Occupy Boston Builds "Camp Charlie" on State House Steps

Posted 12 years ago on April 5, 2012, 1:12 p.m. EST by OccupyWallSt

Occupy Boston and union supporters inside the Boston State House yesterday

Following Wednesday's National Day of Action for Public Transit that saw Occupiers and unions take part in coordinated actions across dozens of cities, Occupiers in Boston flooded the state capitol and have now set up an encampment outside in protest of fare hikes and service cuts to mass transit. Occupy Boston says they will occupy the area for 10 days, or until the state government agrees to revise the budget for transit.

from Occupy Boston:

This evening, Occupy the MBTA, a working group of Occupy Boston, launched Camp Charlie, a ten day occupation of the State House steps to protest fare-hikes and service cutbacks on the MBTA. Having survived the depths of the recession, the 99% now faces additional taxes in the form of escalating T fares and the loss of essential transport routes. This is a further transfer of public wealth to the banks. These are the same institutions that were bailed out by the American taxpayer after being rendered insolvent by their own, criminal recklessness. The only debt in need of servicing is their debt to us. In a country that lavishes four billion dollars in subsidies on the oil companies, the relentless assault on public transport could not make less sense – ethically, environmentally, or otherwise. Camp Charlie will be a place for public debate, conversation, and outreach – a living testament to the refusal of the people to be further abused by a clutch of corporate interests, multinational banking cartels and consolidated oil interests.

All those in Boston are encouraged to join or stop by Camp Charlie! Follow @Occupy_Boston and @OccupyMBTA for updates.

No service cuts!
No fare hikes!
No layoffs!
No privatization of our treasured public transit system!
A comprehensive plan for affordable and sustainable transportation that works for the 99%!

In reference to the banks, "The only debt that needs servicing is their debt to us." That was a superb analysis. I think it is time to start civil proceedings against these banks for the lingering financial carnage that they have caused to oh so many people.

Right-ON. This is what I call putting it straight to their faces. We will not approve your miss-management. You need to stop fixing (?) problems by throwing the poor and middle class's money at it.

Time to tackle the problems facing the world starting at " THE TOP " where the problems have been birthed fed and nurtured for decades.

The Rich are Richer and The Poor are Poorer due to the fact that the Rich are no longer working to support this country.

You're right...they're too busy playing at 'Casino Wall Street', that unlike any other time in my life anyway has nothing to do with the well-being of Main St.....USA that is. Our only connection to them is we suffer the conseguences when they place stupid self-serving bets.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

And it is way past time that we called the game.

They are beginning to squirm as they realize this.

[-] 2 points by Odin (583) 12 years ago

That's one of the main reasons we are all here, isn't it?

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Yes - yes it is. What many do not realize fully is that it is all tied together.

[-] 2 points by Odin (583) 12 years ago

I know, and I will humbly say that i was one of those people when I first came here... that did not have it "all tied together." I simply knew that there was a lot of frayed rope. I've come a long way..eh?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Me too. It has been an education. This stuff a lot of it you will not know about unless you are looking for it in the 1st place doing research on the internet as it is not covered by the media. By coming here we have saved a lot of steps and a lot of work that would likely not have been done in the 1st place. There is a definite strength in numbers and sharing. Communication Hubs are so important.

[-] 3 points by Odin (583) 12 years ago

Yep...it all goes to show that you can teach old dogs new tricks. I feel honored to be amongst all the courageous people here. Now...I have to prepare myself to do some battle with the trolls. Where's my Viking shield?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

I like the attitude.

[-] 3 points by Odin (583) 12 years ago

Not sure who said this but here it is," Attitude is the difference between ordeal, and adventure." for the most part...that's true.

I have lived that frame of mind when I was running a six spindle New Brittan screw machine pumping out 1000+ spacer rings an hour. I learned how to challenge myself to the process running 12 to 16 hour shifts. I am sure many have done this but just have not realized that that was what they were doing.

Living a challenge instead of enduring Hell.

Frame of mind is a powerful thing.

This is exactly why millions across the globe remain asleep, and refuse to wake up. It's like in the Matrix movie, when we each have to decide for ourselves whether to take the blue pill or the red pill. It is an amazingly difficult challenge to begin to accept the fact that we have all been lied to by our “leaders”, and on such a magnificent level. Think about it. Someone who’s in their 20’s or 30’s or 40’s or 50’s or 60’s or older – how exactly does one go about coming to grips with the fact that you have been lied to about everything your entire life? Money – a complete and historically criminal illusion. Politics – absolutely corrupt and no longer relevant to humanity. Our banking institutions – criminal beyond belief. Our educational system - the elite's fodder for keeping humanity in line and indoctrinated as a guaranteed source of future wage slavery. It goes on and on and on. Do you reeeallly want to take the red pill?

