Forum Post: A public option healthcare plan would need a 15% VAT.

That VAT would fall heavily on the young and the poor. Every man, woman, and child would have to pony up about $700 to a $1000 month to fund a public option.

At 15 %, if everyone had to "pony up" $1000 a month, they would have to be spending $15,000 a month?

In Australia, we pay less than 2% of our gross income over a cut-off figure around ten grand, for our "free" public health plan. No dental included.

Bump.

This is the only way a public option will be funded, like in Europe today. The only way to get the money needed is to tax people who dont get sick, the young and healthy.
