This idea is truly brilliant, yet super simple... An app to allow us to use our cars as a taxi, and make money, without needing an expensive taxi medallion (the tool of the city to help the rich). Taxi medallions cost $200,000 - $600,000 and take years to get. Why can't I make money by driving people around? I'm sure we'll have to go through the same background checks, but it is totally worth it.

It is just too simple and too brilliant, I think it will work and put the power back into the hands of the 99%.

The way I see it:

1) Cabs are super expensive now and very limited in San francisco especially - This system will allow cab prices to be cut in half.

2) There are a ton of cars on the road, not enough people carpooling.

3) We finally are able to create work for ourselves solving a real need out there, helping the environment.

This is quite simply a beautiful solution to actually help the cause rather than consistently whine about things.

More solutions from the people, keep them coming. Read this, see if you agree:

Problem is, people that come up with solutions like these, fall on deaf ears.. it is almost as if people just don't care about working.

you're right, but that is changing. Yesterday I saw almost every major corporate-owned media on cable TV asking people to move their money to local credit unions. I have NEVER seen something like that on TV before. The idea started from a dinner conversation and a resulting small 5 min film done last year - it fell on the usual def ears, but eventually it was heard - times are changing for the better, please don't lose hope now.

I won't lose hope... As long as people come up with great ideas to help fix things, I think we show hope in a future where people are working together, rather than working divided.

Driving people around, you can make $200/day in income quite easily.. maybe more... I don't classify this as a job that is beneath anyone...

I'm sure they've devised clever ways to get around the legal issue of operating a cab with your own car. And I'm sure the city and the rich will try to fight against it, but they won't be able to stop it.

If everyone becomes a cab driver then who will ride the cabs?

[-] 1 points by SoftwareEngineer (16) 12 years ago

There aren't enough cabs right now in San Francisco. People will ride the cabs. Is this a serious question?

Can we shut down the OWS movement now because everyone can drive cabs and become rich?

[-] 1 points by SoftwareEngineer (16) 12 years ago

It isn't about becoming rich, it is about giving people a way to make a living on their own terms. OWS is fighting for a lot of things, this can help a lot of them at least put food on their table.

There is a shortage of apple pickers in Oregon now that illegal immigrants have been driven away. I don;t see anyone rushing to take those jobs.
