Conspiracy theories are dangerous. They make people die. You just need a cursory analysis of the anti-vaxxers to see that. The measles came back, etc...

They soiled the reputation of OWS and made us look like a bunch of buffoons. Posts about nonsensical 9/11 conspiracy theories, chemtrails, alien overlords, etc...

It's a real shame the forum rules were not followed in that regard. Conspiracy theorists should have been banned from this site a long time ago.

Beware a - ''Snake In The Grass'' / anguis in herba !!! This poster is NOT now .. and NEVER has been a friend or well wisher of this forum - in any way, shape or form ... despite his chameleonic expressions of faux concern and his false declarations of care about OWS!! In short ... he is a wanker or some renown!

These are links to my recent replies to his b-s but the final one, has possible insights into what he may actually be a representative of .. self appointed or otherwise! Beware his weasel words and .. sophistry!!

So TrashyManque'/Thrasymaque, was that sufficiently Conspiratorial of me in reply to your horse-shit?!!!

Anything that you don't understand or notice or dots that you don't even know exist never mind connect, becomes dubbed ''conspiracy theory''in your conservative conceit as you seek to hide your ignorance or worse, as you seek to ignore, dismiss &/or cover-up the machinations of your 1% and 0.01% Overlords.

Wall Street is about money. So is accounting. Double-entry accounting is 700 years old. Curious that a supposedly Capitalist society does not make it mandatory in the schools. A socialist high school teacher told me that he objected to the idea on the grounds that the math would make Capitalism seem LOGICAL. People get emotional about their ideologies not helping other people be logical.

The economic wargame is a continuation of the military wargame by other means.

Is keeping the lower classes ignorant a conspiracy? Does education just require a good booklist? The Screwing of the Average Man (1974) by David Hapgood. Never heard an economist mention it.

I was not talking about a conspiracy of that type, but specifically about 9/11, chemtrails, anti-vaxxers, US created ISIS, reptilian shapeshifting overlords, and so on....

I agree classes on economy should be thought to youngsters. However, if the goal of the government is to keep people ignorant, I think they are failing miserably. Generation after generation, people are getting smarter because they have easier access to information. I am blown away by what the young generation knows. People now, poor and rich, know so much more than people did 100 years ago. And, so much more than they did in 1974. You can access internet for free in libraries, books are more easily available than before, etc...

You could be right, there might be a secret cabal trying to keep people ignorant. If so, I would say they are failing miserably.

But, it would be great to have evidence for you claim. Do you have studies that demonstrate what you are claiming?

It is 47 years after the Moon landing. How many millions of cars have Americans trashed since then? Have you ever heard economists talk about how much Americans have lost on the depreciation of automobiles since then? Think about it. Do you need a study to tell you that somehow experts do not talk about the obvious once you notice that the information has disappeared. Is our problem that we trust experts too much?

Businesses are allowed depreciation on their cars but not the average proles. My advice is to own your depreciating assets such as cars through your businesses. Arnold Schwarzenegger started his own business shortly after he had arrived in this land of opportunities and he had gone far. Shielding incomes from taxes by offsetting them with depreciation allowances while working for oneself reduces the tax burden. Over time, one becomes rich.

Another method that most wealthier people (i.e., predominantly whites [sorry, non-whites, on this the government IS skin-color-blind and fair! ;) ] but including many middle class people, too) take advantage of is to borrow money to spend while claiming the mortgage interest deduction to reduce income taxes. NO, it is NOT income - it is a loan. YES, that IS paid mortgage interest. While the asset borrowed against such as a house or rental building appreciates in price due to inflation, one gets a truly financial fun ride. It helps even more if the Fed creates more credit to borrow as that is absolutely required for this scheme to work. People who own appreciating assets which shield incomes from taxes become rich.

There is only one formula to becoming rich. Net worth is the accumulation of net positive incomes and assets over time. The parameters to be controlled include incomes, assets, depreciations, and time. Young people (Millennials seem to have wised up and are forgoing owning cars altogether) have the great advantage of time!

The label "expert" is really very similar to the label "shaman" in tribal societies. Did shamans cure people? Of course they did, just at slightly better than the placebo-autocure rate!

If one really digs into what makes one an "expert," eyes will be opened. There is "expert" in every endeavor, given a large enough sample space. Once the "expert" fails badly, we simply move on to the next "expert."

I absolutely believe in the sayings about expert predictions: predict often, revise often as new information arrives, if exactly what will happen is predicted, never attach a time, if exactly the time is attached, never exactly state what will happen. If reputation has been shot in spite of these precautions taken, close down the "expert" and start on another "expert." I no longer fail at predicting coin tosses anymore because for every coin toss (unlike Mx. Cheese who could win as a novice at trading cattle futures and winning multiple coin tosses in Iowa caucuses alike - I wonder why any casino should not be the proper haunt for such a miraculous expert!), I place a bet on head and another bet on tail - covering all eventualities. I am become expert - the purveyor of Fate!

I think everyone knows a car is an expenditure, not an investment. I don't see what the problem is?

"Is our problem that we trust experts too much?"

No, it's the complete opposite.

First, if you're not going to trust experts who are you going to trust? People who don't know what they are talking about? You either trust experts, or non experts. I choose experts.

The problem today is people thinking they can watch a few youtube videos on a subject and be an expert in that field. That's why we have so many conspiracy theories and nonsense which is really dangerous.

When people turn to Jenny Mccarthy for advice on vaccinations instead of qualified doctors, you know you have a deep societal problem. That's what conspiracy theories have done. They eroded trust in experts - doctors, economists, scientists, etc... and replaced it with trust in goofballs like Alex Jones and friends.

Sounds like a conspiracy theory.

I wish it was but, unfortunately, the fact that OWS was heavily soiled by being associated with conspiracy theorists is well documented. Many people left when this became apparent. The first mass exodus was caused by this (which is why this site had the rule against conspiracy theories). The second mass exodus was when the cops destroyed the camps in Zuccotti.

I suggest this read if you are interested in the phenomenon. http://links.org.au/node/2567

You were never able to engage in intellectual dialogues. Always were a kind of forum rat with one liners.

Tell that to Spencer Sunshine who researched the phenomenon in detail. Here's a short article he wrote.

To the uneducated perhaps. Or those with their heads in the sand.

Not sure why you think a known and documented phenomenon could be conspiracy theory, but whatever. Perhaps you don't understand the term. Funny since you were a mod here. I would have thought you knew why there was a rule #2 against conspiracy theories.
