Forum Post: Bernie Sanders: 'We're in This Race To Win'

Posted 8 years ago on May 1, 2015, 12:03 p.m. EST by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

"If you try to put together a movement which says, 'We have got to stand together as a people and say that this Capitol, this beautiful Capitol, our county belongs to all of us and not the billionaire class' -- that is not raising an issue, that is winning elections," he said.

I hear Scott Walker is running too, it's not all about anybody....

[-] -2 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

Bernie would increase government spending so it doesn't surprise me that "turbo the con" opposes him.

[-] 2 points by turbocharger (1756) 8 years ago

Bernie supports the financial system and Wall St.

Spending will increase, as it does with every administration. And the average dude will end up eating the bill, as it is with every administration.

The black hole that is DC will continue to consumer resources, funding Wall st and the War Machine, and leave communities further struggling, as is the case with every administration.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

all is lost, all is lost...

no wait, no it's not, we can vote for BERNIE!!

[-] 0 points by turbocharger (1756) 8 years ago

The overwhelming majority of Dem supporters support Bernie, this is well known.

Yet the media is putting him at about 8%.

When the Dems are done railroading your guy, maybe that will wake you up.

Or not. Its been about 65 years of railroading you and there you still are, pompoms a flappin.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

8 years with W Bush in the WH didn't faze you a bit, you keep electing the GOP look at 2010 and 2014, American workers sit at home and let the GOP win then bitch that the rich are getting it all, how stupid is that?

But you only care that the government doesn't spend too much you care more that the taxes that rich pay aren't being wasted that's your chief concern isn't it?

[-] 0 points by turbocharger (1756) 8 years ago

Make sure you take your meds and Metamucil today pops.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

I see you have no comment on the government spending question, you are a Ron/Rand Paul supporter that hates all that OWS stands for.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

putting W Bush in the WH didn't wake you up

conspiracy crap is banned, why don't you get off your butt and vote

[-] 0 points by turbocharger (1756) 8 years ago

The vote happens once every 730 days.

The other 729 days are where the action is.

The corporations understand this, the people don't.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

I see putting W Bush in the WH didn't wake you from your snooze even a little bit...

Not really DARING to say that Bernie might not Win-let's just stipulate that the remote possibility exists that Bernie Might Not Win.In the event that Bernie doesn't win-as remote as that possibility may be-that will really help the .01%.Because then part of the growing deluge of Bitterness will be diverted AWAY from the Oligarchy and TOWARDS ourselves and each other. The .01% can't swim in a Raging Flood of Bitterness and Despair.A reasonably Settled Down Reservoir of Bitterness,Despair,Grief &c.is perfectly suited to their Sea of Tears swimming abilities. But of course-Bernie is a Candidate. There is no way we can effectively support a Candidate unless we believe he or she can prevail. So any suggestion that Bernie might not win is clearly and entirely beyond the Pale. Those who engage in speculating about Bernie possibly not winning are clearly Republicans, and there is no form of abuse on this Forum or elsewhere that is not allowable and justified. So those not wanting to be abused must say Bernie's Gonna Win or disappear. So it seems to me,anyhow. It remains to be seen whether or not certain people will be allowed to comment further here.I have endeavored to talk about Bernie and have been told that my comments are "off topic." It seems to me not likely that any other topic is going to be allowed-even after he wins.Because of course Bernie's Gonna Win.

You cast many aspersions - but you never present an alternative - instead you will make personal attacks and try to change the subject. You really do remind me of the Boner and of Bitch McConALL and the rest of that rethuglican crew - you really really do.

[-] 0 points by turbocharger (1756) 8 years ago

After the two of you get used like a doormat for the Wall St welcome wagon as usual, you decide to stop being a doormat.

"I presented an alternative"

No - No - you never have - not a viable alternative anyway - so far all you have ever forwarded is that the people should just opt out and walk away - and protest with no action plan attached to it = invite heightened retaliation of TPTB.

