I am actually backpacking from around the world and have changed my flights so I will be in NYC for the protest. Does anybody know where I can convert the new Zealand dollar to the us dollar ? Not sure if there are places to do that near the site.

If there is a place in the world ripe for exchanging currency, it is Lower Manhattan.

At the risk of sounding ironic, I should convert my currency at a wall street firm then go protest it?

Wait...are you saying that the NY financial district provides a service that is useful? Interesting.

haha, well what else are you going to do? Unless you can somehow get by without spending any money (which may be possible, come to think of it...if enough people are willing to share food with you). Anyway, I wasn't saying use a wall street firm...I doubt any wall street firm provides such services anyway, not on that level... in the same vein, the point could be made that you are supporting these firms and their standards by flying commercially, by entering the U.S., by using currency at all....just saying. We have to start somewhere.

You can definitely do that somewhere in Manhattan. There will inevitably be a fee, but that's pretty much unavoidable in your position. Unless you can convert at an airport or something before you get to NYC, I think that might be cheaper and easier. Anyway, just google "currency exchange, ny, ny" and find one that is close to where you will be. I'm sure there are some in the financial district...
