WHY NOW:
Hunger striking prisoners are enduring retaliation on top of starvation! You can help stop their suffering now.
California Governor Jerry Brown is ignoring their demands! He must be forced to account for his inaction.
CA Department of Corrections is hiding their inhumane treatment from the press and public. They must be stopped and held up to the Five Core Demands.
Voter suppression comes in many forms.
If the intent of the GOP is to keep poor folk and minorities from voting -- because they tend to vote Democratic -- then the strategy is crystal clear.
Keep shrinking the middle class by cutting benefits and not allowing wages to keep up with inflation.
Expand the ranks of the poor by paying less than someone needs to put a roof over their heads, food on the table, and other basic necessities.
Increase the criminal penalties for crimes that are concentrated in poor communities.
Rig the justice system to make it easy to put them in prison
Ta Daaa! Those poor folk can't vote because they now have a prison record.

And there is a systemic effort to suppress the vote of poor people, who are mostly minorities, by prosecuting them, jailing them, and then banning them from voting because they are ex-cons.

TB, I agree with much of what you say. My point was this is not some dem voter suppression effort as you implied above.

That is precisely what voter suppression is intended to accomplish.
There's even those that have openly admitted it, all the way back to Paul Weyrich.

It'd be a hell of lot easier, cheaper and best for the country if we just revoked the voting rights of any idiot that voted for Obama in 2012. To charge them with treason would be another good option, though logistically it wouldn;t work.

Yep, they sure do know. Mr. B did call it, he knew they have nothing in common.
The cold war was more propaganda on ideology but was actually The Great Game Part Deux. The US had already bombed the hell out of Japan-unnecessarily- simply to prove who had the bigger dick to the Soviets. That right there should have been the end.
The US didn't break up the Soviet Union. Gorbachev was enacting reforms independently and dissolved the Soviet Union. So, the games go on. Now that the military industrial complex will have run it's course externally the focus is internal.
Wars of any sort, are ultimately about ideology.
We "enhanced" an indigenous, religious ideology, to fight a secular one.
In effect, melding church and state to create an ideology that did not exist at this level before.
Now the world is paying the price.

If you really want to learn about prison culture, go spend some time there. It's not what you envision. There are some people who believe that the sociopath who victimizes is a fine upstanding Democrat. They are worlds apart from reality.
