Last week the U.S. Senate passed 93-7 a version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) awarding $662 billion for war spending and granting power to the military to arrest and detain U.S. citizens without legal counsel and trial.

The provision to grant power to the military was negotiated in secret by Sen. Carl Levin (D) and Sen. John McCain (R). Sen. Lindsey Graham, a supporter of the horrendous provisions, stated, "And when they say, ‘I want my lawyer,’ you tell them, ‘Shut up. You don’t get a lawyer."

The Obama White House has repeatedly threatened to veto the terrible act!

The most immediate need is to push the House and Senate members to vote against any conference bill that has either indefinite detention or endless worldwide war inserted.

The conference bill could be on the floor of the House and Senate as early as the beginning of next week, and the goal is to send it to the president before the long holiday.

Send a letter to Congress telling them to stand up for civil liberties, stop endless wars and vote no on the final version of the NDAA!

The NDAA provision not only strips U.S. citizens of civil liberties, but also includes these sinister provisions:

Continued US/NATO war in Afghanistan Funds nuclear weapons and unmanned drones Gives more taxpayer money to the military-industrial complex Stronger sanctions on Iran

Join us to jam the twitter waves against #NDAA: Tell Congress to stand up for civil liberties, stop endless wars and vote no on the final version of the #NDAA! http://ow.ly/7R1vq

Stop war spending and the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens! Tell Congress! http://ow.ly/7R1yb #NDAA via @codepink

The 2012 NDAA is the exact opposite of the CODEPINK mission statement so of course we oppose it in its entirety!

With strength and resolve! Alli, Farida, Gayle, Janet, Jodie, Kristen, Lisa, Melanie, Nancy, Medea, Rae, Rosie, Sanaa, Sharon, and Tighe

P.S. Join CODEPINK, human rights and civil liberties groups on January 11, 2012 in DC to mark the 10th anniversary of unlawful counter terrorism detentions at Guantanamo and call for an end to indefinite detention and unfair trials!
