't have to be as full of shit as you're claiming he is. There are large chunks of America where running a modern liberal for a certain district simply is not going to work no matter how hard you campaign or how much money you pour into said liberal, and attempts to do so will result in a guaranteed victory for the Republican incumbent of that district.

Run a center-right individual against the establishment and Tea Party people and base your campaign around the "he's not bought by big money" argument, and you stand a decent chance of success. I would run center-right individuals in Republican districts, two candidates (one per primary, with a planned walkover for the Democrat should the two meet in the general election) in swing districts, and modern progressives in the liberal districts. If you do that then you'll be able to get a cohesive enough bloc of solid progressives and center-right moderates that things should actually start getting done.
