..to make a Demand on .

... Think about it. .. The amount of issues that got us here are multiple.. needing Multiple Resolutions. It's HOW we Got here in the First Place that needs to be addressed, and thru THAT, will come even MORE Issues!

What can I say.. It's Freakin' Complicated.

They ( The 1%) began a Concerted effort to Wag the Dog.. then Divide the people with Issues that keep us from focusing on what they were doing in the First Place..

Taking out the Middle Class!

..The Investment Banks, the Financial Institutions ran and Own the Hedge Funds and Money Markets. Mutual Funds.. Bond Market .. Etc. That's how they crept into our Capitol, and began Feeding on the Integrity of this Country's Elected Officials.. So.. First?

Attack them at the Knees! Get Indictments.. and the Attention of the 99% will become Focused ... just by THAT alone.

... We Will have made the First Step towards a United Front to Stop the Corruption FIRST!

The root of the problem is that our government is responsive to the people who fund its activities. Members of Congress pay much closer attention to what their campaign contributors want, and to what Super PACs organizers want, than to what is right.

Junkie.. you are supporting what i just said, and i TY. We Cannot first attack our Elected Officials.. ..UNLESS.. we Fire the Lot of 'em! Clean our House and Senate.. Completely!

But,, We Do have the opportunity thru 'Occupy' to attack on a Legal level the Corruption thru Charges that are out there waiting for Indictments. The SEC is Filled With them.. and none are getting Jail Time.. THAT we can Change.. by Leaning on our DOJ.. White House, and media attention to begin Stopping the FINES.. ( why Did Martha Go to Jail for a 64K inside Trade, When GS inside Trades Every Dam Day.. and Gets Fined?!>!)

Once we get the Focus on a truly Huge Problem, Goldman Sachs.. the others will Crumble under that house of Cards.. and so will the MOST Corrupt elected Officials in their Pockets.. The Paper Trail is SO Easy to research.. Most of it has already been published.

... We can do this.

It's not really the fault of our elected officials. They might mean well, but they're forced to campaign at all times. They're forced to make every decision based on campaign financing calculations. The problem is the system, itself. Not the elected officials personally. Many of them agree with us, but the system is stacked against them just like it's stacked against us.

TechJunkie.....i fear you make too many excuses for our elected officials. Term limits and public funding of elections may be an answer to corruption in politics. The iron law of oligarchy is a political theory, first developed by the German syndicalist sociologist Robert Michels in his 1911 book, Political Parties.[1] It claims that rule by an elite - or "oligarchy" is inevitable as an "iron law" within any organization as part of the "tactical and technical necessities" of organization.[2] Michels particularly addressed the application of this law to democracy, and stated: "It is organization which gives birth to the dominion of the elected over the electors, of the mandataries over the mandators, of the delegates over the delegators. Who says organization, says oligarchy".[3] He went on to state that "Historical evolution mocks all the prophylactic measures that have been adopted for the prevention of oligarchy."[4] Michels stated that the official goal of democracy of eliminating elite rule was impossible, that democracy is a façade legitimizing the rule of a particular elite, and that elite rule, that he refers to as oligarchy, is inevitable.[5] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_law_of_oligarchy

In that case, why are we here?

[-] 1 points by BearDickinson (125) from Ewing, VA 12 years ago

How about term limits ? the prez is limited to 2 terms or 8 years. http://www.termlimits.org/

Sure, and public campaign financing. And Citizen's United was a very bad idea.

[-] 1 points by alexrai (851) 12 years ago

In some respects that's true, but if you look at a principled politician like Ron Paul it shows that it is possible not to play the game.

Playing the game is obviously easier, but if you stick to your principles it seems you wind up with a very loyal following willing to throw plenty of small donations at you. You also get completely ignored by the media which is just as big a problem as campaign contributions, people often forget just how powerful the media actually is, even in the internet age. Imagine what it was like 40 years ago.

ah.. Nope!

.. I worked inside the Beltway.. and let me tell ya, They know Exactly what they are doing. and how much that will get them in Pocket! Not for Campaign.. Really! How many are helping us here? ... One!

Aligning yourself against greed is like aligning yourself against breathing. You're going to fail because you're going to go against the Tao. The problem is not greed, itself. The problem is not even greedy people enriching themselves at the public's expense. The problem is our system of government, which makes our elected officials beholden to their funders. Corporate lobbyists, and Super PACs. You'll never succeed at eradicating greed. But you can work toward improving our system of government to make it more responsive to the public and less responsive to campaign contributors.

I agree - greed is animal human nature - just like stealing, murder, etc
I invite you to do exactly what you want to do -
get rid of super pacs and then the lobbyists

i agree 100% Marlow. in addition to holding the crooks accountable in a court of law, getting the money out of politics should also be a priority..... i admire this group http://unitedrepublic.org/ this article really hits home with me - Top 6 Corporations to Occupy http://unitedrepublic.org/2012/top-6-corporations-to-occupy/

These are indeed worthy, but there isn't a single major investment house listed.

Who and what owns control of these corporations?
