The reason why people are using so many food stamps is because their salary doesn't cut it.

If they get minimum wage most of their salary will go towards paying the rent and utilities.

The minimum wage also sets the bar to how much other higher skilled employees should be paid.

If people really want to decrease the number of food stamp recipients then the minimum wage should be increased to a level that reflects inflation.

Minimum wage doesn't do you any good if you don't have a job.

Well it puts more money in people's pocket as opposed to the wealthy who hoard it. They then spend it. That in turn creates more jobs.

It doesn't put more money in your pocket if you don't have a job.

Which does not mean that I don't support living wages, just that the whole concept is absurd when real unemployment is 20-25%.

An I'm saying that unemployment is high because people don't have any money to spend, so the economy is stalled and small businesses have a hard time thriving.

Also you're assuming that corporations would lay off workers, when in fact they have a vast supply of surplus money and need the workers for their businesses to function.

Either way the money is in the system, be it spent or hoarded.

Sure, mass dependency as a path to economic growth. LOL. This is why liberals could never be trusted with the economy.

No its not mass dependency. I'm talking about a livable wage, not "stimulus packages"

Sure, wealthy people "hoard" and poor people "spend", so why not take from evil hoarders and give to virtuous spenders? Setting up mass dependency has consequences.

LIberals support things like an open border, but then lack the capacity to connect it with low wages once they've flooded the market with drop-outs looking for work.

You can't fix a market with price controls. You have to tighten up supply, something liberals simply don't want to hear about.

I have heard as you are hired at Walmart, they would give you a food stamp application and say the job is not a career, don't expect to live off it.

If you raise the price of labor then less labor will used.

Newt said I can use them to travel to exotic places like Hawaii or da butt, I think I'll order me up some! I've never been to Hawaii or ever had food/travel stamps to do it for free!

Why do liberals get credit for wanting "living wages" while supporting an open border which depresses wages? We've flooded the country with drop out immigrants. We have a massive over-supply of no skill people. That pushes down wages. Really, this is hard to understand?

The liberal answer: Price controls for those with jobs, mass unemployment and state dependency for those without.

Fight poverty. Occupy the border. If you don't like poverty, at least have the brains to stop importing more.

If you want higher wages, at least have the brains to know that wages are connected to supply.

No, we need to reduce the wild over-supply of no-skill people. Price-fixing labor rates is too little too late and long after the damage has been done. Price controls will also just result in even MORE unemployment.

Something we can do, something that would actually help, would be to control our border and enforce our immigration laws. We've flooded the country with unskilled people, but then don't like low wages that result. That's flat out stupid.

Fight poverty: Occupy the border. If you don't like poverty, at have the brains to stop importing more.
