What exactly is the essence of common sense? Why is this held as a high virtue? Why are those who lack it verbally berated in American Society? Let's say it is a high virtue and necessary to have. If one realizes one does not have it how does one gain it?

If ideas that are considered common sense can be proven unsound and uncogent then why is common sense truly sound and cogent in of itself? Why is common sense considered a reliable tool if the tool itself is always changing or improving?

This is why I believe common sense can faulty sometimes. When I was 17 I went for my permit so I could learn how to drive. I thought the knowledge in the drivers manual would be common sense. If I did not have that thought I would've actually studied the manual. I would've passed the permit test the first time and had my license sooner. This taught me not to assume common sense and check to make sure that I had sound information.

"Common Sense" is a very misleading idea.

It is very tempting to rely on common sense, but the chance that the common sense is misleading remains. Common sense is unique for everyone. Something that makes sense for someone may not make sense for some others. SO, in reality, common sense is nothing more than someone else's opinion period.

Essentially, this common sense is same damn thing that gets people to cloud their heads with nonsense and somehow believe it's the undeniable truth. It's where these narratives find their creation, they all fit because, after all, it's common sense (or common knowledge).

This post goes to heart of what all posts try to get to. The truth. But it's anything but common. Don't forget it! You must work hard to find it. There's no simple common truth. That's a myth.

Some parts of some cities are considered unsafe. If a person goes into an unsafe area they would be considered as having a lack of common sense. My question is this. Why is this so? Why is the person who goes into this unsafe area considered a pariah and an object of derision? Why wouldn't we consider the area unsafe and make the area safe to go in? Why wouldn't the criminals who do the victimizing be the pariah and an object of derision? Why wouldn't the idea that this area is unsafe be a pariah and an object of derision as well?

common sense is perpetuated by the people

as in not anyone's sense but common sense among the people

Just because the masses believe something is true does not mean it actually is true. This is a fallacy of the appeal to popularity or the masses.

What is accepted today is that planets and planetoids revolve around their center of gravities.
