Reward those who do right. I don't normally drink soda, but I am going to treat myself to a Coke and a Pepsi.

[-] 3 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

This is great news. The truth is not only evident, it's inevitable, as Gandhi said many years ago. It's a very beautiful thing and we can have hope because it does exist.

Let's be less passive and more proactive!!! Life is too short!

[-] 2 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

SO true, So, True. That it is and if we don't stand, if not now, then when, and if it's not now, will there ever be a time. Maybe not, maybe life won't give us any of us another shot. The time is NOW. Now IS the time!!!

The PUZZLER

[-] 1 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 12 years ago

I like your enthusiasm. Share it with everyone!!

[-] 3 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

Will do my friend. I won't stop because I believe in what is right. When I feel what is right is being trampled down I get up and shout from the mountain tops. For me it has become a way of life. I always make time for this. I know there's a reason I'm here and it's not hard for me to see it.

Thanks!

Reading the post's of all you gloating Leftist's is comical. You actually think your online petitions are working? What fools you all are.

[-] 2 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 12 years ago

What online petitions?

Hey, is that ALEC as cool as Bortz says it is?

[-] -2 points by tomahawk (-21) 12 years ago

You Leftist's are so pathetic and self absorbed as to be comical.

[-] 2 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 12 years ago

Won't talk about ALEC? OK, what about the Koch Bros? Are they as cool as Walker says they are? Like he said on that tape?

[-] -2 points by tomahawk (-21) 12 years ago

ALEC,Koch Bros,Walker,Cheney,Halliburton all fine,you on the other hand are a seriously,mentally FUBAR'ed.

ALEC - Update From People for the American Way

Call your local State Farm agents. Tell them you want the company to Ditch ALEC!

Take Action

Dear Dan,

More evidence your activism is working: ALEC has announced that it is disbanding its "Public Safety and Elections Task Force," the working group responsible for advancing model legislation like the controversial Voter ID and "Shoot First" gun laws that have proliferated around the country. Of course the move is a transparent attempt to stem the hemorrhaging of support ALEC's facing, thanks in large part to your efforts, but it's big symbolic victory and shows we have them on the defensive.

ALEC's trying to whitewash their role pushing extreme legislation that endangers the safety and lives of Americans -- but we won't let them.

ALEC now claims they will only focus on legislation that will 'put the economy back to work,' but will they work to undo the immense harm that have already caused? And it begs the question of how they will use a so called 'jobs agenda' to justify laws -- which they presumably will still be pushing -- that undermine workers' rights, privatize public education, and make it harder to hold corporations accountable for poisoning our air and water or selling us dangerous and defective products. We will continue to work with our friends to shine a light on ALEC's agenda and hold members accountable for supporting that agenda.

Yesterday, in another major victory, Blue Cross Blue Shield became the latest company to pull out of ALEC. We are going to keep up the momentum by turning the focus of our next round of grassroots pressure on State Farm.

Despite continued contact with State Farm, the company is not yet showing signs of budging and withdrawing its support for ALEC. It's time to get local with your activism.

Please use the link below to find the State Farm agents near you -- contact one or more of the agents directly and tell them you want the company to stop supporting ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council.

http://www.statefarm.com/agent/results.xhtml?ak_proof=1&zipCode=55433-5484

You can use the same call report form you've been using for calls to State Farm and Johnson & Johnson executives to let us know how your calls go.

Hopefully this local, bottom-up grassroots pressure will be what it takes to make State Farm join Blue Cross, McDonald's, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Mars and the other companies who have so far said "enough" to ALEC's destructive right-wing agenda.

Thank you for your activism!

Apple has agreed to clean up labor practices at their compaies in China too.

[-] 2 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

Was this done with online petitions?

[-] 3 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

Thanks, I sign these petitions all the time, and I think they are really having an effect. I think it's important to try to track the mechanisms that produce the changes we are looking for. Change.org recently pressured Apple into cleaning up its labor practices in China.

[-] 6 points by HitGirl (2263) 12 years ago

They aren't cleaned up yet, but at least they're "looking into it" with an independent auditor.

[-] 5 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

It's just so good for me to finally see people energized and DOING something about all of this. Really, the banishment of apathy and the refusal to return to apathy is all we need to win in the long run!

[-] 2 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 12 years ago

Online cash registers. Their preferred ballot box!!

Take heed, people, We The People have the power, "they" just keep us so isolated, disorganized and ignorant that we don't know our own strength. But, oops there it is!!

[-] 2 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

You think it was a boycott? I'm really trying to understand what form of pressure they bowed to.

[-] 2 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 12 years ago

Think pink slime!

Who does the grocery shopping??

Who is being attacked (personally) by the RW nuts that the Koch Bros fund??

GIRL POWER!!!

