“We support the abolition of the Environmental Protection Agency.”

Here comes ALEC's latest tactic to make that dream come true.

Sue 'em, till they have no money left to do anything else.

The American Legislative Exchange Council’s (ALEC) mission to prevent the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gas emissions has expanded into an “unusual” coordinated campaign involving state attorneys general, according to documents obtained by The Guardian and released Friday.

ALEC, an influential right-wing lobbying group funded in part by petrochemical billionaires Charles and David Koch, has been working to undermine anti-pollution and pro-clean energy policies for years. But in 2014, the group adopted a new tactic — seeking out friendly state attorneys and encouraging them to sue the EPA.

Ayn, wouldn't have it any other way.

Now,now. Speaking on the realities of ALEC, discombobulates folks around here.

Too controversial, I guess.

perhaps a thread on puppies would be more acceptable?

You could start a non-controversial thread on those puppies now.

Just be sure to mention how innocent ALEC is.

I know that I smoked way too many cigarettes over the course of my lifetime, but honestly, no one should take that as an indication that I really don't like breathing . . .

I mean common

Wait 'till you get COPD.

You won't like it.

There's the future we've been given by the kinds of shackles that have already been put on the EPA.

Global warming=A clear and present danger.

[-] 1 points by ZenDog (13023) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

got it thanks.

Nope, don't like it. But I do kinda like the steroids they offer to help open the airways.

I wish I could get more . . .

I wonder if those guys will need those too?

They're not cheap. Will Freedom Industries pay for them?

[-] 1 points by ZenDog (13023) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

I didn't say I thought anyone else should be on them - they do tend to have an adverse effect on mood . . .

Since they don't cost much my guess is the corporate sector will be more than happy to purchase them once the data is in and confirms irrefutably just how well that Moodiness will translate into a culture of fear inspired by a spike in random violence and senseless acts of cruelty - resulting in beneficial policy enhancing their bottom line.

WE will need drugs to offset the effects of the drugs we were given to enhance our ability to breath which was taken away by the chemicals in the air.

That's all pretty clear isn't it?

and did I mention? we'll need other drugs to cope with the climate of fear inspired by the moodiness produced by the drugs they gave us to help us to breath which was taken away by the chemicals they put in the air . . .

Morphine?

I hear Afghanistan has the market cornered.

[-] 2 points by ZenDog (13023) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

I had heard that a few years ago - haven't heard a lot since. To judge from news reports I would guess the north west and northern areas of the country are fairly quiet - fine places to establish an agricultural concern.

I have to say I only agree with the governor of VT about half the time, but he did take a bold and compassionate stand on the issue of heroin use in Vermont.

And then the rolling stone does this shit.

[-] 3 points by shooz (17621) 2 months ago

The reality is much larger.

Perhaps if society itself, didn't hurt so much, none of this would be an issue?

Stay informed on ALEC assault on our rights

"Agitate, agitate, agitate!!!" Don't give 'em an inch

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13023) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

that punishment of renewable energy is a clear cut attempt to curb the growth of competition by alt energy with fossil fuel. Fossil fuel knows that if alt energy is truly successful, what will happen is a double cut to their entire economic model:

  1. it will reduce the demand for fossil fuel
  2. it will decentralize power production and distribution regardless of whether that is based on fossil fuels or something else.

fuk them

[-] 0 points by 99nproud (1877) 2 months ago

Not fuk'd enough I agree.

Let the continued fuking commence.

[-] -1 points by ZenDog (13023) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

pv magazine on Monday reported claims by left-leaning newspaper the New York Times that the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a federal interest group of Republican legislators, was behind an 83-5 vote in the Oklahoma Senate approving senate bill 1456, which included plans to tax homeowners who sell excess solar and wind power back into the grid.

Clearly not fuked hard enough to judge by the legislative vote. Not sure how that plays out in OK politics but in Vermont a two thirds majority is required from both houses - which has happened

And those numbers cited by the article seem to indicate a veto override is possible in OK.

And in fact she didn't even veto the bill - she simply used an executive order that stipulates alternatives to this new tax must first be explored.

Pretty tepid resistance if you ask me.

Co-opting your State's Attorney General.

A very real story.

"The Guardian has learned that the American Legislative Exchange Council (Alec), a free market group of state legislators funded in part by coal and oil companies such as Peabody Energy and Koch Industries, launched a much broader style of campaigning in 2014 to block the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from cutting greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

Documents obtained by the Guardian offer a rare glimpse into the inner workings of Alec as the organisation tried to drum up opposition from coal, oil and electricity industry groups and state officials.

The documents showed Alec adopting a new tactic of encouraging state attorney generals to bring lawsuits against the new EPA regulations – and so sink the emissions controls before they come into effect. Alec also encouraged legislators to lobby attorney generals and governors in other states on the EPA rules, the documents showed. […]

“Alec has become quite well known and notorious for promoting model legislation. This is different,” said Nick Surgey, director of research for CMD which investigates corporate influence on public policy. “Alec is engaging much more broadly in the campaign against the EPA regulations, and they are doing so by asking their members to advocate for the coal industry with attorney generals. That is very unusual for them.”"

Meanwhile, another one of ALEC's promotional favorites, fracking, just got another black eye.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/05/03/seismological-society-of-america-fracking-causes-earthquakes/

Yet another study, saying fracking causes earthquakes.

The fucking American oil institute should be labeled as a straight out liar for fossil fuel as they back the approval of the KXL: and Fracking as well - saying it is ALL GOOD and CLEAN and as safe and American as apple pie ( the fuckers ) - assholes are putting out commercials in Minnesota right now touting the wonderful benefits and "thousands" of jobs to be provided by KXL ( the blatant fucking liars ).

[-] 2 points by shooz (17621) 2 months ago

Here's some info on the reality of some of those "jobs".

Somehow, it's never like the brochure.

'In the Land of Hell' = so appropriate.

Coming soon - the man made badlands of ND - on steroids ( plenty of unleashed/dumped poisons to add to everyone's enjoyment ).

Mmm mmm good - mmm mmm good - oil and natural gas fracking is mmm mmm good. F'n assholes!

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (34832) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 months ago

BTW - it was so appropriate that a cancer commercial aired prior to the vid.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (34832) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 months ago

That land is attempting to spread.

Yes it is - from sea to polluted sea - funny thing ( NOT ) though - whether the fracking machinery/works/operations get fully expanded or not - the damage already done "WILL" spread out through the aquifers.