So basically all you have done so far is to try to support the control of the 1% - And attack all who would forward positive action that the public could and should undertake.

So you coming to the conclusion that you are sick of being a lap dog for the millionaires club and are not going to tolerate it is not an option.

Not surprising.

has he spoken against US airstrikes ?

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

JUDY WOODRUFF: One other thing I want to ask you, Senator, about foreign policy.

ISIS, they just achieved a major victory in Iraq in taking over a big city, Ramadi, over the weekend. You have said you don’t think the U.S. should be leading the charge against ISIS. Does that mean that raids like the one that took place last week where the U.S. took out one of the top ISIS leaders and the ongoing airstrikes in Syria and Iraq shouldn’t go on?

SEN. BERNIE SANDERS: No, no, no, I have supported those efforts on the part of the president.

I voted against the war in Iraq. And I think, if you go back and you read what I had to say way back when, you know, it will sound pretty prescient in terms of the destabilization that we have seen in the Middle East.

So my view is, the United States has got to play an active role in defeating this barbaric organization, but at the end of the day, it’s going to be the Muslim countries themselves, supported by the United States and other Western countries, that will defeat ISIS and bring some degree of stability into the Middle East. It cannot be American troops on the ground.

And I will tell you what I worry about. I think too many of my Republican friends are into perpetual warfare in the Middle East. And that scares the bejesus out of me.

JUDY WOODRUFF: So, the raid last week that took out the ISIS leader, you would — you support…

SEN. BERNIE SANDERS: And I supported the airstrikes as well. But I do not want to see perpetual warfare in the Middle East. I do not want to see American combat troops on the ground in the Middle East.

looks like he may not be pure enough for you Matt

STINKLE for one of the other Democrats trying to have this movement merged into the Demoocratic Party.

Sanders has a history of thwarting attempts to build alternative third parties in his home state. He might think he is a socialist, or an Independent, but he is not. By posing as one, he adds to the illusion that we have a well-functioning electoral process. The reality is that he votes with the corrupted Democrats 98% of the time, and now he is running as one. His main objective is to bring this movement into the Democratic Party, where he wants us to choose the lesser of the two evils...AGAIN. And guess who that person will be. Hint, it starts with an 'H'.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

and your purpose is revealed, you are a political hack that cares for nothing but co-opting OWS for your own political party if it doesn't support your dreams of power you don't care about it, you never gave a damn about wealth inequality you care only for your own ambition, no wonder you have been BANNED from the site so many times

[-] 0 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

Can I deduce from that, that you think that you are an Occupier, and that you believe that all people who want to vote for a candidate from one of the two rotten parties, are too?

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

Any who wish to reduce wealth inequality is an occupier you are a political hack attempting to co-opt OWS to kickstart your ego driven carp party.

[-] 0 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

Just because you are constantly hacking on here for the corrupt Democrats does not make you an Occupier. You are not here for good reasons. I would bet that most people who have worked hard for this revolution would laugh at you.... like I am.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

You are a political hack that don't give a damn about wealth inequality you work to elect the GOP because you hope that it will drive people to your party because like all political hacks you don't give a damn about wealth inequality all you care about is co-opting OWS to kickstart your ego driven bullshit party.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 8 years ago

No they are not political hacks - at least - not - as they forward no party - what they are - are - supporters of the 1% - so - without forwarding a party - they urge people to take no action - this makes them undeclared Judas Goats. But their talking points are almost always pure rethuglican - leastways when they aren't trying to hide under some sort of revolutionary banner.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

You can see a couple of them slipping in stuff about Jill Stein or the Greens from time to time, they may just see the Greens as a useful tool to hurt the Dems and help the GOP, much like I see the Dems as the most useful tool for killing the GOP.