The RW nuts have gone wild, and they're over-reaching in panic.

NOW, let's exercise our power!!

[-] 2 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

Wow! I mean, you think kids did this?

[-] 1 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 12 years ago

Shhh. Not on purpose.

We are a sleeping giant. Obliviously, we do this all the time.

We need to exercise our power on purpose with accuracy.

[-] 2 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

Well, whatever it was let's do it again!!!

[-] 2 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 12 years ago

Do you understand the nature of greed? There's not a whole lot of thought. It's simply more is better. Fear and paranoia come with that, because they always want better and something might interrupt that flow of better. It does not have to be real, just feared.

Consumers raised hell about Rush's filthy rantings and pink slime's filthy-ness. ALEC was discovered by previously oblivious consumers in this. Coke and Pep just took selfish action.

NOW that we discover that we have this power, let's fucking use it!!!

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Aw poor ALEC. Now they are claiming feelings of intimidation.

Will they claim to feel threatened and respond according to laws they've written?

We're on the right track. The elite will run and hide when their dirty laundry is brought to light.

I'm even more excited about May 1st now.

[-] 1 points by Spade2 (478) 12 years ago

So did McDonalds and Kraft!

[-] 1 points by BoycottCoke (275) 12 years ago

This is good news, but there's more work to be done here, just cause a killer claims he is not going to kill anymore, it does not mean that the killings he committed should be forgotten, there is still a price to pay for those corporations who have bankrolled this Godless group. I think, just my humble opinion, that we need to find out a list of all corporations ban rolling ALEC and target them for economical boycott, until they drop out. We have to look at ALEC as a gang of thugs ( and they are ), so we need to dismantle it by getting everyone of their gangsters out of the gang, including any politicians who sit down with them as a member. After this is done, then the group is done, but still there will be more work to do in respect to the damage which has already been done. Confession of a crime does not exonerate the guilty, at least not in this land.

[-] 3 points by bensdad (8977) 12 years ago

One hundred years from now, when historians write about Occupy, the exposure of alec will be one of our primary accomplishments. Unfortunately, the koch brothers, can keep it going all by themselves.
WE MUST GET RID OF CITIZENS UNITED

Because of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision,
we cannot accomplish anything significant,
without FIRST ending corporate personhood.
Because 83% of Americans already agree on it - we don’t have to explain or persuade people to accept our position – we only have to persuade them to ACT based on their own position. Pursuing this goal will prove to the world that we, at OWS, are a serious realistic Movement, with serious realistic goals.
Achieving this goal will make virtually every other goal –
jobs, taxes, infrastructure, Medicare – much easier to achieve –
by disarming our greatest enemy – GREED.
I feel that using the tactics of the NRA, the AARP an the TP – who all represent a minority – who have successfully used their voting power to achieve their minority goals - plus the Prohibition Amendment tactics – bringing all sides together - is a straight path for us to success

Our current project is developing and implementing,
a voting bloc petition to create voter support for candidates throughout the country.
We want to vote for candidates who pledge to support a Constitutional Amendment that includes:

Overturning the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court decision which enabled the flood of secret money that is drowning our political system,
Overturning the 1976 Buckley Supreme Court decision which equates money and speech,
Eradicating the corporate personhood rights invented in the courts that
have enabled corporations to buy our democracy,
Supports campaign finance reform to level the playing field for all candidates.

The People For the American Way found 74% of Americans
want to vote for candidates who support an amendment.

Koch and the tea party and ALEC have ..the money –
….and the government –
……and they use them.

We have
..the people -
….and the vote -
……and we must use them!

Sounds great. We need first to set up a small, very small group of people and discuss everything, I mean every goal that the movement has in respect to this issue, or whatever other issue at hand, kind of like a think tank, then that small group of people can put the message out, this can not possibly be the work of just 2 or 3. And creating the group and discussion of goals and how to go about it, can take a couple of days, just intense discussions, then the group goes out and puts the ideas out so others can understand it better. This is the greatest problem we have, we do not have a think tank like they do. When I worked for my privious employer, I found out that they have companies subcontracted to do all kinds of analisys of the population, all the way down to color preference even for the packaging of their productc, that is how we get to people, we have to discuss ideas in a controlled environment (closed forum) without distractions ( think about how medicines are developed! all about controlling the environment of the testing ), then once we see or agree on a plan, stick to it and hit everything, not just this forum, I mean hit everything we get our hands on with it, and start a massive recruiting, then once we have the numbers ( I mean real numbers, not the numbers people imagine we have ), then we can start to make demands and support candidates who will support our ideals as a people. The first thing we must all understand that we are all in this together, this is not a black and white issue, it is a human issue, and we all must look at each other past the divide and conquer which has kept us separated for hundreds of years. This can start as an American issue and once we are succesful, then it can spill at the rest of the world. What better way for America to be a real revolutionary society, where everyone is equal and as Dr King said not judged by the color of skin but by the content of theur characters, and I will add, not judged by how much is in their bank accounts. As I said before in other posts, I can set something up if a group of sincere people looking to make a real impact in this world is willing to do the right thing and instead of just talking, doing something for the betterment of mankind as a whole. I'll work with anybody in this, just let me know. or if someone else wants to start it, count me in. A while back I bought the web names : OWSthinktank.org and OWSAcademy.org both can be used, and I will gladly transfer it to someone else if they are willing to do the right thing. Again, As Dr King said " A time comes when silence is betrayal", what we would be betraying is not just our fellow humans, but also the generations who will follow us after we are all gone.

