Sorry that he found no release, but to kill himself.

One very sad vets kills himself... so the political junkies can't help making a 15-minute story out of it.

"Future of the OWS protest site in Burlington uncertain." -- typically strange.

The guy killed himself. Pray for his soul. Don't pretend to have any idea what drove him to the end.

I think one of the Republicans should run an add with Obama saying how he supports this movement and then show all the drug overdoses, fighthing with the police, setting things on fire, destroying property and end with the dead guy. I just haven't figured out what the theme song will be playing in the background of the commerical.

I'm sure they will.

Of course it's news.

Not the twisted ** you're going to see splashed around, but an honest human interest piece.

There's not much sadder than a young person committing suicide.

Of course it's "news," EVERYTHING is news.

I meant "news that bears any relevance to the objectives of OWS."

Yes it's sad, but so is Syria, the Congo, etc. It's just not relevant.

[-] 2 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

Not relevant . . .

Police closed the site - for investigative purposes, with the caveat that their policy of tolerance toward the site may be modified -

A young woman - an OWS protester named Haley - was clearly in police custody as seen on WPTZ

This shooting, taking place as it did at an OWS protest site, reflects poorly on the Burlington protest - providing the opening for repelican interests at City Hall to justify closing the site.

We - those of us participating in the Burlington protest, have apparently let this individual down in some fundamental way. As a participant at that site, I am included in that overall 'we'.

If 'we' can't do a lot better at looking after each other, then this movement as a whole is already in serious trouble. That's just my take on it.

I don't think it gets more relevant than that.

Actually a suicide is not a public event, it is a very private and selfish one. To attempt to tie this event into the OWS is a disservice to the family of the young man.

It could have been that this person latched onto the OWS as a means of self preservation, it could have been that his mental/emotional condition was such that no preservation was possible.

The other protesters did not let this young person down, his issues were much more deep seated than that.

Instead of attempting to make an issue of this, we should be extending our sympathies to the family and his friends.

My condolences, even if they are never read, are still offered.

I will restate what I said below -

If it's the Josh I think it was, then WE at the OWS site had plenty of warning that this individual's needs were not being met.

IF it is the Josh I believe it was - then there are social services agencies who must bear a degree of responsibility as well.

IF it was the Josh you think it was, then would not your view make you, personally responsible for his actions?

You can only help those who wish to be helped.

Isn't that just as bad as blaming the movement for crashing the economy, starting the next civil war etc... It's awful that it happened but he may of had mental problems or just walked into his tent and decided he had enough of this F'd up world. Let's not be as quick to portray the people in Burlington in the same way the media and and a lot of detractors are trying to do.

neighbors who are good neighbors try to pay attention and make sure folks have what they need.

If it's who I think it is - was - he clearly had needs that were not being met. We had plenty of warning.

repelican? Are folks trying to reintroduce obnoxious sea birds to Burlington ?

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

repelican - we already have one or two at city hall. One of them aspires to be mayor, and sell Burlington City Electric as a solution to the Cities debt problem.

Burlington has the lowest electric rates in the state thanks to city ownership of BED

repelicans - obnoxious sea birds indeed - defacatory scavengers . . .
