No kids, ALEC isn't going away anytime soon.

Crushing unions is just part of their plan, now they want YOUR state to be pseudo (R)epelican't.

Keep in mind that this is just the beginning of Citizens United being used to destroy what's left of the US democracy.

"One of the benefits of living in a democracy is knowing, with relative certainty, that the people choose a representative to lead the country through the electoral process, and although not every voter is pleased with the results of an election, they can rest easy the leader was chosen by the people and not appointed by special interests. Republicans hate democracy and fair elections, and to ensure future presidents are chosen by conservative fascist committee, they have been on a two-and-a-half year crusade to rig the electoral process to guarantee a Republican will win the White House with fewer votes than their opponent. In the last election, although Democrats garnered 1.4 million more votes than Republicans, redistricting and gerrymandering enabled the GOP to hang on to the House of Representatives. Republicans are notorious for using revolting tactics to win elections, and the current coup d’état by electoral college rigging is a travesty, but like every dirty trick Republicans use to steal elections, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is behind Electoral College rigging efforts in Republican-controlled states that overwhelmingly voted for President Obama."

'If any American thinks for a minute that there are limits to Republican fascists’ efforts to rig elections in their favor, they are blind, because ALEC and the Republican Party are threatening more than Democratic Presidents, congressional seats, state legislatures and governors; they threaten the existence of democracy itself. Americans should be repulsed and mortified it is even possible for ALEC and Republicans to impede the will of the people in choosing their president, but that is the price Democrats pay for sitting out the 2010 midterm elections, because now they will learn the hard way that “elections have consequences” and democracy can die.' - from your important link.

Don't forget the ALEC experiment with "emergency managers" here in Michigan too.

Tyranny incorporated.

'ALEC & The Savage Attack On Democracy' - http://www.nationofchange.org/koch-brothers-alec-and-savage-assault-democracy-1323529391 from which, I quote - 'For the Koch brothers and their kind, less democracy is better. They fund campaigns with millions of dollars in checks that have helped elect the likes of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Ohio Governor John Kasich. And ALEC has made it clear, through its ambitious “Public Safety and Elections Task Force,” that while it wants to dismantle any barriers to corporate cash and billionaire bucks’ influencing elections, it wants very much to erect barriers to the primary tool that Americans who are not CEOs have to influence the politics and the government of the nation: voting.'

ALEC 'is a “stealth business lobbyist,” according to the New York Times. It has been bleeding corporate and business members over the last year due to controversial legislation it has promoted on issues ranging from voter suppression to minimum wage laws. - ALEC often acts as a kind of factory for template legislation enacting right-wing policy priorities, and the bills then show up in state legislatures — often pushed by state-level lawmakers who are themselves ALEC’s members. They’ve included bills to repeal minimum wage laws, dismantle unions, undo capital gains and estate taxes, get rid of paid sick days, increase obstacles to voting, and even push the “stand your ground” laws made infamous by the death of Trayvon martin.' - from your excellent link.

Thanks for the great link from a very good web-site :) Also see:

I was a little surprised that these green corps were involved but there it is. They've made the right decision now.

Excellent links yourself, I hadn't seen those stories.

ALEC is 'mandating the teaching of climate change denial in public school systems', from - http://www.nationofchange.org/three-states-pushing-alec-bill-require-teaching-climate-change-denial-schools-1359732047 .

There are some very real questions as to how green 'green corps' are. I would very strongly recommend the following link to 'Climate Of Doubt', which is is a brilliant documentary exposé of Corporate Shilling and the network of corporate 'think-tanks and associations' pushing man-made climate change denial:

here is how a state with 525000 voters and 3 gerymandered congressional districts can be manipulated
with 315000D votes & 210000R votes, the 3 electoral votes would go D

with the new R cheat by gerrymander - one EV per district:
with each D or R representing 35,000 votes: 9D + 6R ED1 = RRRDD => 1 R delegate
ED2 = DDDDD => 1D delegate ED3 = RRRDD => 1R delegate

so with the new gerymandering THAT HAS BEE DONE
315000 D will get one delegate 210000 R will get two delegates

If this is not clear please ask!!!!

TWO ANSWERS TO FIGHT BACK

The National Popular Vote Bill is Now at Half-Way Point The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in the entire United States. The bill preserves the Electoral College, while ensuring that every vote in every state will matter in every presidential election. The National Popular Vote law has been enacted by states possessing 132 electoral votes — 49% of the 270 electoral votes needed to activate it.

Paving in Pennsylvania.

Now that the lame duck teabagge(R)s have pushed through "right to work" in Michigan, based on 100% lies I might add, they are on their way to "selling" the same lie in Pennsylvania.

Selling lies. It's what ALEC does.

Care to buy some today?

Great post. Informing as many as possible regarding these threats to the 99% is critical.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Let's hope ALEC doesn't yet own all the judges in all the courts, because God knows they have tried to own them all.

[-] 2 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

Well, it seems to me the judges ALEC might control, & the ones that the 99% should watch are the ones appointed by ALEC supported conservatives. I suppose this fact is the reason repubs in congress have obstructed more dem judge appointments in all of history.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Record obstruction across the board for this "congress".

Meanwhile, in the States, ALEC exerts even more control.

[-] 1 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

repubs jumped on the CU ruling in 2010 & spent 10's of millions to take statehouses. Dems were slow, and they lost out. Repubs used that win to redistrict/gerrymander as many house seats as possible. I hear only 12 seats repubs hold are not "guarantee repub wins" It will be very difficult to dislodge repub house majority. but it must be a high priority.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Agreed.

A very high priority.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

With the help of ALEC, they have already packed the State supreme courts.

[-] 1 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

It will be years before that effort is undone.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

It is perhaps, the most ignored fact out there.

[-] 2 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

And potentially the most damaging.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

The damage done already is obvious to those with the audacity to look.

[-] 2 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

Some of us are looking and working hard to undo it. Informing the rest is integral part of that effort.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

ALEC has concentrated it's efforts on the Sates for good reason.