[-] 3 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

I like that think tank idea. What about using that website to brainstorm the ideas from the various Occupy sites around the country and the web? Maybe in this way we can begin to flesh out the ideas that the majority of supporters could really get behind. It would be necessary, of course, to get people on the panel that are fluent in such things as politics and economics.

[-] 2 points by BoycottCoke (275) 12 years ago

You guys let me know when ready by private message and I'll set it up. I'll need a couple of days as I am a lil busy with this Coca Cola lawsuit I'm dealing with. but I'm sure when you guys are ready and let me know I can have it running in a day or two. God bless you.

Where did they go?

[-] 1 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 12 years ago

This is why the Cons and their 1% employers put so much into elections, the forum of public opinion and [preference]. Public spending controls the overall economy. We should use this!!! Take notice people!! We have the power!!

[-] 1 points by BoycottCoke (275) 12 years ago

When it comes to this type of actions, it seems we get hot then warm and then cool out. It feels like putting your opponent in a choke hold, but releasing him right before he passes out, so he is able to regroup and fight you again. With this issue of ALEC we should continue to put pressure on all companies still in it, and keep this thread on top. The pressure must stay ON until we accomplish the goal, which, by the way, should be the destruction of that entity (ALEC), a revolution does not stop to let the opposition regain strength, a true revolutionary knows that the fight is to the end, if it truly wants to see or make changes. A revolution overturnes and destroys everything that gets in its way (someone said some time ago ), if ALEC, or any other group of thugs stands in the way of true freedom as defined by the revolutionary and equality, then it must disappear, not merely be weakened, so it can learn from its mistakes and come back stronger and or better prepare to battle us. Guys, let's continue investigating, and bringing pressure on those still left as members until it is totally dismantled. God bless you all, and have a great day.

[-] 1 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 12 years ago

I'm in total agreement in spirit, not actual war.

2006 and 2008 were just the beginning, not the victory!

The Right has become so MONSTROUS that as soon as we defeat it in any way, we want to hug each other in jubilant relief. But just like all those old monster movies, while the heroes are hugging and kissing the damn monster comes back to life and kills them.

We have to be much more dedicated, diligent, thorough and vigilant.

When we kill/defeat any bit of these monsters, we have to chop it in pieces, burn each piece, encase the remnants in separate forms of concrete, and blast each block to separate stars. And always be defeating and blasting!

[-] 2 points by BoycottCoke (275) 12 years ago

Yes!, this is something that everyone can join in, it requires no actual physical combat, this is conflict of ideas and public opinion. Myself I have been sitting long enough waiting for answers to come to me, in respect to the issues affecting my fellow man, as well as myself, I have decided to get involved, and those who know me personally, know i never do things half way, all or nothing is what you get from me. The website is in place owsthinktank.org, I would recommend anybody interested in developing ideas to go and join in, and help with their presence and inputs, this is something we can all develop together, as some kind of cyber round table in a controlled environment, so we can finally moved from a position of talking about it, to actually being about it. I know a few guys who mentioned to me privately that they would be interested in joining forces and getting this going, well, the time has come to do it, so those who were sincere, please do so. I don't think there is a need for anybody to be courted as a maiden for this. As a true revolutionary, answer the call or not. I think, great things can be accomplished, when great minds get together with a common goal. Not that I am one of those great minds, or even need to be giving inputs, I'm just trying to do my part to finally get something concrete going, as Dr King said a few times, ( Paraphrasing ) " some have to move from having a high pressure of creed and at the same time an anemia of deeds " . As we move to a high pressure of deeds, we have to stay focused on goals and landmarks. No need for donations, what we are going to be doing will not put a burden on anybody else, and if I can't afford to pay for this project, I shouldn't be trying to do it. Just my way of contributing to the overall scheme of things in thus great movement. God bless you all, and i hope to see some of you guys there at owsthinktank.org. For now just join in, as I just set the place up, I'll continue working on it throughout the day as time permits. Be there!! BC.
