Forum Post: ...But You *Can* Evict A Mayor Whose Time Has Come

Temperature check on turning up the heat on Quan, Bloomberg, and other mayors/chancellors who have abused OWS: How do people feel about devoting some energy towards recall and/or impeachment efforts?

My own thoughts on this are that given the high level of abuse, harrassment, and dismantling we've experienced, and given that it shows no signs of letting up (as the disturbing UC-Davis footage illustrates), we would do well to spend some time now on impeachment/recall measures, so that we'll have more time later to spend on our anti-Wall Street message. As it is, much of our resources are going to housing displaced occupiers, securing permanent storage space, making sure arrested protesters are efficiently processed and legally represented, attending to the injured, etc. We've been forced to spent our energy in this way due to the evictions, imprisonment, and brutality. And I'm enormously proud of our movement for their show of solidarity on this front. But how nice would it be if we were able to devote the bulk of our resources to our anti-WS cause?

My suggested slogan: You cannot evict an idea whose time has come, but you can evict a mayor (or chancellor) whose time has come.

What do people think about devoting some effort to a recall or impeachment drive? Even if just one mayor or chancellor is brought down, that should send a strong message to all the others, and I predict our movement would breathe easier and have more time to do our real work.

Thoughts? (And please, if trolls respond, let's try to ignore them. They tend to go away if not fed).

I said it before and I'll say it again. At every OWS start circulating a petition to have recall elections or impeachments for the mayors, also have one for the chief of police in these cites also. Both people are in on this. If you get rid of one and leave the other you will not change a thing.

it WILL change. This war can be won one battle at a time. The more won battles under our belts, the stronger we get.

it's a good idea. Bringing Bloomberg down would be a real show of force and a devastating blow to the 1 percenters. The chief of Police should also make the list. I'm pretty sure OWS has what it takes to put together a brilliant legal team
