"I am truly humbled and inspired by the many of you who have offered to help - getting signatures, making phone calls to media, suggesting events for me to attend, or offering some other important service.

Now more than ever, we need to keep Don Siegelman's name in the headlines. In the next sixty days we are pushing to get Dad's case on every major network before inauguration! Together we can make this happen. Can you donate $5 to our cause?

Also, we must fill up the petition! Everyone can help by sharing it on Facebook and Twitter, with friends, family, co-workers, even strangers!

Dad and America needs us to stand up for justice.

I cannot tell you how grateful I am for you. I wish I could hug each of you. Just know that when this is over, we will celebrate your activism and passion for justice.

Let's go FREE DAD!

Dana"

The above is quoted from his daughter Dana. I am not related to Don Siegelman. I did meet him at the Paulistas' NYC FreedomFest, just from that I believe I can attest to his character (I've read material too of course). It's a terrible injustice that is taking place.

The railroading of Don Siegelman has been widely recognized as a politically motivated injustice. Please check out Dana's interview on Thom Hartmann's show, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk5FDVhIydc and add your signature to the petition. This case has dropped out of sight because it has dragged on so long. Help us fix that.

Hear, hear!

Most people simply trust the justice system. They can't imagine that it could be used to carry out a fraud. For them, that only happened in the old U.S.S.R and Nazi Germany.

Good that you bumped up the post again.

This is an obscene travesty of justice. Pure political attack by Karl Rove!

Signed and spread. Thanks.

Nowhere do I see what he's charged with or anything else substantive so I can't sign. Please enlighten me; what is he charged with and what exactly did he really do. Thank you so much.

I don't have a summary paragraph at hand, but from earlier posts:

" [-] 1 points by ZenDog (13050) from South Burlington, VT 3 weeks ago

from The HuffPost [ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mimi-kennedy/don-siegelman_b_1851909.html ]

Don Siegelman should be a star in the Democratic Party. Instead, he's a former elected official sentenced to prison by a right-wing judge in Alabama.

Siegelman had the temerity to be a popular Alabama Democrat who'd won every statewide office by 1998, when he first became governor. With Jewish and Catholic roots, and empathic appeal to minorities, he threatened the GOP "southern strategy" for a dominant one-party Republican nation. To the GOP, Siegelman was potentially Another Clinton -- as repellent to them as Another Cuba.

U.S. Attorney Leura Canary, a friend of Karl Rove's, incited Siegelman's prosecution for bribery, destroying his political career and hurting his family. Read this letter signed by 113 former attorneys general and other national leaders, both Democrat and Republican. They assert that the prosecuted "bribe" wasn't one, and that, if this conviction stands, it threatens every public official and contributor at every level of government. Such routine transactions, if prosecuted, would choke our courts."

[ . . . ] It is unfortunate but there was evidence stacked up against him. But I repeat again, name one truly honest Governor, I do not think there is one that exist .

[-] 1 points by nomdeguerre (1296) from Brooklyn, NY 2 weeks ago

Evidence that he appointed Richard Scrushy to the same nonpaying position on a state healthcare board that an earlier Republican governor, James Fob, had also appointed Scrushy to?

I'm sorry but you freaks have overreached here."

"Please enlighten you"? Snide much? I guess you are too busy to look at the links. Five minutes would tell you what a crime this imprisonment of Siegelman is. If you were interested.

is it a song?

Geesus, would you go away? Your like Denis the Menace, popping up and being annoying.

Actually I have given you some thought, I suspect you are a baby psychopath. I understand that psychopathy is considered an arrested development defect. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%22psychopath%22+%22arrested+development%22

It seems you correspond to a 6 or 7 year old case of arrested development psychopathy.

quit the military round then

Thanks for the bump.

[-] 1 points by Marquee (192) 11 years ago

I wasn't being snide. Quite the contrary. My original question was posted before the links were posted. I've read them since, but you really should have included some info on the case in your post and on the petition so people would know what they were signing to, that's all.

[-] 2 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 11 years ago

Sorry for jumping the gun. I'll find a synopses paragraph. Thanks for setting me straight.

[-] 1 points by Marquee (192) 11 years ago

No apologies necessary. I'd be a bit irritable (to put it mildly) if that happened to my dad. Petition signed. I hope it all goes well, really.

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) 11 years ago

He did not receive one dollar of that money. He did not personally profit one red cent, how is that bribery?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mimi-kennedy/don-siegelman_b_1851909.html

Criminals have had control of our country for a long time. This is what they have to offer.

[-] 2 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 11 years ago

It's a bizarre, criminal, word game that has put him in jail. The perps (judicial, prosecutorial, governmental) obviously think we are stupid.

[-] 1 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 11 years ago

From http://blog.al.com/times-views/2012/11/siegelman_is_a_political_priso.html :

"Siegelman is completely innocent!

Don Siegelman is in prison for taking money from Richard Scrushy to use for a State Education Lottery commission that would have given state college scholarships to underprivileged kids.

Siegelman did not use this money personally. Siegelman appointed Scrushy, a Republican, to the same medical board that three previous governors did -- two Republican governors and one Democrat. Yet, for this, it is considered bribery, and he is in prison?.

Another strange twist to Siegelman's case is that George W. Bush's appointed federal prosecutor Laura Canary's husband was campaign director for Bob Riley, Siegelman's opponent in the governor's race. And the Bush recess-appointed judge that Siegelman came before was the same person that Siegelman investigated when he was attorney general.

Don Siegelman is not only an innocent man sitting in prison, he is obviously a political prisoner and should to be released immediately.

E. Hudson Jr. Gardendale"

70 Days to FREE Don Siegelman:

"WE ARE MOVING MOUNTAINS.

The period after this election and before inauguration is crucial. We need signatures, media and money to free Dad in the next 70 days!

I've traveled across the country. I've spoken at churches, synagogues, universities, meeting halls, bars, house parties, and yes, even in the streets! I'm gaining traction with media coverage thanks to Thom Hartmann, Peter B. Collins, Brad Friedman, and others who have kept the story alive. There will be more, but I need your help!

Please share the petition to free Dad by posting on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and emailing personally to friends to sign and share as well. Please add me on Facebook and join the daily movement to free Dad!

We want to make pardoning Dad one of the easiest things the President has ever done. That means lots of signatures, lots of media, and your support!

Thank you so much for all you are doing! We are making history!

Dana"