Just because a person does not want to vote for corrupted Democrats...AGAIN, that does not make him a political hack. However anyone who constantly shills for the corrupted Democrats would definitely be one. I'm sure Ms Sawant and Mr Hedges know this, and so do the overwhelming majority of Occupiers.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

I am consistent in my desire to kill the GOP, as you are in your attacks of the Dems, you had a big win in 2014 when many Dems were defeated, I hope that doesn't happen again in 2016.

thanks

ISIS must have the support of the Iraqi people if they cannot be bombed into oblivion

or perhaps even of the Iraqi people

I see the opportunity to call them "brutal" was not passed up by the senator

maybe they need to recirculate that bit where they are destroying ancient ruins

[-] 0 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 8 years ago

true we should have bombed the Taliban when they started destroying the Buddhist temples

[-] 2 points by windyacres (1197) 8 years ago

I would vote for Bernie or Warren, otherwise I'm voting 3rd party.

[-] 1 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

Yes Sanders reminds me a lot of Obama when he ran the first time. I foolishly believed him.

I would have trouble voting for anyone who "liked and respected" Hillary Clinton and the imperial agenda that she endorsed as Secretary of State. I could not vote for anyone who had a D or R after their name; or anyone who supports the continued inhumane treatment of an unarmed citizenry.

It sounds like more of the same to me. You can vote for the lesser evil, if you like, not me...

[-] 0 points by windyacres (1197) 8 years ago

I admit I was fooled by hope and change, and I'm registered NPA. If Sanders and Warren have me fooled, the "show" is even better than I thought. I have vowed to never vote for someone with a D or R by their name and Obama was the last one, but I like Sanders and especially like Warren. Plenty of time for the masses to embrace change and vote together for a 3rd party candidate.

[-] 1 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

The NPA, the National People's Association seems to be another one of the good grassroots groups that has formed to bring about social and economic justice. Kudos to you for belonging to it. But from my point of view, if you want systemic change from the imperial agenda and the connections to the maelstrom of injustices that stem from it... which both parties endorse, Bernie Sanders is not your man. Activism is our only chance. I wish that wasn't so, believe me.

From the Popular Resistance link that I put up on an earlier post;

Let's Not Be Fooled By Bernie Sanders

.."Let's not be fooled by any politician appealing to high ideals when they are in the business of war and empire.

Sanders not only defends military contracts that benefit his constituents in Vermont, he also joined the 100 - 0 vote in the Senate to give unalloyed moral and political support to the state of Israel during its most recent bombing campaign against Gaza...

Let's not be fooled by [so called] "progressives" who can't find their spines when the colonial regime in Israel bombs the crowded ghetto of Gaza."...

https://www.popularresistance.org/lets-not-be-fooled-by-bernie-sanders/

Sanders may have been a people's representative, or an "avowed socialist" when he was the mayor of Burlington, but he has long-since learned how to play ball. I urge you to read the bottom links on the article, especially, Bernie the Bomber's Bad Week, where it shows that he has a history of collusion with the Democrats to quell real third party alternatives in Vermont

[-] 1 points by windyacres (1197) 8 years ago

I know very little about the National People's Assoc. and was not writing about it. I changed my political registration to NPA, which means No Party Affiliation. On the ballot I will vote against D's and R's. We usually have at least one NPA candidate. Anyway, Sanders has lost his comb.

[-] 1 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

Sorry, I got that wrong. Equally perplexing to me is, "lost his comb." You mean he doesn't need one anymore 'cause he doesn't have much hair left, or that he lost his way, or sold out? lol On another note, I do suggest that you do get involved in a good grassroots group. They are popping up all over the place.

[-] 2 points by windyacres (1197) 8 years ago

I laughed very hard when John Stewart made that joke about Sanders losing his comb when he announced his candidacy. His hair always looks like the wind has messed it up. Not a good chance of getting elected in America with that kind of look.

[-] 2 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

Well, you do have to admit that Hillary looks quite refreshing compared to Sanders. lol Some people even believe that vanity, or Sanders lack of it plays a role in their charade. And if one did not take into account her being fond of this corrupt system, especially war and killing.. that she endorsed as Secretary of State, they might be fooled yet again.

