Developer pitches $1B commonwealth for Belle Isle

"Detroit — As the broken city thinks big and radically about its future, a developer is stepping forward with a revolutionary idea: Sell the city's Belle Isle park for $1 billion to private investors who will transform it into a free-market utopia.

The 982-acre island would then be developed into a U.S. commonwealth or city-state of 35,000 people with its own laws, customs and currency."

The free-market utopia,. or a way to avoid taxes and the people, while still benefiting from being IN America?

This trend of bankrupting cities, or any level of government really, and then using the "representatives" in office to sell off all the peoples wealth for the short term ability to pay down the debt is really ramping up, of late. Never paying off the debt mind you, as that would end the endless interest the 1% parasites require to keep up the Yacht Clubs and Polo tournaments. http://www.dyc.com Guess the private sub-island is just not enough for these greedy short-sighted fools.

The DEBT is a fucking scam

"This trend of bankrupting cities, or any level of government really, and then using the "representatives" in office to sell off all the peoples wealth for the short term ability to pay down the debt is really ramping up, of late."

It's all part of their plan. Look at Arizona.

Great post.

Ain't that boogie a mess?

$300,000 to become a "citizen".

But they would be willing to allow in some "immigrants".

Someone to clean their toilets and mix their drinks?

This is nothing short of a bid for Galts Gulch.

A bid to remove one of Detroit's last public spaces.

A space (R)epelican'ts have cut and limited funding to for DECADES!

So now the assholes who refused to fund it want to buy it to tear down what's left?

Those of you that refuse to accept the relationship between libe(R)tarians and (R)epelican't/conse(R)vatives, should take note that this "proposal" made it's way to Detroit from that conse(R)vative/(R)epelican't "think tank" know as the Mackinaw Center.

Somewhere in the background, you will find the Koch brothers.

And so continues the great demise of a great nation.

It actually sounds like an interesting experiment. Small scale, contained, open to observation. And, from outside appearances, Detroit really has nothing to lose and $1 billion to gain.

What are expected to be the primary industries of Belle Isle?

The primary industries are expected to be finance, insurance and investments

So, basically, we are looking at a hide out place where they rely on the all the benefits of the US and none of the responsibilities. This includes the military. Given it's location -what are the odds?
