I had a talk with MayFrock last night on these forums here: https://occupywallst.org/forum/what-is-wrong-with-you/

That user was trolling because of mistreatment in the chat room.

I hope that this was cleared up for that user, and at the end of the talk their tone seamed to change, take a look

There are also posting robots. 1LtG for example. This is quickly going to get out of hand and it will be impossible to continue the discussions that were going so well just recently.

We need:

  • Captchas
  • black lists
  • flag users
  • flag posts
  • etc...

The downside with black lists and banning users is that users with legitimate opinions may get banned simply for stating an unpopular (but possibly legitimate) opinion. This has happened in the chat room, from what I understand.

When that starts to happen, we stop being challenged to think critically about ourselves and our movement, and we end up in a bubble.

What to do?

Foxandfriends seems like another one. Anyone who uses the terms "Reds" "Commies" or any related terms does not like democracy and thus should stay under the bridges.

Thank you!

being an old hippie I have been involved with political events Demonstrations & campaigns for a long time. These kind of parasites are there and will continue to be there. The best thing anyone can do is to encourage others to ignore their petty name calling.. any reaction is a benefit to their cause. otherwise you need to keep forums open and easily accessible..

Hpolloi,

I find it interesting, though not surprising, that although this movement is billed as a fight for liberty and freedom, certain members are quick to try to censor people with differing opinions by dissuading other members from listening to them.

I imagine you're in favor of a socialist model as your apple certainly didn't fall far from the tree. Look through history at any example of a socialist model and you will find that the first step is to censor differing opinions and establish power through control of information. Socialism, in the guise of power to the people, in fact centralizes power in a few.

I think you would benefit from reading a book typically saved for sixth graders, Animal Farm. Once you're done with that, take a few history and economics classes.

Are posts being deleted? are users being banned from the forums? people are free to post what they want, this does not mean the community will not call them like they see them.

Freedom of speech allows you to say what you wish, it does not absolve you of the consequences of using that freedom or force others to support your ideas.

Not yet.

There is a difference between disagreeing with someone on facts and between labeling them in negative connotation and trying to get people to ignore them.

You're a concern troll. You don't know me, and I don't know you, but I know that your posts on this forum are concern trolling.

Calling you out on concern trolling is not censoring you. I know you know better than that - so now you're acting in bad faith.

You aren't being censored at all. You are free to whine about being called a concern troll, but that doesn't change your concern-trolling past. Double shame on you.

I think you would benefit from some due humility.

What makes you think you know me, my ideas or motives at all.

Most people on WS really aren't interested in what this movement is saying but this WS person is attempting to at least point you in the right direction. Perhaps you may learn something by listening to what I have to say rather than creating new posts asking people to ignore the inside perspective. If you don't want to, that's fine but let others make up their own mind. In the meantime, you can continue to call me whatever you like. You can also continue a movement that, up to this point, has no concise goal, strategy or even idea of how things work. Will see how that works out in cold November weather.

Oh please. You'll point us in the right direction. That'd be funny if it wasn't arrogantly patronizing. You've just run out of material at this point, haven't you?

Go home, concern troll.

[-] 1 points by PragmaticEconomist (39) from New York, NY 12 years ago

What material are you talking about? What about economics and finance would you like to learn today?
Not trying to be patronizing. But it's pretty frustrating when members base their knowledge of the world on youtube videos.

Anyways, shouldn't you be at tonight's protest, making things worse for all of the rest of us in the US?

I am home, in my nice Manhattan apartment - feel free to shoot me a finger when I walk by in the morning (assuming you managed to stay out of jail). Maybe you should consider getting out of NYC, going home and putting your efforts into something that adds value to yourself and the rest of the community instead of wasting everyone's time.