I can't help but wonder how many people on this forum will abandon Hillary when Sanders pulls out, and he definitely will.

[-] 1 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

By the way, did you get the chance to check out my earlier post, underneath, and the three links at the bottom of it? They really are quite enlightening. The mere fact that Sanders is running as a Democrat should get you thinking.

The mere fact that Sanders is running as a Democrat should get you thinking.

I suppose that you would rather see him running as a republican?

BTW - what are we supposed to think about him running as a dem?

Bernie the Bomber's Bad Week, where it shows that he has a history of collusion with the Democrats

Really?

Where is your vitriol for the rethuglicans?

[-] 2 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

I can understand your being upset with Sanders running as a Democrat, but it is apropos in a perverse kinda way, of course. Don't you "think"?

Our 'mutual' disdain for the Republicans is something we can both celebrate.Together, with my "vitriol" for the Democrats, people should get the idea that both parties STINK! That is why we are both here on an Occupy site, right?

Thanks for all your efforts.

[-] 0 points by turbocharger (1756) 8 years ago

Someone said "thinking" and you stagger right into the classic Republican vs Democrat party line antics... Pet names for the opposition, etc.

"rather run as a Republican"... Who said THAT? Um, no one. Thats just how you have been trained to respond. See how that works?

Wake up dude.

[-] 3 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

In the new World we live in, "thinking" is not allowed. Sound bytes, talking points and "pet names" have taken the place of debating, morals and reasoning. Compartmentalizing our values in a xenophobic way has also been added to the new norm. 'It's OK to sympathize with women and children if they are white and American.' But if they are one of them there foreigners of darker skin color especially, it is now acceptable to kill them..bomb the crap out of them. And if they are male; or if they simply resist our hegemonic pursuits, they will quickly be labeled 'terrorists.' And if they are domestic dissidents, they will be ridiculed and have another wicked label slapped on them. The only important things that we should adhere to are that we support one of the two corrupted parties, and go to church, or synagogue on the week-end.

[-] 2 points by turbocharger (1756) 8 years ago

And right on que, the idiot appears (below the comment below) with more babbling lame nonsense.. What a freak.

Anyone that uses cute little pet names for their opponents should be treated accordingly- like a child.

DKA is a tried and true Dem, same as his three disgusting classmates that were allowed to talk about racist and homophobic and sexist things on this site. But its all about the Dem with about 10% of the population. Just as its all about the Republicans with another 10%.

Together, that 20% is so ingrained and stupidly brainwashed they are drowning out the other 80%, grasping for something that was never there to begin with. Totally played, and loving it. Freaky.

[-] 2 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

[-] 1 points by turbocharger (1756) 8 years ago

Most likely more nefarious. There's a myriad of programs out there aimed at channeling all online discussion into the classic L vs R paradigm.

The only thing that makes me think "just lost" is that it was a moderator on here, so sometimes I tend to think its a delusional uncle/aunt of Justine or something, and thats how that relationship was established.

So far you promote "NO" action to retake government and thereby gain the ability to make positive change in this country.

You say the dems are bad.

I say you ignore the actively evil = rethuglicans in office.

You sound like Boner (who shutdown government with his rethuglican cohorts) and then blamed it on the dems.

You damn the dems left and right and say nothing about the actively evil rethuglicans.

You are to say the least = disingenuous.

My "action plan" is far different, than when I am on here dealing with your tripe in which you consistently try to funnel the legitimate discontent people have back into a long-broken party, much like Hillary and Bernie do. You do your best to advance the foolish notion that all we have to do is VOTE in a few more Democrats, do some protesting, and a couple of other minor things, and Wa-La, our problems will be solved! The Dem.. party is where movements die. I "think" you know that though.

Most of us have witnessed how you ridicule anyone who disagrees with your archaic, foolish POV, even when they offer alternatives. You will not do the same to me, well not anymore than you already are with your false allegations. One more time; I will not support EITHER of the two parties who have cost us so much human misery throughout the World!

