Interesting interactive, but I'll bet it would be as good or better if it were for six months or a year. Still pretty good, though.

Starting out with how much $ ? The link zooms so quick all I see is a zero then it fades out. Although there was a time or two when I did get through a month with $0.00

I have done it. Actually I survived several months. I was layed off twice in my career. Both times it took me six months to find a decent job. The first time I was a mid-level manager for a large financial firm in San Francisco. Then “boom”, out of the blue the company downsized. In my case the outsourced most of the department I managed. My saving grace was I was able to sell my house within a couple of weeks at a decent profit. I then moved back to Texas where I had family to rely on if things got worse.

I found a night job restocking shelves a at a grocery store. A very humbling experience. Between my meager salary and using the money from selling our house I was able to make it reasonably well for the whole six months. I eventually found another mid-level management position, only to have the company be bought out. I was on the street again.

To make a long story short, I eventually found a decent job with a decent salary, and fully recover. Ultimately I was able to retire early with a comfortable retirement.

So, the short answer is, Yes, I can survive for a month. I think most people can make it for a month. But extended periods with little or no income would put people on the street. Also, able bodied individuals can usually make it. But the sick, elderly and families have a much harder time.