That is exactly why so many people still refuse to acknowledge the unbelievable lies. Case in point (one of millions): The 2008 bailout (that Mr. Change Obama told us all to accept with a straight face as medicine we needed to take, while using our tax payer dollars to bail out the thieves that committed the same crime). It CAN’T BE TRUE, RIGHT? No, it’s too big of a lie to believe, so many refuse to even “go there”. It’s the same reason why people refuse to begin to try to understand money itself, perhaps the biggest lie ever perpetuated upon humanity, certainly the greatest Ponzi scheme of all time.

Ironically, we can look to the Nazi’s for appropriate wording on why billions of people can be duped by such a big lie(s). Cue Adolph Hitler and Joseph Goebbels:

Hitler actually created a propaganda technique called “The Big Lie”, the phrase of which he coined as can be cited in his 1925 book Mein Kampf to describe the use of a lie so “colossal” that no one would believe that someone “could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously.”

Joseph Goebbels (who was the Nazi’s Propaganda Minister – go figure) once said, “The bigger the lie, the more people will believe it.” And in more detail, he can be credited with the following quotation, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Gee, if that doesn’t describe EXACTLY the mass technique of lies we have been fed over our lifetime, I don’t know what does. The bankers are today's Nazi's, and they are using and abusing our beloved 99%ters police forces to implement their fascist state, just like Hitler used the Gestapo. And who are the repeaters of the lies they perpetuate - well of course that would be our spineless politicians and the mainstream media, owned by the same cowardly thugs that run the banks.

The Occupy Movement seeks to awaken people from the slavery and slumber that has imprisoned them their entire life. If others still want to remain asleep, so be it. That is, except for the wealthy criminals whose criminal and cowardly actions have destroyed so many lives. No, their behavior will no longer be tolerated by the gathering masses across the globe.

They abandoned alligance to this nation and adopted alligance to an international elite God knows how long ago. Remember Bush holding the hand of the Saudi Prince? Well it was going on generations before that.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Holding his hand ? There is a picture of him frenching the prince it's on my post about doubting the oil business is corrupt.

[-] 3 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

Really, I mean, is it real?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Take a look at the picture at the top of my post. They were celebrating oil futures speculation profit wet dreams.

Wow! They were even closer than I thought!

Go Occupy Boston!!! Good job!!!

[-] -1 points by TruthSlinger (3) 12 years ago

Congratulate them when the actually get good media attention instead of being mocked for their lack of "at-tent-tion." this high propaganda on the site is as infuriating as President Bush on the USS Abraham Lincoln with the Mission Accomplishrd banner. Tell someone at the OWS site to stop making this a propaganda war. We look silly high fiving ourselves over small ineffective actions. When the May Day kicks off and we are successful then we can cheer about it. Otherwise we look foolish to the general reader.

[-] 2 points by Odin (583) 12 years ago

For the most part, mainstream America does not visit this site. "Propaganda" from the other side is what helped get us to the sorry state of affairs we are now in. Although the action in Boston may indeed have been relatively insignificant to the big picture...it shows the rest of us that this movement is alive and kicking in other parts of the country....and that's good.

[-] 1 points by TruthSlinger (3) 12 years ago

Good point. The movement is alive but it is frustrating to see people saying great job when it could clearly be better attended, planned, etc.

[-] 0 points by Odin (583) 12 years ago

Yes, this summer we should have a much better idea as to our chance of success.

[-] 1 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

We look silly? Not half as silly as the President of the United States french kissing the Prince of Saudi Arabia. Sorry. Wasn't Bush the guy trying to get us to hate gays and the Moslums? This is it folks, we've entered the twilight zone.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

Quit your banking and go to a credit union. No service charges. Shame on banking people, as greedy as the police. Go Occupy.

" The only debt in need of servicing is their debt to us. " How true!!!!

[-] 1 points by LloydJHart (190) from Vineyard Haven, MA 12 years ago

Just more bullshit vanity protests that accomplish nothing. It's cuts to public transport right? So go block traffic in the transportation system that nearly bankrupted the Mass Turnpike Authority, the central artery project until they back off on the rate and service cuts. Snarl the traffic and the driving public will be forced to pay attention to public transportation.

The Occupy Wall St. Movement has no leverage to force change and until OWS gets some leverage nothing will change.

If OWS blocks traffic and shuts down business as usual, OWS will have leverage to force change.

The forgotten must block traffic to remind the forgetful of the needs of the forgotten.

Don't follow the leaders. Block traffic with your friends.