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 8 years ago

And - SOooooooo - AGAIN - You Have Nothing.

[-] 2 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

And the "reality" that you want us to swallow is, that we should "transform" this revolution, and support the "lesser evil," like many of us have done for the last forty or more years. If that were not your primary focus, you would be tolerable, but it is. You're out of touch, to put it mildly...

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 8 years ago

And the "reality" that you want us to swallow is, that we should "transform" this revolution, and support the "lesser evil,"

No - that would be your baseless accusation.

You make such accusations - so that you don't have to explain your position.

You say everything is bad - but you forward nothing as to how you would see things being made better.

What is your action plan for the public to take?

Do you have anything?

Because at this point in time you sound a lot like that rethuglican = Boner. Who when asked if he (the rethuglicans) has something to replace the ACA with so that people who only just got health care through the ACA would not be left without health care coverage again - Says - sure we got something that is better. When asked what that is you....um ....scuse...He says that there isn't anything ready to present. You...........sorry again......He has had over six years of trying to defeat and or repeal the ACA and yet He (the rethuglicans) has nothing to present. They (rethuglicans) just say trust us (this will no doubt be even better than trickle-down economics).

l will NEVER support the two-party, lesser evil precept, whether it is unspoken or not, as you imply that we should. The tremendous harm that they have inflicted on so many innocent people... that both parties endorse is unforgivable to me. If you want to be more forgetful or forgiving, and take another lesson in futility, please go for it! BTW though, that is not what Occupy is about, but I suspect that you already know that.

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 8 years ago

BTW - How do you see us getting from two parties to having no parties? I take it that is your want.

So - whats your plan of action that the public should take to see this happen? Eliminate parties and deal with issues.

I'm listening.

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 8 years ago

[EDIT] You have a lot of disclaimers and you throw a lot of mud - you deny reality - and you present nothing as to how the public could make any positive gains.

You hide behind slogans and throw baseless unsupportable accusations at people who "are" trying to make a difference and "are" presenting courses of action to take to regain control of government for the people.

EDIT-> OMG.........BONER is that you?

[-] 2 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 8 years ago

I do understand that amongst the older generation in partiulcar (unless enlightened)... that they will ALWAYS need to transform our revolution into a white hat / balck hat scenario, or Republicans vs Democrats. It's simple and more easily digestable for them, not to have to "think" beyond that. Old habits are hard to break, I guess.

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 8 years ago

It's not an artificial/fictional transformation (black hat white hat) - It currently - IS - REALITY. That you deny the facts is disturbing to say the very least - and is quite suspect as to your motives for being here - trying to forward your fictions.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 8 years ago

Jeeze you would think that Boner could be nice enough to direct him to "his" hair lacquer'er and body works spray paintist. But - then again - is that what we need for a person in office? That their hair be petrified and their skin plastered in paint?

Gosh - and to think that for all of this time - that I thought - that issues were what should be important.

Eugene Debs was probably the most renowned and revered socialist that this country ever had.. Unlike Sanders who has a picture of him in his office, Sanders is NO socialist. Debs not only, "Talked the talk," unlike Sanders he also 'walked the walk.' And rather than transitioning from being a socialist to be being a Democrat like Sanders did, Debs did just the opposite. He went on to being a powerful union activist; organizing third party alternatives; being a voice for the poor and middle-class and an ardent opponent to war. In fact the was sent to prison for speaking out passionately against World War I.

I can only imagine that Debs is rolling over in his grave at the thought of Sanders calling himself a 'socialist.' NO matter how many times Sanders calls himself one, and no matter how many pictures of Debs he puts up on his walls, Sanders in NO socialist, and now he is proving he is no Independent either. You have to have a spine to stand up against the two corrupt parties who put the interests of corporations and big banks way in front of our's. Joining the Democrats, and wanting us to accept the the lesser of two evils AGAIN, if he should lose* is CLEAR capitulation!
